Lightroom :: Auto Tone Adjustment Function Not Work Properly?
Nov 25, 2012
when importing in Lightroom 4, the auto tone adjustment function does not work properly. Most images come out strongly overexposed and there is no way to stop it
There is an apply auto tone adjustments checkbox in preferences, but it does not work properly. After checking it, some photos still require to click on auto button on the basic panel.
Yes, I'm probably the only person on the planet that wants this, but I liked how the Auto Tone auto adjusted the Exposure slider (ONLY!) and left all the other sliders at zero in the Lightroom 4 beta.
Is there a way to write a preset that returns that behavior?
I imported tiff images into Lightroom 4 that were scanned by DigMyPics.com. The color of the images look good on the Windows 7 photo viewer. It looks horrible in Lightroom 4. My monitor is callibrated, the import develop setting is set to "none" , the box is unchecked "apply auto tone adjustments".I think that the windows viewer is showing the accurate color of the scan and LR is not. I don't think DigMyPics would send this awful color.
Having just loaded 10,000+ scanned negatives in LR 4.3, I am applying Auto Tone as a starting point for development settings. I have selected all images in Grid View, right-clicked to Develop Settings...Auto Tone. I can then go to the Develop page and Auto Tone is shown in every images History.the Auto button is still visible and I can click on it and get different [generally better] settings.
Is there a reason why Auto Tone applied to multiple photos produces different development settings from when it is applied individually to each photo?
is there any way to prevent lightroom 4 to apply auto settings to the image after it is returned from treatment in a plugin? Typically, I would launch SFX or other plugins from LR4 by specifying "submit a copy of the image with LR adjustments". When finished, the result image is returned to LR4 and auto settings are applied to it, as if it was freshly imported. This is very annoying. I have every time to reset all settings manually (exposure, whites, blacks, etc) one by one. Is there a way to treat plugin returns differently from importing images from a disk/card?
I recently upgraded to LR4 (on OS X 10.7.4), but this problem was also present in the previous version.I usually move photos around using the OS X Finder (as sometimes they are outside my Lightroom catalog). To make the updates available in Lightroom I've always used the "Synchronize Folder" option. It did work perfectly for some time, but lately that is not the case. For example, here's a folder called "Parents".I added some photos to it using Finder, then tried to sync it.
Normally Lightroom would find the new files and allow me to import them. What happens here is that Lightroom wants to remove all the photos that already exist in the folder (and Lightroom catalog) and then re-import all of them + the new ones.
First I tried to select "Import new photos -> Show import dialog" and import only the new photos. That didn't work, too. (Please see the image below; however in this sample I've chosen to import/remove all of them).
As you can see Lightroom re-imports the folder as a top-level folder, but it should be a subfolder to "Other". When I try to move it manually to "Other" I get an error message that tells me that I can't do that as a folder with the same name is already there.
I purchased and upgraded to Lightroom 4.0. Got things to work fine with some ACR updates for Photoshop CS3 that I'm currently using. Now have ACR 4.6 installed (the latest for my version of PS) as well as ACR 6.7.
I was able to make edits to the DNG RAW files in Lightroom 4.0 and then choose Edit in Photoshop (Command-E) and see those changes in a PSD file in Photoshop, where I could make further changes.
All of a sudden, I went to edit a photo in Photoshop and saw the original DNG file with no Lightroom edits. Some tinkering and update to Lightroom 4.1 but nothing can seem to make it show those Lightroom edits now when I go to Photoshop.

So why in the world would I update Lightroom in the middle of a job.?
Before I was able to do in and touch up shadowy areas using (K) adjustment brush, but now it doesn;t seem to work. The radial brush does a good job for a defined area but for SPOT touching I have always used the the adjustment brush?
Is there a setting or am I missing something or is this a bug?
I recently bought lightroom 4.1. In the first days, everything worked. But now, the adjustment brush doesn't work anymore! What is the reason and what can i do?
in print module main window for image control (not preview window in the left upper corner) is blank. what is the reason and how can be remedied? os Mac Lion 10.7.3 lightroom 4 ( the 3-rd version had the same problem)
I can start LR : but it gives immedidately the screen : unexpected error opening catalog, when I choose 'choose a different catalog' : he aks me to select a recent catalog to open, but this doesn't work en I neither can check the integrity of the catalog. Is there any possibility to do a repair of the program without losing my material from before ? When I search .ircat I can' t find any files.
While editing two very similar photos and using the CS6 auto-tone command, one of the photos photoshop was able to truly fix up while the other barely changed. Here is the example:
Photo A was very blue and dark; the auto-tone command magically fixed it up to have nice color variation in the rock and made it brighter. Here is the before/after:
On the other hand, photo B didn't work out the same way; the auto-tone command barely did anything, even though I thought both photos looked to have very similar problems (blue, dark, etc). Here are the links to the full original photo A and photo B in case they are useful...
how can I achieve on photo B the same effect that auto-tone did for photo A! Is there any way to find out what adjustments auto-tone made?
When i use an adjustment brush it will not work when I move the cursor to the center of the screen, in the rest of the image, and when I move or zoom the image it will work, so I can use the adjustment brush anywhere in the image, as long as it is not in the center of the screen.
A couple of days ago, The exact same thing started happening with LR3.6. I was hoping updating would do the trick but the exact same thing takes place. With an adjustment brush, when clicking on the image, it, the image, disappears as soon as I click on it. Same thing with gradient filter, the image disappears when I start dragging. Switching to the Library Module, my image is still there. For my image to reappear I have to select another image and go back to my initial image. Even then, I am still "holding" my brush even though my "Tools Strip" is not open. To get rid of the brush, I have to select it AND deselect it for it to disappear.Only then I can do further editing on that particular file that does not involve brush and/or gradient filter. Everything else seems to be working properly. This never happened until 3 days ago and I did not download any new program.

I just installed Lr4 with update 4.3. . First when i click a photo in develop mode it shows up very small. If I adjust the zoom the photo does erratic things. It gets big but with massive distortion then it will clear up but will have an effect like looking into a bunch of mirrers. Also i can not get the adjustment tools to work at all.
I purchased LR 5 last week but the start button in the presentation mudule doesn't work properly. I get a black screen and nothing happens. I have to press the esc button several times to return to LR.
In upgrading to LR4 I wish to keep my process 2010 photos as process 2010. There is no need to redo them because the update pretty much forces you to start again with most processed photos.
My problem is that I now find that LR4 greys out the detail and color sliders for Luminance and color noise reductionas if they are process 2003 photos. That is, I do not have access to the detail and color for the noise reduction section.
I can only assume this is a bug or that Adobe have changed the Noise reduction engine.
In camera raw, "apply auto tone adjustments" option in the preferences dialog is not same with the "auto" button on the basic panel, isn't it? Both of them control the same sliders, are there any relationship between them?
From X3 to X4, Corel added a "Block Size" control to the Local Tone Mapping adjustment. Is it the number of pixels over which the contrast adjustment is being applied? It seems that the smaller block sizes reduce the effect's harshness (when it could be harsh, e.g., with faces).
In LR5, Slideshow module, the arrow keys do not move to the next or previous image in the auto mode. They do work in the manual mode, but I need them to work in the auto mode as well.
I shot an event for a couple (a reception) and I didn't have my gray card so I set my Canon 5D mkII on auto white balance (shooting with a Canon 24-70 2.8 and a Sigma 85 1.4). As you'll see from the two example photos - the shots taken in the venue lobby looked fine, but the shots from inside the event itself were amazingly saturated. The room had a ton of very bright uplighting in purple and pink - the shots looked fine in the viewfinder, but once I brought them into LR4, there was a nearly complete purple/pink cast over everything. Setting the white balance in LR to auto, tungsten, flourescent - nothing worked. Adjusting the temp sliders - only slightly better. Reducing vibrance and saturation useful a little more, but I'm really having a hard time finding a fix!
When I paste an item in the assembly, the item is thrown off in space. It places it so far away that it is not even in the view window. I have to stop what I doing, do a find in window and then drag it close to where I need it. Then I can start constraining it.
Why does it not place the item at my coursor location like it used to?
I've got a problem with simulating a benchframe. The frame is attached to the car's body with 4 flat braces. I now want to attach the braces to the benchframe, but leave them to be able to rotate from each other.
I have fixed them to the body using a pin constraint, which works pretty straight forward but I'm not able to get this working on the side of the benchframe.
I have placed 4 pins, to allign the components and assigned manual contacts with "sliding/no separation" but now the whole construction doesnt move sideways in the X-direction and enormous stresses are developed because the benchframe is not deforming either. I have assigned every contact point and surfaces between the benchframe and the braces as "sliding/no separation".
