Example: New card, 100 photos taken, imported w/ name changes to LR catalog, all is well. Then, another 100 photos taken, and when import attempted, the prog "sees" 200 photos as new, not the actual 100 new photos on the card. Yes, the bottom is checked to avoid duplicates.
View 2 RepliesI would like to import a set photos into Lightroom as say "New York 2012" as the folder name. In that folder I would like to then have the pictures in sub folders by the relevant dates (i.e. December 1, December 2, etc...). However, it seems like everytime I try to do an import this way, I would Get my "New York 2012" folder but then a sub folder of 2012 first, and only then the subfolders with the December 1, Decemeber 2 etc pictures. Is there anyway to eliminate that "2012" subfolder that is created. I mean I already know is 2012 because the title of the main folder is New York 2012...I just want the subfolders to be the dates for the pics themselevs right away rather than first having 2012 folder to click on. Is there anyway to do this with the import feature?

But when I compare the catalog to the actual photos in the folder, there are 104 pics missing from the catalog. If I try to sync the catalog, it says 104 pics need to be imported, but the import process says there are no new photos.
I created a new catalog and tried to import the folder again, but its still missing the same 104 pictures.
How do I rename photos on import without loosing the previous file names and captions?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new MAC running 10.8 IOS and Lightroom 4.3. I also have a new Canon 5d Mark III. According to documentation Lightroom should recognize RAW files on the camera for download into Lightroom. But while I had success with only importing a single image amid multiple attempts, I cannot. Files are not recognized or cannot be converted to DMG for import. I took the card and put it into my old Rebel XT camera body, and it very slowly worked.
I have been using Lightroom with the old XT camera with no issues. Now I have a 1000 CF card and I can't get this to work from the camera. I have oredered a card reader which I have seen in other groups is supposed to solve this, but quite frankly: what the heck?
By accident I changed all my photos names. All my 30.000 pictures have the same name now.( with different numbers at the end.) How can I fixe this. I have an old back up catalog with the right names. Or is my only option to copy my back up from my external hard drive to my computer and synchronise it in lightroom..

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to LightRoom and am about to import more than 600 folders.These folders on the disc have names that relate to the content, and I was wondering if it is possible to add the folder names as keywords during import?
So if a photo is in /Weddings/New York/Chris and Charlie Hansen it would be tagged with 'Weddings, New York, Chris and Charlie Hansen' as keywords during import.
Naturally I would like this to happen dynamically so when import hundreds of folders in one go, the keywords are assigned as relevant. should I do it manually after import (which is of course possible, but quite a bit of work).
I've recently switched to Lightroom and was wondering whether it is possible to change the date format for the folders used for inport. Ideally I would like to use a structure such as this:
2012
|_ 01 - Jan
|_ 02 - Feb
As far as I can see that's not possible with the buit-in import presets organized by date. Is there any way to cusomize these formats to add 2012/01 - Jan etc?
For example, let's say I have a file on a hard drive labeled 2012. Inside that file there are three folders with photos and they are labeled Phoenix, Seattle, Portland. Is there a way to Import these folders at one time and keep the names, or will they all come into Lightroom only as 2012?
View 9 Replies View RelatedUsing the publish feature, I published some files to a hard drive using a publish service. Some of the files I had renamed from the default camera name convention to my own name convention. Others I had not changed the name from the default. After working on the original files, I renamed the files that had not been renamed, and then I republished them. I was expecting the republished files to have their new name, but they did not - they had the old names. I've tried republishing several times. I deleted the republished version of the file and then republished and it still came back with the old file name.
What in blue blazes is going on here? How can I get the names of the published files to match the names of the files in Lightroom?

I add five photos to a folder in Lightroom 4.3. The photos are in the specified folder in Windows. Import shows the five photos as imported but greyed out and semi-highlighted. Library does not show these five photos. What can I do?

I never use DNG, and am not aware of, and after a lot of searching, cannot find anywhere in the LR4.3 preferences at which I specified DNG conversion. In the Auto0Import dialog there is a File-handling tab that offers one choice: how to spell the dng suffix. The files I want to import will come in as CR2., and testing this with other folder destinations and with Canon's EOS Utility prove that the camera is "sending" CR2 files.
I accidentally included a file rename when I just imported a batch of several hundred pictures. I violated a rule that I teach my own Lightroom students, and that is to look carefully at the import panel choices before proceeding.
How can I correct this so that the files are named as they originally were? I know how to easily fix the filenames in Windows (using a tool called BulkRename, for example), but then I'd have to "find" each image one-by-one and correctly point to the renamed version. I tried selecting all the images and then using F2 to rename, but none of the templates allow deleting a portion of the filename.
P.S. Here is an example of what I mean:
ON CARD:
IMG_0001.NEF
...
IMG_0300.NEF
WHAT I RENAMED TO ACCIDENTALLY:
IMG_0001 {shot by John Doe}.NEF
...
IMG_0300 {shot by John Doe}.NEF
