I have somehow deleted pictures from my hard drive and all i have left is the cache folder. There are several .dat files ( 1 gig worth ) in the folder but I can't seem to extract them. Is there any way to extract these .dat files to their original files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had a computer crash and want to migrate my photos and changes from my old hard drive into my newly installed Lightroom software on the new computer. I recovered the old drive, and accessed it from my new computer. I found the most recent Lightroom catalog and imported it. Then I imported all of my photos into Lightroom. The problem is that the catalog and the photos don't seem to be talking to each other. In the catalog, the photos are there all bunched together, no folders separating by date. In the photo folders that ARE separated by date, the original photos are there as they were first imported (RAW files), but don't have the develop changes that I made to them. How can I get these two things to link up?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have multiple computers in my department that just received multiple Microsoft updates, a service pack update to Windows 7 and an upgrade to Internet Explorer 9. When they restarted and browsed in Windows explorer, all the Autodesk icons have been replaced by a generic icon. We tried to reset by re-establshing the file association and that did not work.
How do we rebuild the Autodesk icon cache on these machines?
I have 28,485 photos in one Lightroom catalogue, but it appears to have lost them all. Everything has a question mark on it. I have not moved the photos and what it tells me is the last location is still the location - nothing has changed. If I go through the 'find missiong photos' routine, it will find them again. However, it only does that one folder at a time, even with the 'find nearby photos' ticked, and there are hundreds of folders. I can't go through all of them manually, and don't understand why it has done this when I haven't moved any of the photos. I have other catalogues that are working normally, and I don't want to start again because of losing all my selections and collections.

I've been importing photos etc. Anyway, on the left hand navigation pane there was always my photos (which I imported and were stored on my hard drive) and also collections. Easy access. These have all disappeared! I'm in a panic and have been searching for hours and hours. The left hand pane now has snapshot, history, presets etc OR cataloug and collections, but none of mine are there. have i mis hit something OR have they gone for some reason?

View 5 Replies View RelatedToday, after moving some folders that were incorrectly located (based on year/month/date) back to their proper location, I optimized the catelog. I then discovered that all my keyword tags were missing, but the image caption and description ("Notes") were not lost. This amounts to approximately 10 years worth of images.
Why did did I lose all the keyword tags? How can I recover them? I have not closed or restarted the Elements Organizer, nor have I tried to Repair the catalogs for fear of overwriting something that cannot be corrected. When should the repair catelog be used?
I am using a Dell desktop computer with Windows XP. We have an external HD for backup that is supposed to be constantly syncing for backup.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have the preference set to keep 1:1 cache files for 30 days, and the max cache size is set to 30gb. The cache file has never yet approached this size. I've gone through the trouble of having LR work in the background to create previews for whole collections. After this process, performance is as snappy as I'd expect; images load immediately and there's no more than a one second lag when zooming in to 1:1. But hours or days later, on the same collections, when there has been no change made to the files, everything slows down. The wheels spin as LR loads each image preview, even at reduced fit-to-screen size. Processor utilization zooms to near 100% during these loads, so it seems LR is rendering the views all over again.
What happened to my cached previews?
Running a mac pro, 8 core xeon 2.8ghz, 18gb ram, 3tb 7200rpm data drive that's about 10% full.
The delay happens when in develop mode. In Library mode the pre-made previews are available and load instantly. Is this just the way things are?
I am in the process of upgrading from Elements 2.0 to Elements 11.0 AND setting up a new computer. How do I make sure I don't lose any of my photos and in which order should I do this? Do I need to install 2.0 on new computer?

I've read that the Develop module stores information on photos it opens in the Camera Raw Cache, while the Library module stores its previews in the LRDATA directory adjacent to the Lightroom Catalog. I've also read that the former can be stored anywhere and is limited to a size specified in Preferences, while the latter must accompany the Catalog file and has no cap on its size.
So why is my Camera Raw Cache always empty? I go in and out of the Develop module, edit, switch among photos within Develop, view images at 1:1 and larger within Develop, etc. Shouldn't that cause cache entries to be generated in the Camera Raw Cache? I've tried moving my Camera Raw Cache from within Preferences, and I have the size of the cache set to 30 GB with plenty of room on the drive, but it's still always empty.
I have 1142 Camera Raw cache files. Do I need them all or can some be deleted?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new computer and want to move the databse catalog over. I backed up in PSE 9 to an external hard drive. I connected to HD to the new computer and tried a resotre catalog. I chose "New Location" since I was going from XP to Windows 7 and was unsure if there would be a conflict with file locations. I also chose "Restore Original Floder Strucure". Very quickly I recieve an error message "Could not restor file .xml". I have run Restore Catalog several times and each time a DIFFERENT FILE receives the error message. I then disabled Norton Anti Virus Auto-Protect. I then disabled several programs running in the background. Same problem. I then copied the Backup Catalog to the new computer and tried to Restore it from there. Same Problem. I have now run a Repair Catalog on the original file. PSE states there is no error. I want to purchas PSE 11, but wanted to install/restore the database with the same version 9 first.

I also did a clean of the PC after to clear any registry errors too. Still the same happening. Photoshop works fine.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi was trying to move some files via LR.I've researched and found that everyone else was able to fix their issue by moving the preview database out of LR, tried that but it doesn't fix the problem.I've moved all files except the new preview and catalog (only a single catalog) database from the Picture/ Lightroom folder.I've rebooted the computer several times and tried opening LR, still no joy.The size of my catalog is 3.8GBThe size of the preview is 6.5GB (77,186 files in 45,745 folders).This is a new install from scratch on a new PC,
Specs are:
Intel i7 4770
32GB memory
2 x 250GB SSD drive in RAID 1 for OS and apps
1 x 6TB SATA HDD for images in a RAID 5
1 x 5.3TB SATA HDD for final images in a RAID 5
I've had nothing but issues with this system since day 1, images transferred and they do not show up correcting inthe individual folders (especially 2012). Total image count is about 320,000
Seems to me that LR cannot handle the numbers although LR3.6 was a lot stable this version is shakey all over the place.
