Apr 3, 2012I edited a bunch of photos and then created a catalog. I can no longer find the edited versions of the photos. The catalog when opened does not show any pictures.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had to reinstall an OS in my computer due to a virus. As a result LR 3 in no longer installed. I still have the catalog on a backup disk and have just installed and updated to LR 4.4. What is the best way to merge the V3 catalog with V4 and are there any things I should expect or look out for?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy kids were playing with my PC and accidently renamed my main storage drive. I renamed the drive and didnt think much of it until I opened Lightroom.
It has obviously lost the link with my catalog and is now asking to upgrade to catalog to work with LR4. I am concerned that if I go with this option I will lose all the the changes I have made to my images.
I have 55000 photos in the catalog so this would be pretty bad. I have been importing all of my files as DNG for quite a few years now and I am sure I had it set in preferences to embed changes into the DNG Files.
I created a new catalog for photos from the new year onwards. I am using the same Adobe version 8 and computer as before. I then imported photos to the new catalog and tagged them. I deleted any keywords tags headings that I no longer needed in the new catalog.
However I went to my old last year's catalog today only to find 1:any photos tagged under headings I deleted in the new catalog are not there and 2:all the tags and keywords are missing for the photos that are still there,. So basically nothing is tagged anymore and most of the photos are missing from Photoshop!!
I just upgraded to Lightroom 4 this week and am haing trouble getting CS5 to open the Lightroom-edited photos. For example, if I adjust the exposure, clarity, etc. in LR 4 and then hit command E to take the file over to Photoshop for further editing, CS5 isn't opening that edited file. It is opening the original file that was imported into LR 4 but not the edited version. These are RAW files.
Interestingly, all of the older files that I originally edited in LR 3 (they have now been moved into the LR4 catalog) will still move over from LR4 to CS5 when I hit command E. Only the files that were imported from my camera card directly into LR 4 aren't cooperating.
Not sure if this is a LR or CS6 issue. When CS6 finishes editing, it sends a virtual copy back to LR4 - I now have 2 copies of the photo. How do I then get the newly edited version to be the main photo in all collections etc - does this have to be done manually i.e. remove the original and replace with the copy
View 5 Replies View RelatedI must preface this by saying that I am new to LR4 and I have been trying to follow instructions in a popular book as to creating collections, etc. I have been trying to create collections and organize photos. I recently shot a wedding and went through about 900 photos and whittled it down to 350 and now today for some reason I decided to back up a previous catalog and now everything I did yesterday appears to be gone and the only photos that I see in LR are those bridal photos in that catalog.
I know that this is the most amateaur of questions, but what in the world have I done, and can I recover that previous import and the changes I made to them?
When I right click on a photo in LR3 and click on 'edit in Photoshop CS4', it opens the dialogue box that it has always opened: 'This version of Lightroom may require Camera Raw version 6.5 to be fully compatible,' or something to that effect. I have never needed to worry about that, and have always been able to just click on OK and it has worked anyway, however suddenly it doesn't.
So I checked (just in case the issue was my version of Camera Raw) and I am running Camera Raw version 5.70.213
So I tried to update it to 6.5. I downloaded it (and the Adobe installer manager which it seemed to want me to install), but when I try to install 6.5 I get a message: 'This is not required'.So one message tells me it is required, and another won't allow it to install and says it is not required.
I don't seem to be able to install the latest version of Camera Raw (doesn't bother me as I don't use it - I use LR, except if it is causing this problem), and I have the problem of being unable to edit any of my LR catalogue in CS4.
I have recently purchased Lightroom 4. I have edited my photos and saved them as JPEG. I exported them to my computer and wanted to select some for my Picasa web album. I have never resized previously and uploaded full size as I thought they are my back up if I lost everything here.
Anyway when I tried to upload to Picasa it said the image was too large. Some were around 3-4MB which i thought was ok?
I did a bunch of editing on a large group of photos but did not export them from RAW to jpegs. Is there a way to do this without doing them one by one, like a batch export?
I'm using LR4.
I have a little problem with Adobe Lightroom 4. I just started using the program and it was all workin well. I do a lot of editing through the "develop" section. Anyways, I started to export some of the photos (made them be re named to edit# according to the original number of the photo) and I found that now the "last edited" on my exported pictures said 2014/04/09. Why has the edited time changed?
View 3 Replies View RelatedExporting files to hard disk with the original item set for file type. dng file shows up on the exported directory as the cropped / edited photo and there is no sidecar file.
When I click on the history panel for this export panel, it brings the photo up in the non cropped version just as I would wish.
I did do an unclick on "embed fast load data" in preferences and then an update dng preview as the fix for the banding problems when viewing dng files in irfanview and picassa and that worked, but hope it did not create my problem described above.
when I access in Lightroom 4.4 a folder which had been edited originally (and imported) in Lightroom 3, the options and settings for Developing and editing in LR 4 change to appear like the old options in LR3 (Exposure, Recovery, Fill Light and Blacks, instead of Highlights, shadow, whites and blacks etc..). Why is Lightroom 4 doing this. Most of the files I am trying to edit have not been touched before in LR 3 but were simply imported originally into the catalogue from LR3.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just spotted that some of my photos that I've edited in Photoshop from Lightroom are a whopping 450MB. Looking deeper I found that they are saved as uncompressed TIFF files, this despite the default save format for Photoshop in Lightroom's preferences being set to ZIP compressed TIFF files. So why doesn't this setting work and how can I make Photoshop save things compressed?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 28,485 photos in one Lightroom catalogue, but it appears to have lost them all. Everything has a question mark on it. I have not moved the photos and what it tells me is the last location is still the location - nothing has changed. If I go through the 'find missiong photos' routine, it will find them again. However, it only does that one folder at a time, even with the 'find nearby photos' ticked, and there are hundreds of folders. I can't go through all of them manually, and don't understand why it has done this when I haven't moved any of the photos. I have other catalogues that are working normally, and I don't want to start again because of losing all my selections and collections.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI've had LR for 18 months and been unwell recently so not used it for 3-4 months. I've been importing photos etc. Anyway, on the left hand navigation pane there was always my photos (which I imported and were stored on my hard drive) and also collections. Easy access. These have all disappeared! I'm in a panic and have been searching for hours and hours. The left hand pane now has snapshot, history, presets etc OR cataloug and collections, but none of mine are there. have i mis hit something OR have they gone for some reason?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have somehow deleted pictures from my hard drive and all i have left is the cache folder. There are several .dat files ( 1 gig worth ) in the folder but I can't seem to extract them. Is there any way to extract these .dat files to their original files?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI use to have all my pictures in a single catalog - "MyPics". It contains around 50.000 photos.
Last week, LR4 has silently created a new copy of my catalog: "MyPics-2". No warning, no message. I did not notice immediately.
The 2 catalog files have roughly the same size, but the preview folders are very different: old: 350MB, 100 files, 115 folders new: 280GB, 47000 files, 34000 folders I assume it moved the preview files from old to new.
Is my assumption of moved preview files correct? Is this related to the upgrade from LR3.6 to LR4?
LR4, Win7x64, 8GB Ram
LR seems to remember what I have done previously to a file, i.e. if I have edited the metadata of that file, and then it shows this added or changed information after importing the same files all over again, even if I create a completely new catalog. Is this normal? It's as if the new catalog inherits my previous changes to that file. But how? Isn't it so that Lightroom saves any edits and changes to the file inside the catalog? So if I am starting off with a new catalog but I import the same files again, it should not be aware of any previous changes? In theory?... right?
Right now I have a catalog named Experimental 5 with 8 CR2 files in it. Now if I change capture time for these files from say 08:00 to 07:00, create a new catalog named Experimental 6 and import the same 8 files in it, it would say "07:00" as capture time?... how? When I view these files in Windows Explorer it would still say "08:00". If I used the Save Metadata to file option from the Metadata menu I might just have sidecar XMP files. Is this where it's getting its information from when creating a new catalog?
Could this have anything to do with the option "Write date or time changes into proprietary raw files" found in Catalog Settings?
My workflow is such that I create a new catalog for each shoot I do. This way it doesn't get sluggish with thousands of photos and such, files don't get orphaned when they're backup up to external drives and so on.
I create a new folder for the shoot in which the RAW files to and the catalog, catalog previews and everything that goes along with that.
I was wondering though, is it possible to adjust the settings so that when you create a new catalog, it AUTOMATICALLY loads your identity plate settings, develop user presets and so on? I have to copy them manually each time now...
My Lightroom catalogue crashed, and i started a too old backup version. By importing new files, lightroom does show the older files in the importfield, are they still there? I desperately need them back,
