View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to have Lightroom rename the source images according to my custom naming convention?
I just imported 278 photos and they are all correctly renamed within Lightroom however the source files retained the original Canon generated names. I want to rename them for backup/in case I ever decide to stop using Lightroom/etc.
I want to create a lightroom catalog of more recent photos but I want to use the keyword list from a prior catalog. Is it possible to "import" the prior list into the new catalog?

I take volleyball photos and use the burst often The files are numbered properly by the camera but PSE seems to get them mixed up. When I import and renamer them PSE thakes them in the order they are shown and they are then renumbered out of order causind many shots to be out of order. I have never had this problem before. I have been using PSE 6 up thru 10 now and this is the first time I have had this happen. Last season I wasusing PSE9 and all my bursts sequences are in purfect order.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHave just installed Windows LR4 trial, told it to Import files from my photo collection in a folder + subfolders on a network attached storage (NAS) unit. Windows Explorer tells me that there are 10,308 files in 408 folders in the main folder, totalling 38.8gb but on scanning the folder prior to import LR4 tells me that there are only 9,612 photos.
My photo collection folder contains only photos and no other file types.
Why is there this discrepancy ? I've searched around to see whether there is some hidden filter that is excluding certain photo files but cannot find anything of that nature.
How do I rename photos on import without loosing the previous file names and captions?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a rename of several files at once, but I would like it to use a Custom Name WITHOUT a sequence on the first file. I should be able to select several files and the first file will get the custom name, the second file will get -2, then -3, and so on. If I select 30 files, the first file gets the custom name correctly, then the second file get -31, then -32, and so on. It is counting the number of files I have selected, and then renaming them based on that count!!
The way I have to do it now is to select the first file, do custom name, then select the rest of the files and do sequence.

I just renamed all my files using Lightroom (select all; rename files)
Unfortunately, this did not rename the correponding xmp files. Since this is irrevercible, I'm now in a tight spot. I'm stuck this thousands of files with "lost" xmp files
(Also, it is very annoying that the renaming changes the file creation dates! This pretty much destroys my backup routine..)
I recently had a number of old transparencies scanned at a local service bureau and delivered as jpegs on disc. The images import just fine into Lightroom from the disc, but when I try to rename them, I get a dialogue box telling me I can't rename them "...because they are missing or not writable." Thinking, perhaps, that Lightroom was somehow trying unsuccessfully to rename them on the source disc, I tried downloading them to my computer first, ejecting the disc, then importing them into Lightroom. Same result. What am I doing wrong? How do I rename these images?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI set up a template to rename my files, the template was set up to show the date, a job ident and the city and state where the photo was taken. Everything works except I can not get the job ident to show in the name. I made sure in the metadata that the indent was there in the work flow section. I have gone back redone the template.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI imported a batch of file with the file name ©garylittle....nef I need to remove the ©garylittle from the name for the whole batch. F2 doesn't seem to do the job for me. I had before used Bridge becuase it has a much much more well developed file name faciltiy that LR does not have.
I guess one of my questions is "can I use Bridge and have it recognize renaming in LR?"
BTW, there are hundreds of these files so you can see I cannot do each one seperatly and even if I did, the F2 doesn't work right.
If I select 5 files to rename it might rename 4 of them but not the 5th. If I try that one file by itself I get an error message saying it cannot do it. If I exit LR completely and try the file in Explorer I sometimes with still get the error message that dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe is using the file.
This is a real pain as I have over 400 video clips to tag and name and I have now spent two days on this issue.
I am using a Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit,x laptop with 16 GB RAM.
I need to rename a number of files to specific names which are not based on the current names. Simple to do outside of LR5 but I do not want to lose the related edit data which I believe to be the case if I do it outside of LR.
Assuming the name is stored in the metadata is there anyway to access that directly to perform the rename?
Last day i made a massive rename operation at all my DNG files with Bridge in order to reflect the capture date and hour in the filename. Then when i synchronize the Lightroom catalog all the develop adjustments was whipped-out.
There are any thing i can do to recover de adjustments?
Any way to batch rename a folder full of image files to reflect a specific column in an excel sheet? I have a client who I am shooting product photography for, but I need to rename these images to reflect the part number of each item. These are not in any sequential order.
Either using LR5, CS6 or Bridge.
How can I softproof prior to printing?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am interested in controlling motion/blur in the photograph, prior to Lightroom and Photoshop. Many photo subjects (e.g. leaves, cars, waves) are moving. I've been calculating the pixel size in a photo. This is not just the pixel information of the sensor. For example, with a certain lense zoom and focus distance, each pixel will represent a definable zone of the image. Then, there is the zone of the print, which corresponds to the original zone of the image. There are many variables to consider. Motion within and beyond each pixel affects the image.
I am interested in literature, documentation or people that will guide me in the understanding of the control of motion/blur in the taking of the photo. With this, my photos will be far better and, also, easier to edit.
Today, while browsing through my Lightroom catalog looking for some older images, I noticed that LR5 could not open any images (NEF, CR2, JPG, TIFF, etc.) from mid 2010 and prior! The error message only says: "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo. You will not be able to make adjustments to the photo." !!! The thumbnails are all blank!
I was very surprised as I haven't used any other image editting sw for the last I don't know how many years. I wonder, are there any ways to reclaim these images. I have some precious photos of my mother before she passed away and don't want to lose them an any cost.
It seems all these files are somehow corrupted. The only thing I can think of is when I switched over to LR5 and the image catalog was updated, something in the process went wrong, though can't be 100% sure. I did try to open the files in a separate viewer (non adobe) but that also failed. I'm using a Macbook Pro with the latest OSX (Mavericks). The images are on an external encrypted drive. From 2010 onward, there are no issues and everything is available.
I can no longer import .nef files via the Photo Downloader. It is only importing .jpg which I rarely shoot.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using lightroom 4 and 5 on a Mac. Although preview of photos to be imported is shown I only get the message that the import could not be carried out (1) and the option to save the data as a :txt file. This was with Lightroom 4. It started first with being unabel to import directly from the camera, then I swithched to inserting the SD card directly into the laptop. This worked only after first downloading to the desktop. Later this didn't work either. I thought the program had become defect. Preview still worked and export is fine. I therefore updated to Lightroom 5 in the hope that this would solve the problem. However everything remains the same. Import still doesn't work with photos of any format. e.g. jpg or RAW.
