Jun 12, 2013A large combined file in our GIS format corrupted. I dug out all the old files that were originally used to create it but they are too old and will not combine in the GIS.
I exported each one to SHP, and then imported all of them into civil 3d as shp files, creating object data. This meant that I could correct the corrupted sections, which I have done, but now I need to get it back into the GIS program with the object data intact.
The problem is that the object data, coming from several combined files, is in several tables. Each table contains the same identical fields. (eg every table has a field called drawing)
I need to combine those tables so that I can re-export the shape files. I need one table with all of the object data in it.

Feb 11, 2014When I delete old copies of LR5's catalog off of my backup external drive, I leave the 3 most current. For some reason the next time I start LR, it cannot find the catalog, and I have to manually point to the backup, since I know that one is current. Nov 15, 2012I recently converted to Mac from pc, and upgraded from LR 3.6 to LR 4 at the same time.Apple transferred all of my pc files transferred to the Mac, and then I downloaded the LR upgrade. That may have been a mistake, as all of the 3.6 catalogs remained on the PC. How do I get the 3.6 PC catalogs into the new version on the Mac? I'm thinking that perhaps I should uninstall LR, have Apple repeat the data migration, and then reinstall the LR 4? Or, is there another way?

Oct 21, 2013I had imported photos as CR2's worked on them in develop screen. Closed Lightroom5. When I reopened it all catalog references are gone- from this session and previous sessions. So I pulled in the photos from folders but none of the metadata changes were there (I now know it's because they were imported as CR2's-- won't do THAT again!) Is there anyway to get changes back?

Mar 9, 2013Pictures do not show up in catalogs. Older pictures are there but newer imports appear as grey boxes. I can click in them in develop mode and work on them so they are in the program. After working on them they appear in the catalogs until I develop other pics at which point they switch to the grey box again

Jul 14, 2012I had a computer crash and burn. My hard drive was ok, I have a new computer and have rearranged all my photos on the new hard drive. I need to start fresh with Lightroom but when I reinstall the software it auto loads the catalogs. I have about 7000 photos and its a big job but I have to do it. Can I reload Lightroom and not the catalogs?
Also, If I delete all metadata and previews associated with my pictures will this also delete all editing of my photos or will that just get rid of the Catalogs?
Lightroom :: How To Combine Images From Several Different Shoots Into One

I have 4 differernt photo shoots that I want to combine into one big single catalogue. I want to be able to rank and choose images from all 4 shoots at the same time so I can get the best ones identified.
Each shoot is already in its separate catalogue but I cant figure out how to get all 4 shoots to show up at once so I can rank the best shots and maybe even make a collection of my best images from the 4 shoots.
Lightroom :: How To Combine Different Saturation Sliders
Aug 8, 2012I'm not sure I understand how LR4 combines values from the global saturation slider and local adjustments. Two questions in bold at the bottom. I made the following experiments:
1) start with a color raw image, process version 2012, untouched.
2) bring down global saturation to -100
3) add a graduated filter with saturation +100 (I added, say, sharpness -100 to see precisely to which side the filter is being applied)
I would expect half of the picture to be colored and half b&w. Instead the filter is totally ineffective (i.e. it produces absolutely no effect, you can see this rotating it). So I conjecture that the total saturation is not "additive" (i.e. -100+100) but maybe "compound" (i.e. the product of 1+p/100). if this were true, then any slider equal to -100 would bring saturation to the minimum. let's see if this holds true:
4) set global saturation to -100. any value of the filter saturation is ineffective
5) set filter saturation to -100 and global saturation to 0. now (say) in my photo the sky is blue on the left and grey on the right.
6) slowly move global saturation from -50 to +100: the grey sky changes! from a... less saturated grey to a sort of... super-saturated grey (more brilliant and slightly yellow?).
So the conjecture is false and it looks like the filter is applied first, and the global value is applied last, IGNORING what the filter possibly did (so if the filter turned blue into grey, then "saturate" the grey).
In particular, if I want to desaturate everything, except for a very small area, I have to paint the complement of the area with saturation -100 which feels quite unnatural (I'd like to do it painting something only on the small area).

Jan 2, 2013In my New Years' organizing spree today, I decided to split my Lightroom catalog into two separate catalogs. I didn't see an efficient way of doing this, so what I did was copy my entire catalog into a new catalog, and then I deleted (from disk) the ones that didn't belong in the respective catalog. After I deleted a few "catalog A" photos from catalog B, I double-checked catalog A to make sure I wasn't totally deleting them. . .only to later find out that I was only looking at a thumbnail. So now ALL of my photos are deleted, and I can't figure out how to restore them.
I used Time Machine to restore yesterday's version of Lightroom 4 lrcat. I created a new catalog--trying to start fresh--tried to import the photos from LR 4 lrcat. I have thumbnails, but on each it says "the file named x is offline or missing."
I also have a LR 3 catalog which houses the bulk of my years of photos since I just upgraded to LR4 a month or so ago. I tried restoring that from Time Machine as well but was unsuccessful in getting anything more than a picture that says "the file named x is offline or missing."
Although I am hopeful because I do use Time Machine, I do have a foreboding feeling because at some point when I deleted over 1000 images, I got a message that said that this action could not be undone because I was doing it to 1000+ images.
I am using LR 4.3. Using OS X 10.8.2. I am using some RAW files, others from earlier years are JPGs.

Apr 2, 2012when you have overlapping catalogs there is a different problem. Unfortunately, she doesn't tell how to deal with that. When I merged my catalogs with LR4 (they were created in LR3), I got the new catalog with new folders but no photos available. I am trying to consolidate several overlapping catalogs (don't ask how that happened.) onto a new external hard drive where most of my folders now reside. I moved the foldes to the new drive with LR3, not by dragging the folders themselves. I also want to transfer some photos from a pocket drive usedn ona trip to the new 2TB external drive.
