Lightroom :: Stack Disappears After Delete - Reappears After Restart?
Oct 17, 2012
After deleting the top thumbnail in a stack, the entire stack disappears. The remaining stack-thumbnails reappear after Lightroom is restarted. I use Win7 and Lightroom 4.2. Donno if this issued occurred with v4.1. This issue does not occur with all stacks.
getting a weird problem. at first when I had 2 image planes (front and side) every time I saved my scene and restarted, they would both disappear from perspective view. but they were still showing in ortho view. I'd have to delete the image plane and make it again. after adding a back camera with its own image, saving and restarting: it started to have all of them show in perspective, but now front and side dont show in ortho.
edit:: the first issue happens in 2011. the second in 2012. back cam probably has nothing to do with it.
I've been experimenting with LR4, but can't figure out how to reset all keywords and restart from scratch.
I've deleted every catalog I can find (they were all under a Lightroom folder under Pictures).
I start Lightroom and create a new catalog. I exit, delete the default catalog and restart.
I import a folder with about 6 images, each with a few non-hierarchical keywords.
Lightroom gets inventive and puts them into hierarchies that it remembered from earlier in the day when I had imported keywords from Bridge and then tried to fix the mess Lightroom made of them. Where is it getting these old hierarchies from??
I make heavy use of image stacks. After some time I want to clean up my catalog. Therefore I'm looking for a "reduce stack" feature like in "Photoshop Elements Organizer" that keeps the top image only and deletes all other images of the stack.
I use Aperture but am taking a look at Lightroom. In Aperture, if I have a stack of photos in a project and drag it to an album (similar to a Lightroom collection), the entire stack goes into the album. But in Lightroom, if I drag a stack to a collection, only the top photo goes into the collection. If I expand the stack, select all the photos, and drag them to the collection, then of course they are all in the collection but they become unstacked.
Is there a way to drag a stack to a collection in Lightroom, have the entire stack go into the collection, and have the photos remain stacked? I have tried modifier keys such as Option and Command while dragging the stack but that seems to ahve no effect.
Is there a reason, when working in the Library module, that I would not be able to stack? Have images in a Smart Collection that is built based on keywords and lack of "rejection". When I highlight a group of images and attempt to Stack, the all of the options are greyed out.
Not at all new to LR, have been using since ver 1.0
Using LR 5.3OS X 10.9.1 (Mavericks)Mac Pro- Dual 6-core Xenons, 64GB RAM, TONS of disk space
Is it simply a way to condense screen real estate to manage a lot of images -- especially ones shot for HDR, for example, which are varying exposures of the same view? I would love to see an analysis of the meta data to create smart stacks suitable for panoramic merging or HDR depending on how they were shot. Then the next logical request would be for a Process the Stacks in Photoshop, thus automating this process.
I have a large catalog of images I have touched up to prepare for use.
Today when I loaded the catalog, every image has a 'reset' at the top of this History stack. This is undoing all my modifications, but all the operations I did perform are still listed under that.I want to remove the 'reset' from the top of History of every image in this catalog so I get back to what I had already done.
A long time ago, when I was using Photoshop Elements I found a plug-in that made it possible to work with stacks as a unit.
If I labeled the top image in the stack that label was applied to all the images in the stack; then when I sorted the images, the stack remained in tact; instead of just the top image, with the label showing up. I could also label the top image in a stack with flaga and, for example quickly delete all the image with an "X". Otherwise is seems the only option is to open each stack, by Ctrl-clicking the number in the upper left corner, that opens the stack; with all the images selected, then click the star labels I want to apply to all the images in the stack.
I'm using Lightroom 5, and was wondering if there's a quick way to display all items in a stack in Survey View.Expanding the stackSelecting all items in the stack.Switching to survey view.I was wondering if there was a quick way to click on the stack and get it to open in Survey View.
Failing that I was wondering if I could automatically select all the items in a stack.
I have 28 photographs taken sequentialy but not at same intervals; they are part of a collection. I proceed to select all of them and choose "Stacking-Auto stack by capture time..." from the context menu and choose time between stacks as 0:01:00 (one minute)
However I find the capture time of photos in any one stack exceed 1 minute!! For instance, these are the capture times of photos in a single stack:
When i try to delete a file from LR using the delete from disk option the file does not so up in my trash. I have deleted 200 bad files and the never showed up in the trash. I have been trying to clear up some disk space but the available disk still shows the same so I know they haven't been deleted. Am using Lion on a MacBook Pro 15 and am fully updated. Am I doing something wrong?
Until yesterday I was able to delete pictures, using the contextual menu or the delete key. I got the message asking me if I wanted to delete them from disk or from the catalog.
But now, that popup message doesn't appear. The picture is not removed, just nothing happens.
I checked the logs and this is the error message:
performCommandDesc could not perform command ag.library.expandAllStacks (Command was disabled.).
I uninstalled LR moving it to the trash. Then I deleted the com.adobe.Lightroom4.plist and I also removed the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom.
I rebbooted the machine and installed it again. But the issue is still there, with the same error message.
I verified the disk and checked file permissions.
I also tried to use another catalog from a backup.
Nothing, same error.
One anusual thing that I did before the error was to install the "HDRsoft Merge to 32-bit HDR Plug-in for Lightroom - Version 1.0"
I removed it but the error was still there. After the re-install I didnd't install that plug-in again so if it was the problem, it shouldn't be after the clean installation that I did again.

It would appear that my licensed copy of Lightroom 5, which I downloaded online, has disappeared with the install of CC. In my dock I have a question mark on the Lightroom icon. And installing from CC asks for a license number. Is there a way to retrieve my license?
This behavior started in LR2. Thinking back it may be related to OSX upgrade to Snow Leopard. After I hit print, the print job is sent to the printer and almost immediately “disappears” like nothing was sent. I have also gotten an error message of “/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Con tents/MacOS/rastertoescpll failed”. This only occurs in Lightroom. My workaround is to take the image into Photoshop and print from there. This happens with both of my Epson printers and also with an HP LaserJet, so I think it is a LR problem and not an Epson problem. All drivers for all printers updated to latest available for Snow Leopard. The behavior continued with LR3. Fixed itself for awhile, then in the middle of printing a series of prints, started again. I cannot print from within LR at all. MacBook Pro 2.16 core 2 duo, OSX 10.6.4, LR3, Photoshop CS3.
Through google searches I found the “rastertoescpll failed” issues reported after Snow Leopard, but they were related to Epson printers, and not just LR related and fixed with driver updates. This has not worked for me.
My dock and top menus have completely disappeared in Adoby LR (both 4 and the new 5) and I cannot get them to stay permenantly. Super annoying and this only happened after my Maverick upgrade. I contacted Apple, but the issue is ONLY with Lightroom -- not any other program, so Apple thinks it's an Adobe bug.
When I am working on an image, for some reason SOMETIMES, the cursor vanishes and all I will see is different elements momentarily highlighting but not enough to do anything in LR. pressing ESC gets me out of the module and somehow I have to exit the program...restart to get it back to normal again...
I'm running LR5 on Windows. I've got the grid view on my primary display and a second display showing the loupe view.
If the focus moves to another application (i.e. a small notepad window on the primary display) then I can still see LR with its grid view in the background behind notepad on the primary display however the loupe view on the second display disappears and I can see the desktop.
Is it possible to configure LR not to automatically hide the 2nd display when the input foucs moves to a different wiindow? I'd like to be able to continue displaying the image on the 2nd display while I'm doing something else on the primary display.
I've not been able to check but I've a feeling this is new behaviour in 5, I don't think 3 or 4 did this.

I am using LR 4.4 on an iMac. Why the White Balance Selector tool would disappear when moved across an image?
it seems to change to a vertical line with an arror top and bottom.
The areas of the image on which it disappears seem to be consistent, in other words, it disappears on the same portion of the image eveytime.
UPDATE: Since posting the above a few minutes ago I've noticed that my cursor is behaving eractically. For example, on a different image to the one used above, in the library module using the Loupe the cursor changes from a magnifying glass to an arrow pointing to the right. It does this on the same part of the image every time.
I'm going to try this again. Using PS CC for photographers, that is Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5.x, new iMac running Mavericks.
Having processed an image in LR and PS, and saved as TIFF back to LR. All is well.
If and when I subsequently take the TIFF back into PS for further tweaks and again save as TIFF back to LR, replacing the original TIFF, I then get the Metadata Conflict warning, the exclamation mark.
As far as metadata goes, I don't want to lose what I did in LR....that is, keywords, color codes, captions, gps data, etc. I do want to retain the additional adjustments I made in PS.
I've noticed that when I choose to 'import settings from disc' that the color code disappears and I have to re-do it.
If I select the 'overwrite with LR settings' option, my concern is that I lose those PS adjustments.
My questions is: WHAT settings could have been changed in my round trip to PS that trigger the warning?
Photoshop CC froze while I was duplicating and moving an image. I force quit the app. and tried to open it up again. It froze on the opening logo screen. I am on a I mac, Lion OS System.
I use a program that can consume memory like a dragon can consume humans (had to think of a good metaphor ) When I start up photoshop while this program is in use or when I exit the other program, photoshop will crash, almost instantly. The only solution is to restart the computer.
Is there a solution to this without having to restart the computer ? There is plenty of physical RAM, including 20+ gigs of virtual memory incase. Despite all this, photoshop continues to crash.
I run CS4 on Windows 7. Whenever I boot up, I get an error/prompt that says I have to restart the computer for updating to continue.
I know this has been discussed in many different places here, and I have tried everything everything I can find in them. Sometimes I get a fix, and then the next time updater runs, it's back.
Why can't this well-discussed problem be fixed in an update sometime? Or, perhaps this is my penance for still using CS4.
Since I upgraded to Photoshop CS6, I've found that every once in a while the keyboard becomes unresponsive. I can't tell whether anything specific that I'm doing triggers it, but I'll be editing an image and will press a shortcut key and find it doesn't work. It doesn't happen when I first open up an image, but usually after I've been working for a while. As far as I can tell (it's pretty random) it seems to happen when I'm using a tool to apply an effect to an image, like this last time it happened when I'd been using the Spot Healing Brush repeatedly on a photograph. (Of course that could be correlation without causality, since I'm a big fan of the Spot Healing Brush and tend to use it quite a bit whenever I'm editing photos). Note that the modifier keys still function, but all of the letter and number keys are unresponsive.
Sometimes - and lately it seems like it happens always, there's a sound associated with the shut off. It's possible that the times I didn't hear the sound I had my speakers off. It's a brief clicking noise - and I don't think it's any of the built-in alert sounds on my Mac, since I just listened to all of them and I recall this sound being different - but the sound is definitely coming from my speakers and is not a mechanical sound from the machine. The only way I've found to get my keyboard responding again is to shut down Photoshop and restart.
I'm on a Macbook Pro, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, with 8GB Ram; I'm on OS X 10.7.4 (not quite ready to upgrade to Mountain Lion).
I have a problem to save my Viewport Settings.I wanted my blueprints to look smooth, so I increased the "Background texture size" to 1024 and checked the "Match Bitmap Size as Closely as Possible". I did the same analog to "Download Texture Size". Everything works fine until I close 3ds Max and open it again. --> The settings are back do default and my blueprint is blurry.

my buttons in my custom shelf disappears when I restart maya. maya has admin privileges and the prefs folder in my documents is not read only and my user account has the privilege to access/write this folder. I'v tried renaming my prefs folder so that maya creates a new pref folder when it starts. that way the shelf works but in that way my other settings are lost.
have made draggable and droppable objects in my project. Everything is working great but also i have made a button Restart. The function of restatrt is that by pushing on this button everything goes on its places. Like reloading the page (but of course without reloading) How can i do this? Because i cannot do anything honestly.
I frequently use Photoshop CC to create panoramic images with Photomerge. I've found that as soon as I start the Photomerge process, my computer becomes absurdly slow. I'm not terribly surprised by this - my primary issue is that the computer remains insanely slow long after I've closed Photoshop CC. The only solution I've found is to restart the computer. Even this can be difficult, because the computer becomes slow enough that it takes minutes to shut down.
I want to make a point clear here: I'm not complaining about how my computer becomes slow while using Photomerge. I believe this is to be expected on a laptop such as this. The problem is that my otherwise fast computer becomes wildly slow even after I'm done and Photoshop is closed. Photoshop seems to run just fine otherwise.
I'm using an otherwise problem-free 15'' Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion (10.8.4). Computer specs: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM, Intel HD Graphics 3000 (512 MB). I currently have memory usage set to 80% under performance preferences.
