I just bought a Sony Nex 5n and I was shooting in raw format. I notice when i tried to import the file from the SD Card to Lightroom 4.4, it didn't reconized the files and it said it need an update. I had updated my lightroom and downloaded raw drive from sony. Still nothing work. I also try to convert the ARW to DNG file and still didn't work. I don't know what to do. I am running Widows 7 Home Edition.
what DNG files are? I know when you import to LR it gives you the option to import as DNG,or Copy, Move or Add. It seems as if I import as DNG I can't use it on other editing programs.
I use and love Lightroom. Currently on 4.x Here is the problem. Suddenly many of my images are being corrupted. They seem to acquire a colorful striped pattern. Sometimes it happens on import, sometimes not for a few weeks. You will be looking at the filmstrip, and actually watch them be redrawn with the error. When I import the same raw file into another program (FastStone), I am able to see it properly and export it to jpeg. With LR, the export maintains the corruption. I have tried it on two different hard drives with the same results. I don't think its a hardware issue. I am attaching two sample images. One processed with FastStone, the other with LR. I had to use paint application to shrink them to an uploadable size, but they do represent the problem correctly.
Lightroom3 will not import the CR2 RAW files from my Canon Powershot S50. It does not have any problem with the CR2 files from my EOS 50D however. i have downloaded the latest update of Adobe Camera Raw 8.3 and still it will not import
I'm used to easily importing RAW, Tiff and jpeg into LR3. For a reason unknown to me, LR3 now rejects all import requests. Recent RAW files are shot on 5d mk3 into Capture One Pro 6.4.3-64bit. I thought it would be the camera so I tried to import historic files from jobs that I had already proccessed in LR3 but still no luck.
I'm trying to import all images from a file that a have on my hard drive and it contains about 6033 photos but when I'm trying to import it into Lightroom it will only show about 5229 photos to import, why is this happening?
I am using OS/X 10.8.5 I can see under the Catalog there is a folder for Lightroom Settings, and the Filename Templates folder exists.
I also tried clicking on the various template names, which gave me the option to install them. They then disappeared from the folder. But were not available.
I had previously also tried Resetting Filename Template under Catalog Preferences.
I installed LR on my computer, win 7, and upgrade version 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 (with all updates) but i can't import pictures, they will be on the libary but i can't see them. if i use only LR 1, no problem, it starts when i installed LR 2!? but if i import a picture this will be shown in the libary but it is not dispayed( can't see the picture, only the place where this must be seen) I did use all the updates, but still no progress? how to handle so i can work my LR 3.6 ( before I upgrade to 4.0)
I was trying to import the new Photoshop CS6 file format .psb in LR4.1. It does not work. Is that correct?
If yes, is there an other way to import files (over 25'000 pixel length) in LR4.1 or is there a possibility to use the old .psd format (wich I used under CS4) or other Photoshop file format? It looks that the .psd file format (CS6) has a limitation.
I have hundreds of JVC Everio video files that are natively created as MOD files on the camcorder. However, I can copy them to my Windows 7 system and simply rename them as *.MPG files and they play fine in Windows Media Player. I noticed that Adobe Premier Elements can import MOD files, but I get a "There is a problem with the video file..." error message in LR4.2 when I try to import the renamed MPG file. The Import function won't display MOD files as a valid file format, but the MPG files do appear in the Import browser list.
Below are the specs from the MOD file renamed to MPG.

I am working on bringing files into Lightroom 4, most DNG files from a Canon 5D and DNG and TIFF files from a Nikon scanner. The problem I'm having is that after importing the files into the Folder in which they will all be for the catalogue, they are significantly smaller. For instance, a DNG file from a 6x9 film scan is 600MB in the original folder, then is 420MB in the new folder after being renamed and imported into Lightoom. Similarly, a 20MB DNG file from my Canon 5D is 8MB after importantion. Also, the backup of the original that is made upon importantion, remains at its larger size on my external drive. I do not believe that I have anything set in Lightroom to do this, the only setting I've touched in the import process are renaming the file, placing a backup, and adding tags. I am not doing anything in the development dialogue box. Is there a reason that these files are so much smaller? I'm worried because 30% decline in the case of scans is a lot of data, as if the 70% decline in my Canon 5D file.
for some reason I get the message 'preview unavailable for this file' for about 50% of the photos in the import module of LR4.1. This only seems to be an issue upon import since the files still import as usual and I do not encounter any further issues after the import with developing etc. It's not a huge problem for me but still quite anoying as I am not able to review my photos before actually importing them.
Here are some further details:I am shooting with a Nikon D300s, all photos are in NEF-format, I use USB-mini USB connection between computer and camera. The problem occurs on both my Macbook Pro Retina 2012 and my iMac Mid-2010. The problem only occurs with LR4, I didn't have any problems with LR3.
For example, let's say I have a file on a hard drive labeled 2012. Inside that file there are three folders with photos and they are labeled Phoenix, Seattle, Portland. Is there a way to Import these folders at one time and keep the names, or will they all come into Lightroom only as 2012?
After import to LR 5, file size goes from 20-30mb to 40-50mb. Updates are current, no preferences have been changed. This issue happens with two difference cameras.
Suddenly, I am getting the above message, when trying to import RAW files in LR 4.3. I tried with two different cards and two different Readers.
When I click on Import, I get a blank thumbnail of all the photos with the message in it. I was able to see the photos in Finder on the Compact Flash card with no problem.
I have LR and camera up to date for a while, so nothing different has been done that I know of.
Way to import the raw file when I shoot jpeg and raw at the same time.. and then develop those files ? Also did there used to be a setting during development for "lights" ?
I shot using an eye-fi card. The card autmatically generates a xmp file with geodata in it. LR auto imports these images and adds lens correction and a copy right tag.
What I can't do is automatically is get LR to read the xmp file and include this in the catalogue. I am having to right click images and select read metadata from file.
For over 15 years I've been using a cataloging system written in VB6, as the writing is well and truly on the wall for VB6 I'm considereing moving to LR, but it's not clear if I can import all the existing data.
The data is not embedded in the images for the most part because we are talking old 5x4 neg scans etc.
I have access to the source code of my existing program and can therefore export the database fields in any format, CSV being the most obvious choice but I suppose I can write the code to export to anything.
So my question is, is there a mechanism to import such data, either when the photos are originally imported or assign the data to them post-import. And please don't suggest cut & paste, there's 20,000 pics
I use a canon 5D Mk3 and a Sony nex 5. On both cameras, at import time, I am likely to have both movie files and still RAW files. I do not import my movie files into Lightroom, I import them into Final Cut Pro X, but I cannot find where in Lightroom I filter the import. At the moment I am having to painstakingly go through the import thumbnails and untick the movie files, which is tedious and prone to error (I missed importing an important RAW file the other day by unticking it by mistake. Lightroom is so professional and quick to use with its presets and customization.
I have M2TS video files stored on my computer. When I import a file into LR4, I have no sound. I also tried importing files directly from my Sony camcorder, but still have no sound.
