Lightroom :: Missing GPS Data In LR5
Jul 17, 2013
Just installed LR5. After importing RAWs from my 6D with attached GPS data I have to realize that they are missing in LR. The import is straigth and standard without any exclusions. Geo setter and other viewers prove that GPS data are transferred with the pictures but in LR EXIFS are quite "naked". No private zone ist marked in the chart module which might play a role in export functions only..OS is Win7 64, all up to date.

I'm now switching from Aperture to Lightroom. But now I've big troubles with my geotagged images (+40'000) I export my photos with a seperate XMP files. In Bridge is see the GPS-Tag but when I import the photos in Lightroom then the location isn't imported!

I've just installed Civil3D, 64-bit on windows 7(running on bootcamp) and am trying to insert a georeferenced raster image but have encountered some issues.
1. "Home tab>>Data panel>>>insert An Image" - The data panel is missing and it's also not found in "customize palettes"
2. Trying the data connect route does not work either: Display manager>>>Data>>>Connect To Data - There is no 'Data' option and I cannot connect to Data.

We have created a number of project parameters (all ifc parameters)
Site Name
Building
Floor
Space Number
Space Type
And Mark Test, Yes another test, As identity data.
We can schedule out all the information with no issues, however when we export to ifc we can only find the “Test” information. Are we missing a setting in the export or have we create the project parameter up incorrectly.

I'm having a problem with the embedded camera data that is stored with a photograph. I'm not sure but every once in a while PS deletes the data from a photograph when I edit the photograph.
This is not happening every time. Some photographs I edit all the data is still there after I edit. Others I edit have been changed. All the camera data is missing and the original creation date, the date the photograph was taken is changed to the date I edited the photograph.
The creation date and time is important to me to keep photographs from different cameras in the correct sequence of real time. Is this normal for PS or am I causing it?

Since upgrading to Autocad LT 2012 I have had difficultly printing from autocad to my plotter. Drawings plot with information missing - in model space and paper space. The lines/polylines are not on hidden layers and all show fine in the plot preview. The parts which are missing/do not print are not consistent either - parts of polylines/objects which makes me think it isnt to do with my line type either.

I recently bought a new Dell XPS computer running Windows Vista that included Photoshop Elements 6.0. My pictures were on my old computer in Adobe Photoshop starter album edition 3.2. I tried directly moving files using windows explorer (Think hard drive not internet) to external hard drive then importing to new 6.0 version but pictures would require "reconnecting" upon disconnecting from external drive and never would reconnect after disconnecting. I then tried the "Burn to CD" option in starter edition 3.2. This way transferred data successfully without requiring "reconnecting" but did not transfer catalog data.In addition, there is no "move" option in 3.2 and the 6.0 version will not load on my old computer for some reason. How do I go about transferring both the picture data (~3gig) along with the catalog data (tags & key words)?

AE crashed during the rendering process, a window came out and asked if I would save the file, I did but unfortunately I did not turn it into a new project. After all, AE shutted down.
Then there I was trying to open my project which was saved, although it turns out to be an error which said "missing data in file"
I tried to google it and I looked into like 20 forum pages, I tried putting the project on a new disk and importing instead of opening and stuff.Well I at least learned I should backup the project next time.
But still wondering if there's a way to save my project?
Btw, what does it mean by pressing capslock when importing the project?

Yesterday AE CS4 crashed and told me to save the project. Unfortunately i overwrote my only existing file. Now i can't open it any more, i always get the error message displayed above. Anyway, im surprised by the fact that the file still has the same size as before, so there has to be the same data in the file, hasn't it?
I also tried the capslock method and the importing method, non of them worked. At the capslock method AE only imported one audio file, but not a single composition. How to restore it?

I've been working with Civil 3D for a while and I've gotten the Profile View and Data Bands down.Whenever we create an alignment with only two vertices (at each endpoint) and make the Northings, Eastings, and Elevations show in the data bands, the start and end show no data. (As below) Now I'm sure the data band is set up correctly because if I add a vertex somewhere along the alignment, all the missing data shows up.

This was my first go-around attempting to create a custom tool palette for our office. Everything was fine, the palette worked well. All of the block libraries and associated files were initially saved on my local drive. I then moved the files and folders out on the network, repathed all the items on the palette to the new area but for whatever reason when I insert blocks that have attribute data attached It is not recognizing it anymore. I am just trying to get this piece straightened out before I export the palette itself out to the network to share.

I have a drawing that contains an alignment and 2 profiles (existing and proposed). Call this File A.
I created data shortcuts for these 3 objects and reference them in many drawings.
Last week File A was having some problems, it was inexplicably large and seemed to have some corruption I couldn't fix. So I created a new drawing, call it File B, and promoted the alignment and profiles into it.
I used Data Shortcut Editor to point the data shortcuts to File B. In drawings that already referenced these objects they look like the they are coming through just fine.
The problem is that I can't see the profiles listed in the Data Shortcuts section of prospector. The shortcuts folder selected is correct, the xml file is there, it points to File B. The alignment is listed and I can create that reference in a new drawing. I also can't find anything wrong with File B.

Civil 3D 2012. One structure in my pipe network is not following along when the network is data-referenced in to other plan drawings. The structure is present in the source drawing, and included in the network, along with the pipes that are connected to it. All other structures and pipes are operating fine.

I have a new Geotagger Pro 2 GPS (Solmeta) and tried it out yesterday. The GPS coordinants are not in the metadata. I do get the elevation and the direction the photo was taken. I tried Updating & Read Metadata in the menu but I still do not get the info. When viewed the photos in the camera, they had the GPS data.

I have just upgraded my computer with a faster processor and larger hard drive, as I've recently bought a camera that takes much bigger photos (5D Mk3). This has required me to also upgrade software from Lightroom 2 to Lightroom 4.
When I first opened LR 4, none of my photos (or at least the metadata) from previous hard drive appeared. On looking through the hard drive I have found both the photos (which have transferred across successfully) and what appeared to be the old LR 2 metadata (file name "Lightroom 2.lrcat"). I clicked on the lrcat file and a pop-up advised me to select "Upgrade catalog to LR4" which I did. The process appeared to have worked because it opened LR4 and showed the folder structure and images. Not all of the info is however there on LR 4 screen; in the Library of LR4 each of the folders has a "?" over it, and when I move the mouse cursor over the displayed image in the viewing pane, a message says "The file named "XXXX" is offline or missing". So it seems that LR 4 does not know where the photos are.
how I re-link the metadata with the photos? Is it simply a case of clicking "Library" tab (top of Library window) and then "Find missing photos", or is there a better way of doing this? I have 14000 photos in dozens of folders to re-link up with the meta data.

Just updated to LR4.1 Win and working on GPS features.
There is that cool GPS tracklog import, but I am really missing a GPS data export! I would like to have the opportunity to mark some pictures and export a track list from that information to file.

I was recently reading on a Nikon Forum where a writer stated that some data is lost when converting to DNG in Lightroom.
Every compression algorith is flawed if a single bit is lost and the original can not be recreated. Since the DNG converter must know about your camera model and it actually converts the NEF into an image before compressing the image, AND you can not, after converting to DNG convert back to original NEF, it is to me obvious that it is indeed a lossy compression, not just 'simple' data compression like zip, tar or whatever other type of data compression you want to compare with, which is truly lossless.
The Nikon lossless compression works entirely on data compression principle, preserving every bit and recreating every bit of data when you edit the raw image, and that can not be done once the image is converted to DNG. That is why many people, who use DNG, also preserve the original NEF, which in my opinion, is a totally pointless work flow. The only reason I can see to use DNG is the ability to share the image with somebody else who is not able to edit NEF, but I might as well use TIFF in that case.
The DNG converter must have knowledge of the camera model concerned, and be able to process the source raw image file, including key metadata to be able to convert and compress. A real lossless compression algorithm NEVER looks at the contents of the data because it is totally irrelevant for the converter to know what type of data you convert and try to compress, since it is based on mathematical patterns and statistics only.
I look at DNG like I look at PDF. A Word document, especially with photographs in it, can be converted to PDF and it may look like you have not lost anything, but yes, you have lost a lot actually and you can never ever recreate the original Word document with the same quality like you have had in your original.

I have a Canon 6D with built-in GPS. Importing the photos into Lightroom brings in the GPS data automatically, but it doesn't bring in the GPS "log." The "log" is the actual path you've walked (or hiked or biked or driven) while the GPS receiver is on. In Aperture (or Canon software or some others), you can directly import the ".log" file into the program. Seeing your path in a new city (or whatever) is fun. Lightroom appears to only accept .gpx files.
I've found a simple piece of software that converts .log files to .gpx. (It's called HoudahGPS.) But is there an easier or better way to do this? I'm not looking to add steps to my workflow!!

During import of files into LR and you can rename them and write the gps data into the new file name. Is there any real use for this feature? Writing the coordinates into the file name creates just a long name and what else...?
A review of Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT3 says, that their gps programm gives not only the data, where the picture was taken, but the sights in the area as well. Is this program available outside the Panasonic environment, too? (I'm using Nikon).

When I rate the picture with a star and I save it to the exif data it only saves it to thseperate xmp file. Also if I rotate the picture it only writes it in the separate file. I want to save also the exif data to the jpg file. How can I do this in one go?

I have just completed the import of a large number of images into LR 4.1. The images all have GPS data and it was processed correctly. For many of the images, LR also correctly processed the 'sublocation' fields in the map module.
For example, LR completed the city, etc. as Oban, Scotland, United Kingdom. However, none of this information appears in the metadata - either within LR or reading the ITPC data after export as a jpg file. Only the GPS coordinates are retained.
If I am understanding the process and reading the data correctly, how would one use the location data that LR provides?
Is there a way to copy 'sublocation' to fields in the ITPC for the image? Could it be copied to the caption field?
If there is no way to record the location data, why would Adobe add it to LR?
