I have a single catalog in LR 4.1 (Win7 x64) with a total photo count of 186475, but the counts for individual folders only add up to 186280, and that's all I can display in Grid view for "All Photographs". Why the discrepancy, and which number is reliable (if either)? If I'm really not seeing all my photos, how can I find and display them?

Primary Problem: The image counts represented on folders in LR are not reflecting accurate counts until I run "Synchronize Folder" option. This occurs on a fairly frequent basis and in a number of cases I can reproduce the problem.
History: This missing of images in a folder has been plaguing me since the initial release of LR. During that time I opened a case and Adobe Technical Support who took over my desktop and were also able to reproduce the problem. They had no fix but said that it was a software bug and would be corrected in a subsequent release. I am now on LR 4.1 and it still is present.
Specific Examples:
1) I will go to a folder looking for an image that I know at one time was visible in LR but now it no longer is there. So, I search for it using LR on such attributes as filename or keywords without success. I then open up Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder and there it is. I can even right-click on the file name and open it up in Adobe Photoshop. I don't like going that route because I lose any adjustments I may have applied in LR. So my solution has been to right-click on the folder of the file that is missing the image(s) and select "synchronize folder". I am then presented with a dialog box that displays the number of missing (that LR calls"new") photos. Next, I click on the "Synchronize" button in which I am then presented with the import screen and shown the missing images. I then click on "Import" button and when the updating process is finished the folder Count is now correct and image shows up in the folder.
2) I can reproduce this behavior every time when I open an image in PS from LR, duplicate it, convert the duplicate to Black & White (Image-->Adjustments-->"Black & White"), apply an action to reduce the file size and change the color space, and then save it as a jpeg in a folder called "web" sitting under the original source folder. After saving it the count on the folder does not change, at least not until I go through the "Synchronize Folder" process. Ironically, if I now go to the original color image that the B&W was duplicated from and convert and save it as a jpeg to the same folder the folder updates immediately.
3) After importing a large number of images from a photo session into LR (via a card reader) I will delete the unwanted images, assign a subject specific naming convention to the remaining ones, attach keywords, and then use the export function to transfer them to their various subject related folders for long-term storage. Since missing images has been a long-standing problem for me, out of paranoia I will go to the folders to verify that the images are present For example, recently I exported 50 images to a folder and then went to it to verify all the images transferred correctly. I was unable to find five of the images. After running "Synchronize Folder" the folder amount was updated in the images appeared in the folder. All of files in this case were Canon RAW (CR2).
My goal is to have a quantity count of a specific dynamic blocks visibility state and for it to be updated when changes are made, without having to recreate the Table. I want the total amount to be where I have the Fields.
My test drawing is the perfect example, assuming I have all the items that I need in the drawing. I don't want to recreate the Table and re-link each Field to the appropriate cells of the table. Which no one wants to do. In this test drawing the objects in Blue will be used in the final production drawing.
I noticed if I add a new item or remove an item entirely I'll have to redo the Table and fields. Which defeats the time I'm trying to save.
shouldn't sheets marked as "exclude from count" not be counted?
I tried this in both 2013 and 2012 to see if maybe AutoDesk broke it, but it doesn't work in either one. This is easily reproducible for me, a file shouldn't be necessary. Just open up (or create) a multi sheet drawing. Go to edit sheet on one or two of them and check the "exclude form count" box. Now create a new iLogic rule and put the following line into it:

Is it possible in Lightroom to automatically append/prepend directory names in the file path into the file name itself? Example:
DirectoryA Sub-directoryB filename.jpg (original file name)
==>
DirectoryA Sub-directoryB DirectoryA_Sub-directoryB_filename.jpg (concatenated new file name)
If this is not natively possible within Lightroom, any plug-in that delivers this functionality?
I've got a catalog that work fine in LR4.4, but when I try to upgrade them to LR5 I get the error, "Lightroom couldn't update the format of its catalog file because the file appears to be damaged." The catalogs aren't damaged as they work perfectly in LR4.4. I urgently need to update them to a new mac with LR5.

Is there a setting to force the saved file back in line next to the file that was edited in Ps?
Whenever I tell LR to edit a photo in PS (CS6), I get back a TIFF file that is 10X larger than the orginal RAW file, and I ultimetly delete it to save space (after first converting it to a jpeg). Why doesn't PS do LR style non-destructrive editing, i.e., why not simply return a record of the edits made in a format compatible with LR?

In following Julieanne's Adobe TV topic here -> http:[url].....-creating-32bit-hdr-images-in-lr-41/ a problem arises when trying to save from Photoshop CS 6. According to Julieanne you hit ctrl-s so that PS saves the HDR image and then it should show up in Lightroom. What I have found is that hitting crtrl-s saves it as a PSD file which does automatically show up in Lightroom, however Lightroom but can't read it. If I do a save-as, and select TIFF as the extension Lightroom will not automatically see the TIFF file. I have to synchronize the folder in order to have Lightroom import it.
Why would Lightroom automatically see a PSD file (that is of no use) and not see the TIFF file?
Is there a setting in PS that will change the preferences to save as a TIFF instead of a PSD file?
Using Lightroom 4.2 and Photoshop CS6.
I use Canon 60D and normally shoot in mRAW. I am considering a move to DNG conversion so I did some test conversions and was amazed to find that, far from reducing the size of my mRAW files, it increased them by about 60%. I repeated the exercise with RAW files and found that this did reduce the size of the files by over 10%. In fact, i ended up with the crazy situation where the DNG files converted from mRAW were much bigger than those converted from RAW.

why the mRAW conversion is so inefficient?
I am still not entirely sure whether to adopt DNG but, if i do, it looks like I certainly won't be using mRAW as the source.
I accidentally included a file rename when I just imported a batch of several hundred pictures. I violated a rule that I teach my own Lightroom students, and that is to look carefully at the import panel choices before proceeding.
How can I correct this so that the files are named as they originally were? I know how to easily fix the filenames in Windows (using a tool called BulkRename, for example), but then I'd have to "find" each image one-by-one and correctly point to the renamed version. I tried selecting all the images and then using F2 to rename, but none of the templates allow deleting a portion of the filename.
P.S. Here is an example of what I mean:
ON CARD:
IMG_0001.NEF
...
IMG_0300.NEF
WHAT I RENAMED TO ACCIDENTALLY:
IMG_0001 {shot by John Doe}.NEF

I am running LR4 and CS6 on a PC, Windows 7 OS.
I would like to send a raw file (CR2 or .ORF) from LR using the "Edit In" mode to CS6 and have it open in ACR, or be able to open it in ACR.
I have tried a number of approaches, none have worked. Lightroom support told me I needed to uninstall LR and reinstall.
what DNG files are? I know when you import to LR it gives you the option to import as DNG,or Copy, Move or Add. It seems as if I import as DNG I can't use it on other editing programs.
View 12 Replies View RelatedIn LR I use a kind of automate to correct files roughly. When I edit a raw file in PS-CC with the ' in LR made' corrections, LR makes a new PSD file in LR. So far so good.
Saving this PSD file it appears to be much different in LR, becuase of the auto correction. The files was allready correctied / develloped before the edit in PS, now I have to reset alle setting back to 0.
I am running the latest version of Lightroom and have suddenly, just today, started getting this error. Nothing about my PC has changed. I can't export ANYTHING to anywhere on the C drive. I simply get the error message "the file could not be written". I am the only user on the PC and am also the administrator -

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to print a jpg to file in LR4. All the settings in the print module seem to be correct an I have done this before. I am print (to file) a 20X16 print at at 240 ppi sharpening = standard paper = glossy jpg quality = 100% . Printing to a Costco profile and intent = perceptual.
When I click print (to desktop) process bar comes up and very quickly progresses. The "print" appears on the desktop as an icon and not a thumbnail. It will not open. When I look at the file info: it is 15,763,189 bytes and has a dimension of 0 x 0 (?).I have tried this with several different files and get the same result.
When I click to edit a photo that I've re- imported, it says "photo missing" and "file can not be found". How can I re- access this photo and continue to edit?

Nothing has changed as the computer was shut down overnight. My HD has 98% (1.97 TB) space available and I have Mac OS X 10.8.5. I recently upgraded to LR5. Neither new files nor old files (on another HD) can be opened, although all files could be opened yesterday. What can I do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn LR4, I was able to create a gpx file on my iPhone while on a photowalk using the "Trails" application. When done the walk, I would email myself that tracklog and save it on my desktop. Using LR5, I can select my gpx file on the desktop, but it does not load. Nothing happens. In LR4, it would show my route on the maps screen and I could auto tag images. But not in LR5.
How can I get LR to read my track logs again so that I could auto tag my photographs.
I ensured that the camera and iPhone clock were both synchronized before the walk.
I am using OSX (all updates applied) and LR5.3.
I just recently upgraded lightroom at the same time that I switched harddrives. Basically, I installed LR 5 on the new harddrive. Then I opened my LR4 catalogue on LR5 and had it do the "update" to the catalogue. Everything seemed to be working properly. However, this is the first time I have imported a memory card and it is really having problems.
I imported and had the files put into Pictures>Client Sessions>Weddings (and then wrote in the subfolder name). It shows in my finder that that is where the photos are. However, in Lightroom it is like creating a whole new section. For some reason it isn't "linking" to my current file structure. See the 2014 Mclennan-Reeser file. It is under "wedding" on my finder.
See how it is is like its own separate thing on my Lightroom (even though if you scroll down you will SEE the wedding folder. I have even tried to drag and drop it into "wedding" on LR... but it says it already exists OF COURSE IT DOES! I then tried to right click on 2014 McLennan and say "show parent folder", but it just creates a NEW "Wedding" folder in LR.
When exporting from LR 4.4 (and 4.3) as a jpeg, "file could not be written" appears when saving to main hard drive. Exporting to a thumb drive or external drive of any kind works fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to edit an image in Photoshop from Lightroom 4 (CTRL+E), Photoshop CS6 launches immediately but with no image. In Lightroom 4, after about two minutes, the message box appears saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS6 could not be launched." When I click OK, the image promptly opens in Photoshop CS6 like normal. This wan an itermittent issue for me after the LR4.1 release. I get the error every time.

However, the full size image looks fine. On the reverse, normal jpgs sent to me or right out of the camera look fine but the full size image in the same standard windows viewer look dark and very contrasty.

I notice when i tried to import the file from the SD Card to Lightroom 4.4, it didn't reconized the files and it said it need an update. I had updated my lightroom and downloaded raw drive from sony. Still nothing work. I also try to convert the ARW to DNG file and still didn't work. I don't know what to do. I am running Widows 7 Home Edition.
