View 3 RepliesI have +25k images organized in a folder structure today. This structure has served me well for many years, but I realize that it has it limits.Testing Lightroom made me decide to go for a new approach, but having some 'nightmares' of how to include my images from my old folder structure (25k images....)
I know I can keep my folders intact in Lightroom, and I have done this. But I also want to have some kind of description on EXIF/IPTC. Today this description is in the folder name, and only there.
How can I automatic include the images current folder name into the image file IPTC Caption or any other EXIF/IPTC field? I want to do this for all images and folders in one batch, and not select each folder manually.
The old images will be more in line with images I import from now on, and they will at least be universal searchable based on the old folder name.
Is there any software that's ready to go for this? Could it be a task for Automator?
I have access to both PC and MAC for this kind of batch operation.
Is there a way to export images with borders (like the slideshow layout) and metadata caption (iptc/exif). I'm using a plug-in Mogrify now, but this way I have to export every photo twice (first to create borders, then to add the metadata). photo below is exported with the Mogrify plug-in.
It would be awsome to export photos like the gallery layout since most lightboxes have only 1 line of caption and no design/edit options. This would save heaps of time.
Currently I am processing analoge pictures in Lightroom 3.6.
When adding IPTC data to a slide show, I am able to add almost every item, except "Date created". That does not apear in the ABC list.
Is there a way to print exif and iptc data using paintshop pro X4 ?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a batch of 5000 pictures (jpg). I need to add the information that I have in an .xls file (Excel), from a column with the description of each picture. Each description is different from the others, so I would have to assign the code number of the file jpg (first colum of the excel) to the correspondance info that exists in the column of the description/caption into the IPTC field.
I have tried several ways, applications that I have found through Google, but I have no way to do it. It seems that the origin of the problem is the xls file or the txt file that I have had to created to try to do the importation. In any case messages of errors like "the file does not exists", etc etc. I don`t know what to do it. It's very important and urgent for my job.
* I work with MAC OX S 10.7.5, Adobe Photoshop CS5.1
* I have tried applications like: DIY Metadata, VRA Export-Import Metadata and another ones... which names I don't remember now.
How can i see all my photo properties taken with a the panasonic FZ150 into the exif in Lr4.
In the free software which came with my camera (photofunstudio) i see which recording mode is used (f.i. program AE of marco). But in LR4 i can't see that.
Is there a way to see it, perhaps a plugin.
I have the descriptive text for several hundred images in an excel sheet. There are five separate fields (excel columns) - Image filename; Title (Headline); Description (Caption); Keywords; Location how I can import this information into a lightroom catalog and match them up with the relevant images ? I can export the excel informaton into an xml file but would need to know the relevant field names.

I want to use the Date Created feature. Fortunately, I have the exact calendar day of most of my photos. However, in a few cases, I know only the year and the month, and not the specific day.
I have discovered the Date Created feature doesn't support entering only a year and a month (unless I'm missing something.) I thought it would support, for example: 19860100, for an unknown day in January 1986.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to view exif info of each photo on the LR 4.2 import screen. I'd like to view Exif data before making the decision to import the capture but can't figure out how to do this. Ideally it would appear as a 'tooltip' when hovering over the image in gridview, or, when looking at a single image it using the "I" key should display image info like it does in other modules of LR4. Are there any plugins that could do that?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince today I'm using "Lightroom 5.3 RC for Windows". When I export to jpg the Exif meta data contain a Exif tag "Software", the value is "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.0 (Windows)". Why doesn't this tag show the version number "5.3" (or "5.3 RC")?This behaviour has been at all prior Lightroom versions I know.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI like to organize my photos by date. When I import my photos through lightroom 5, I specify in the metadata to organize by date, (in which it is listed correctly) and choose the destination folder. However, once I perform the import, it creates a completely separate folder under the year "2012". How can I fix this problem to import under the correct file dates?

View 7 Replies View Relatedhow to change one of the entries in TranslatedStrings.txt in order to provide a different/custom destination folder naming scheme for importing.
This definitely worked in some previous versions (a while since I tried it) but in 4.1 it doesn't seem to work -- there is no such file in /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.app/Contents or in the en.lproj subfolder (which seems to be where the non English TranslatedStrings.txt files live).
I won't go into why I need to do this, suffice to say if I can't do it, I'm going to face a tedious process of importing a load of stuff year by year and choosing the destination base folder manually for each year. Which is do-able, it's just a big pain.
I'm using Lightroom 5.2RC. My camera is Sony RX100M2.
Everything was working fine until a few hours ago. Then I noticed that a few shots I took late this evening were being imported into yesterday's folder. So I carefully checked what was going on, and noticed that LR import was seeing an incorrect date and time for the file! For example, below you see the date/time it sees for the first image -- that date/time is wrong.
: LR sees the wrong date/time whether I try to import from camera, from SD card in card slot, or WiFi.
Windows Explorer reads the correct date/time of the files, as does the camera, Playmemories etc. Only Lightroom is seeing a wrong date/time. I even uninstalled LR and reinstalled it, and it's still seeing the wrong date/time in import. I have also formatted my card and took new photos, but same behavior.
I have a file on my computer that contains photos from two cameras that took photos over the same three week timespan. I have sorted them by date and time. When I import the file the photos from one camera show first followed by the photos from the other camera. How can I import or resort in LR3 to have photos in date/time sequence?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using a trial version of LR 4 and would like to know if LR can use the format of "MM-DD-YY" for the subfolder of the destination folder. My many years of files are organized by the "YYYY" top folder then "MM-YY" then by date of shooting, "MM-DD-YY" within the corresponding month. Is this possible or must I continue to rename the folders after import?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem where LR4 on import seems to rewrite the xmp-files, and in that process data is lost, notably GPS-data, is lost.
My workflow:
Create xmp-file with Exiftool from CR2-files (sets copyright etc)
Geocode with Geosetter
Color labels with Photo Mechanic
Import to LR4
After import geo data is gone for around 30% of the files. It seems like files that have received a color label by PM is not affected, and many files without color label are correctly imported.I never loose any data before importing to LR4.
I use a Canon 7D, Exiftool and Geosetter are updated to latest versions, LR version is 4.3. I couldn't find how to attach files, but how the xmp looks before and after LR4 import, I could copy-paste the code in an answer.
I am new to Lightroom 5. I imported some photos, but never named a Catalog. I would love to change the name of that catalog and am wondering how to do that? Also the date for the import is July 5, 2013 rather than January 15, 2014 the day I imported them. How do I change the date? I almost want to delete the photos and start over. Can I do that?
View 7 Replies View RelatedSometimes (atleast 2 times) when I take photos late, butween about 10-11 PM they are created in a folder with the date for the following day.
Last time this happend was yesterday (2013-06-05). Almost all photos was automaticlly in folder for 2013-06-05 for the import but 10 photos shot between 10.07pm - 10.43pm was put in the folder 2013-06-06.
Im using Lightroom 4.4 Swedish version.
Is it at date/time-proporties in Lightroom which is wrong (not Swedish-time) or what can it be?
I use lightroom 4.1 on win 7 64bit. I i have a NEF file with all the details, iso, shutter speed, etc. I click on file and tell it to edit with photoshop cs6.
I edit my file, make adjustments, etc then I save for web and put i in subfolder where the NEF file was originally. Now I go back to lightroom and tell to sync the folder where i saved the file.
The problem is the JPEG file has all the exif data wiped out.
I routinely always edit my images in photoshop as i find it much more powerful than using lightroom but what bums me out is when saving it as a jpeg it stripped of all data, and I'm wondering is this caused my lightroom or photoshop.
So to inspect further i open file in windows explorer do file properties and theres no info on it. yet the NEF file has everything on it. So maybe photoshop is somehow removing all this.
All of a sudden I notice that when I open a file in Autocad Architecture, it shows the file creation date and not the actual last save date. Only thing I can think of is I reinstalled 3dsmax Design and I wonder if that changed something. I attached a screenshot for reference.

I'm finding that Lightroom changes the file creation date when embedding metadata. I notice that this behaviour differs from Bridge, which manages to write metadata changes to the file without affecting the creation date, only touching the modified date.
I've read in other threads that it doesn't matter anyway because moving files between disks will write a new file and therefore a new creation date, but while this may be true in some systems (I don’t know) this is certainly not the case with Mac OS. For example, I have files going back to at least 1998 which have been moved from disk to disk to disk yet still retain their original creation date. Which is as it should be. For many of my older images there seems to be no recognisable embedded capture date anyway, so the file creation date is the only time stamp.
It seems perfectly logical that the modified date of a file should be updated to reflect that the file has been modified (e.g. though adding metadata), but it seems equally logical that the file creation date should be retained as the original date that file was created. Changing them both to the same date seems to be a needless loss of information.
Some might argue that the process of adding metadata to a file creates a new file, therefore the creation date needs to be updated to reflect that. But I would say that the creation date should be what a normal user would understand as the creation date. We don't expect the creation date to be changed simply because a file is rewritten to disk (for instance when defragging), however technically accurate it might be to say that it is a newly created file. And the difference in behaviour between Bridge and Lightroom shows that there is some confusion about this.
