View 10 RepliesI have lightroom 3.6 on a Mac running OS 10.6. I am in the process of moving my picture library from the internal drive to an external drive because my internal drive is very full. I plan to have the LR catalog remain on the internal drive as others have suggested LR will run faster if the catalog remains on the internal drive.Â
Â
I initiated the move process within the LR library, by selecting all photos within about 150 folders inside a master "my photos" folder on the internal hard drive displayed in the library module of LR. I then dragged them into the new "my photos" folder I created on the external drive which was displaying inside the LR library module. Â
Â
First question, this moving process is progressing so slowly, at a rate of about one picture every second. is this normal?Â
Â
Second question: When I open the external drive by clicking on the drive itself, outside LR, it seems the pictures are flowing in without any of the original subfolder structure that was present on the internal drive. Is something wrong that I don't see the subfolders on the external drive? I want to preserve this structure and of course see it show up in the LR library for the external drive.
I used a trial version of Lightroom 4 and imported about 300 photos from my internal imac hard drive to tinker with during the trial. So when I first set LR up, the catalog was connected to my internal hard drive, via the Pictures folder. Then when the trial ended, I bought the software and installed it but in the meantime had transferred all my photo libraryfrom my computer internal hard drive to an external hard drive. Now that I have the LR 4 software and am no longer using the trial, I'm ready to import all my photos to Light room. My question is how to I change my LR catalog (which currently contains the 300 photos I imported during the trial period) to link to my big photo library which is now on my external hard drive, instead of linking to my computer's internal hard drive
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to import photographs from an external hard drive to LR4.1. The photos appear to come over ok and be available as long as the external hard drive is connected. Once it's disconnected, however, the photos are still in LR, but each has a line that says "The file named XXXX is offline or missing." What do I need to do to ensure that the photos are moved to the right place in LR so the entire file will be there, without the external hard drive connected?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI think this should be straightforward but want to make sure. I use Windows 7 on a Dell Desktop with a 1.5 TB HD. It's 30 Gigs from full which is one more shoot. I have backups on external drives but would like to have all my photos both internal and external for safety sake. I'm currently using lightroom 4.4.
When I install my second 2 TB HD I think all I would have to do is move My Pictures folder (with the lightroom catalog) to the new drive. What will I have to do within the software to let the Program know where it is?
I have LR4 in a Mac Pro. I have two internal drives both labelled "Hard Drive 2" (don't ask.) As a result, pictures have ended up on both drives, and my catalog is a mess. To clean it up, I want all the photos on one drive and I want to move LR folders from one drive to the other. I'm working on a big project and there are some 4,000 photos involved. I was going to export the photos from one drive to an external drive and then re-import them to the other drive into appropriate folders.Â

View 2 Replies View Relatedmy internal driver is full on my laptop. I have to either buy a new external HD (500GB/7200rpm) or change to a larger internal one (500GB/7200 or 5400rpm). I am aware the external one will be lower compared to internal one. is it acceptable? I think that PS will use HD only when opening and saving the photos. It uses memory and scratch disk (configured on internal one) most of the time. I can not add the second internal HD. Only Photshop CS4 and MS office installed on this laption which is only used for PS. OS is window 7 64-bit with 4GB memory.

View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently all my photos are stored and developed in my laptop, however it is getting too much for its hard drive. I am thinkinng of moving the entire LR catalog to an external harddrive. How to do this safely and also how to point the LR to its new location when I open it from the icon.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA friend just had major problems moving his v3 files. He had one top folder for all Lightroom. He keeps his catalog and photos on an external and now needs to increase the capacity of the external. So he copied them over in Windows with the entire Lightroom folder remaining intact, and reassigned the old drive letter to the new external hard drive, so the path to all photos is preserved.
Â
However, everyhting shows up Missing. "Find this folder" doesn't work. You navigate to the new location but it's not clear what exactly you "do" to relink. Clicking the name of the lost folder in the resulting dialog box (new-but-named-the-same-as-old-drive) didn't cange anthong back at the Library display of that folder. I know I -- myself -- will be moving to a new internal drive from the one currently storing my photos in the near future. So his problem is relavant to the hassle i can expect.
I have many photos on my laptop and have a catalog set up through Lightroom 3.5. I decided the best way to store the photos is to keep them on an external hard drive so that I may work on them easily from any computer on my network. (laptop is frequently shut off)  Is there a way to maintain /import/export/ edit the current catalog so that it works with the photos on the external drive? I would really hate to have to do the catalog with all the keywords all over again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter my internal HDD became full with over 30,000 DNGs, I moved all my photos along with the catalogue to my external drive. Now when I open LR, not only do I have to reimport the catalogue every time, but all my develop settings are gone! Hundreds of hours down the drain. Why has this happened, and is there any way I can retrieve them? I'm using v3.4.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been working up a window family that includes a correction for sizing the window to the structural core rather than a finish (plaster and render) which is what Revit does by default.
Â
I've managed to get the system functioning correctly at plan reveals - but for some reason, the finishes will not wrap at window head / cill level. I've set up 2 wall closure ref planes - called 'Closure External' and 'Closure Internal' and used these to control the extent of the finish wrapping.
Â
I've gone away to check the perfomance of the standard revit window families - and all of them seem to do the same thing, and fail to wrap any of the finishes at the window head despite wrapping correctly at plan reveals.
Â
In all cases above - the walls are set to wrap both internal and external at inserts.
moving my LR files to an external hard drive without the dreaded question mark or missing files message. I thought it would be easy.........I must be doing something wrong. I want to move some 30,000 photo files to external and work off external in the future. I purchased a Lacie 4 TB hard drive.Â
I would like step-by-step instructions.?
I'm going to move my image library, catalog and ACR cache to an external drive so that I can work with a consistent set of files and edits on multiple computers. I know what I need to do to move the catalog, and I know how to move the image files to the new drive so that LR is aware of the move.
Â
But what I'd really like to do is copy the image files to the new drive while leaving the existing images on the internal drive as a backup. As far as I can tell, LR doesn't support copying of images within the program. If I copy the files outside of LR, without deleting the originals, LR is going to conitinue to point to the orignal files on the internal disk.
Â
So, if I right click on a folder in the Library module folder tree, there's an option to Update Folder Location, and this seems to do what I need it to do, although I've only tried it on a single folder. Will Update Folder Location work to relink an entire folder tree in one operation?
Â
One related question: Where does LR store it's preferences? One of the catalog specific preferences is Standard Preview Size. My desktop has much higher res monitors than my laptop, so if this setting is stored in the catalog then I'll have to pick one value for both computers. I'm thinking it would be better to use the larger value, for the desktop, but I'm not sure how that will play on the laptop. (It would be nice if this were computer specific, rather than catalog specific.)
How do I remove an individual, fill in the background and move people to seperate locations within a photograph?
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing Autocad 2000 LT. Need to create a 2D basic drawing showing 14 TPI external and internal threads with a certain class of fit joined togeather. The basic drawing needs to be drawn in such a way that it could be easily changed to show different Threads Per Inch and or class of fit. Then, with that approach in mind, what would be the basic steps I should take in order to create the basic drawing and then easily change it to show different TPI and or class of fit. Note: I only need to show the external and internal threads, not the entire screw or object attached.

Â
1. Adding Effects to a path applies the effect but the effect is not visible in the Appearance panel.
2. In conjunction with this, it appears that internal stroking of the object creates a weird offset. The stroking is visually incorrect. The stroke generally offset by -1 on each axis. If the object has had a rounding effect applied to it, some of the corners become mangled.
