Lightroom :: File Sizes Smaller After Import?
Apr 22, 2012I am working on bringing files into Lightroom 4, most DNG files from a Canon 5D and DNG and TIFF files from a Nikon scanner. The problem I'm having is that after importing the files into the Folder in which they will all be for the catalogue, they are significantly smaller. For instance, a DNG file from a 6x9 film scan is 600MB in the original folder, then is 420MB in the new folder after being renamed and imported into Lightoom. Similarly, a 20MB DNG file from my Canon 5D is 8MB after importantion. Also, the backup of the original that is made upon importantion, remains at its larger size on my external drive. I do not believe that I have anything set in Lightroom to do this, the only setting I've touched in the import process are renaming the file, placing a backup, and adding tags. I am not doing anything in the development dialogue box. Is there a reason that these files are so much smaller? I'm worried because 30% decline in the case of scans is a lot of data, as if the 70% decline in my Canon 5D file.

Mar 29, 2013what DNG files are? I know when you import to LR it gives you the option to import as DNG,or Copy, Move or Add. It seems as if I import as DNG I can't use it on other editing programs.

Photoshop :: CMYK File Size Smaller Then RGB... Why?
Mar 4, 2009I have been receiving some very simple files from a colleague and her file sizes are a 10th of what mine are. The confusing part is she is sending them in CMYK and I convert them to RGB.
Theoretically they should be smaller. Dimensions and resolution are exactly the same and both are 8 bits per channel and no color profiles. She might be using an older version of Photoshop than me (currently CS3). Anyone have any ideas?

May 23, 2003I'm trying to make this picture's file size smaller. It's the startup page for my website that I'm making. The file size is somewhere around 130 kb, and it takes a while for it to load up for a website. Yes I've used Imageready, and that doesn't help a whole lot. I just want it to load up quicker, without losing a lot of quality. The website is for the Air Force, I'm joining as a pilot and am making a site documenting my growing up in an air force family, and my going in the Air Force myself.

Oct 30, 2013I use and love Lightroom. Currently on 4.x Here is the problem. Suddenly many of my images are being corrupted. They seem to acquire a colorful striped pattern. Sometimes it happens on import, sometimes not for a few weeks. You will be looking at the filmstrip, and actually watch them be redrawn with the error. When I import the same raw file into another program (FastStone), I am able to see it properly and export it to jpeg. With LR, the export maintains the corruption. I have tried it on two different hard drives with the same results. I don't think its a hardware issue. I am attaching two sample images. One processed with FastStone, the other with LR. I had to use paint application to shrink them to an uploadable size, but they do represent the problem correctly.

I'm used to easily importing RAW, Tiff and jpeg into LR3. For a reason unknown to me, LR3 now rejects all import requests.
Recent RAW files are shot on 5d mk3 into Capture One Pro 6.4.3-64bit. I thought it would be the camera so I tried to import historic files from jobs that I had already proccessed in LR3 but still no luck.
Tried importing regular tiffs, no joy either.

Sep 21, 2013Photoshoot last week and I shot tethered. I had the client go through some images at the shoot on my MBP.
When I got back to the office i exported the shoot as a catalogue and reimported as a catalogue into LR5 .
I noticed today that the files in LR still say CR2.
I am thinking images were never converted to DNG because they were never imported through the IMPORT module...
So perhaps that ios why I am having such a time seeing stuff I edit in photoshop that disappear when saving in PS....

Nov 12, 2013I am using OS/X 10.8.5 I can see under the Catalog there is a folder for Lightroom Settings, and the Filename Templates folder exists.
I also tried clicking on the various template names, which gave me the option to install them. They then disappeared from the folder. But were not available.
I had previously also tried Resetting Filename Template under Catalog Preferences.
I really need this module to work.

Lightroom :: 4.2 Won't Import JVC Everio MOD (MPG) Video File
Oct 27, 2012I have hundreds of JVC Everio video files that are natively created as MOD files on the camcorder. However, I can copy them to my Windows 7 system and simply rename them as *.MPG files and they play fine in Windows Media Player. I noticed that Adobe Premier Elements can import MOD files, but I get a "There is a problem with the video file..." error message in LR4.2 when I try to import the renamed MPG file. The Import function won't display MOD files as a valid file format, but the MPG files do appear in the Import browser list.
Below are the specs from the MOD file renamed to MPG.
