Lightroom :: Move Photo Corners To Use Crop Tool But White Hand Not Appearing
Nov 4, 2012
I'm new to LR4 and after I move the photo corners to use the crop tool, the white hand doesn't appear when I hover over the photo to then move it around....

1) Click and hold the rectangule tool until other options appear. Select Rounded Rectangle Tool (or, alternatively, just click this in the options area for the shape tool.
2) Select "make work path" in the options for this tool.
3) Try drawing a rectangle. If you want a wider arc, increase the radius in the options.
4) When you're happy with the radius, draw a rectangle from picture corner to corner. Press space when you are making the rectangle to move it about...
5) Go to Paths (a Tab that's default location is behind Layers on the Layers Palette). Ctrl-Left click the workpath.
6) Select, Inverse (Ctrl-Shift-I)
7) Make a new layer and fill with white (Edit>Fill, or Shift-Backspace).
8) Delete the work path.
However I am not sure how to now crop the photo out of the white surrounding area. Also how do I then apply a thin border to the edges of the photo like a stroke?

How do you change the characteristic of the cursor from Hand (Move Tool) back to just being a pointer? This condition only exists in the Develope Module when my cursor is placed over the top of the photo. When I move it off the photo it returns to a pointer. In the Library Module it is always a pointer like I like it to be.

I'm a furniture maker in Japan, and usually take photos of my work on the road next to my shop. I like the texture of the blacktop. Using Gimp, I'm working up the learning curve, and don't know how to remove the white lines and dirt at the upper corners, and extend the pavement to cover it. I'm hopeful that with Gimp, it can be accomplished.

when I select the crop tool, my image disappears during the entire crop process. I can only see the image in the preview pane. Why is this happening? I am using the most current version of Lightroom, and I am on a PC.

I have lightroom 4.2 and have just been going through my photos to pick some out for a project, and I've found that some of my files have corrupted while looking at them. They were perfect before, and had used them for a number of years without a problem.
It was not the transfer, as I was using these photos before from as far back as 2008 (ones before this have not corrupted yet)

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS3
OS: XP w/SP3
System: Dell vostro 200, 2.20GHz Duo, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD (mostly free), Intel G33/G31 Express 128.
ERROR:
No error message displayed
ISSUE:
When cropping a photo, the crop tool highlights the photo correctly, but when the crop is activated it resized the photo to about 1 pixel, no matter how large or small the selection crop was.
Actions took:
I fully installed all the updates, when unsuccessful, I repaired the installation, when that was unsuccessful, I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled Photoshop.

For some reason, the photo captions have started appearing in quite large font over the top left of the photo in Develop. How do I remove them? And why did they suddenly appear? (the answer to the first will probably answer the second).

I crop in Develop - the hand tool does not come back to let me to shift the image behind it - it stays as a pointer - if I go outside the crop it allows me to rotate - all I want to do is to shfit the crop to a different part of the image.

I'm trying to use the rect marquee tool to do a selection and then crop a photo but when I do nothing happens.
A couple of strange things have/are happening:
-At one point, while I was in transform selection I there was added space around the marquee, which became the new edge, as opposed to the marquee itself.
-The marquee is in the shape of a rounded rectangle.

I am using Illustrator CS4. When I move my selection tool to the white square on the bounding box for resizing, I am not getting the normal arrows that appear. When I click on the box and move the pointer the entire box and image move. This was working OK until about 5 hours ago.

I must have done this when I was trying to do some other keyboard shortcut and got the wrong one - and now I can't figure out how to get rid of it. But a few weeks ago, I did something and now the file name, date/time and image size appear in white text over the top-left of any photo I have in the Develop or Library screens:
So you can see "_MG_0955.CR2" and the other details in the clouds there. How to get rid of that? I can't find anything in any of the menus. I'm on Lightroom 4.3 for Mac OSX Mountain Lion.

In the old days, one could just use the crop tool and, while drawing crop lines, check the perspective box if you found that you needed to change the perspective. With CS6 if you start with the crop tool, and find you want to change the perspective, you have to change tools to the new perspective crop tool. In the process, you have to tell the newly opened dialog box that you don't want to crop, to get to the perspective tool, which now has reset to its defaults. You've lost your cropping and you have to start over.

I have a photo that I want to crop a little off the top and left side. However, the size of the photo must be 8 x 12. I set the aspect ratio to 8 x 12. Then on the photo, I move the line on the top and left to where I want it. The aspect ratio then goes back to original size. What am I missing?

I've been having this problem for quite a long time.
I've been trying to make a circular crop of my company logo (which is a circular logo).
However, whenever I crop I still get a rectangle with white corners.
Isn't there a way to make the corners transparent in Photoshop?
By the way, I'm using Photoshop CS3 extended.

I'm new to Lightroom - my workflow sees me crop a batch of photos one after the other. In LR every time I accept a crop and right click to move to the next photo I need to use the R key or choose the crop tool to do the same cropping to the next photo and the next and the next etc.
Is there a way to keep the crop tool active as you move through images?

I and my colleguaes had found that crop tool in Lightroom 5 works less logical than in previous versions. As we had found, if we use crop once setting preset aspect (for example 3:4) and than if we'll try to crop once again with another ascpect (for example 16:9) it will be croped in correct proportion but just within the frame of previous crop. So if we do 4 crops with different aspect one by one, we'll got a very tiny part of picture. In previous versions of Lightroom, every next crop takes the maximum area of the photo.

I have a large number of RAW photos from a Canon 7D which are destined for use in a Premiere Pro CS6 project.
I want to crop each of them to the preset 16x9 1920 x 1080.
What I would like to happen is that when I open the photo in the develop module and press the R button to open the Crop and Straighten tool, that the Aspect 16X9 crop overlay is selected be default, rather then the "original".
This would save me a lot of mouse clicks...
Or perhaps it's possible to assign a keyboard shortcut to that particular aspect so I can press R and then something else?

I'm cropping a few thousand pictures, and the crop tool is just sluggish.
Changing the crop or moving the picture behind the crop is jumpy, sometimes it needs seconds to change the display, which makes cropping pain to work.
Even after the picture is loaded and the lightroom rested some time, cropping is sluggish, which should not be, since the picture is fully in the memory and moving it around should be easy for the computer.
So how can I get the crop tool to move faster?
I'm using a Win7 Core i7-2600 with 16GB Ram, LR catalogue on Intel SSD, images on a fast SeaGate HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6800 grafics adapter, 30" (2560x1600) display. The files are NEF from a Nikon D800E, but the files from my D700 are slow, too.
