Photoshop Elements :: Couldn't Restore File In Restore Catalog

Oct 8, 2012

I have a new computer and want to move the databse catalog over. I backed up in PSE 9 to an external hard drive. I connected to HD to the new computer and tried a resotre catalog. I chose "New Location" since I was going from XP to Windows 7 and was unsure if there would be a conflict with file locations. I also chose "Restore Original Floder Strucure". Very quickly I recieve an error message "Could not restor file .xml". I have run Restore Catalog several times and each time a DIFFERENT FILE receives the error message. I then disabled Norton Anti Virus Auto-Protect. I then disabled several programs running in the background. Same problem. I then copied the Backup Catalog to the new computer and tried to Restore it from there. Same Problem. I have now run a Repair Catalog on the original file. PSE states there is no error. I want to purchas PSE 11, but wanted to install/restore the database with the same version 9 first.

Lightroom :: Cannot Restore From Backup

Apr 11, 2012

I have not been able to restore my catalog(s) using the Backups.  My computer crashed and will not start up.  So I am thinking, whew – good thing my original image files and backups are stored on a separate (and unaffected) hard drive (plus 2 additional backups of all of this).  Until I tried to restore my catalog from the backups.

I am contemplating what to do with the crashed computer, I decide to check the Lightroom backups just to ensure that work fine.

.If I try to open the backup catalogs on my laptop (a separate computer from the one that crashed) without moving them from their current location/ folders (in backup folders on the hard drives) I get an error message that says the catalog file is not writable (due to incorrect permissions or because another Lightroom application is using the catalog).

If I move the catalog backup to the laptop (to a folder location that has unrelated functioning catalogs), I get a message that says the folder cannot be found. I have tried to restore 3 separate LR3 catalogs.  I have not attempted to restore the LR4 catalogs yet.

Lightroom :: 4.0 Can't Delete Plugins

Apr 15, 2012

I have some duplicate plugins that I no longer use and want to delete (for example, two extra versions of the Smugmug publish plugin after I installed a newer one in a different folder, Nikon tether since I don't have Nikon, etc.).  But the while the Add button is active, the Remove button is grayed out.  I tried both enabled and disabled, but then I realized that Remove is grayed out for all the plugins.

I also tried opening the plugin to edit it. Then the Remove button is not grayed out, but while clicking it does break the connection, it doesn't remove the plugin.

Lightroom :: Restore Deleted Folder

Sep 26, 2013

I deleted a folder in the library mode and now I need this folder to be back. I tried to import the hole folder again, but Lightroom didn't show me the images like there weren't any images. I think, that I didn't actually deleted the folder and that the pictures are still in the catalog. And I don't have a back up for this catalog.

Lightroom :: How To Backup / Restore Presets In 4

Sep 16, 2012

I need to re-insatll my PC and wanted to know how I can backup/restore my LR4 presets/preferences.  The most important for me to keep are the Smart Collections, Keyword list and Export settings (to Flickr).  I also use a number of plug-iins, but I imagine I simply need to re-load these (however, if I can keep the settings associated with these plug-ins that would save a lot of time).

Lightroom :: 3 - Restore A Deleted Folder From HD?

Nov 18, 2012

When I first began using LR I don't think I understood the navigation correctly, because for one project, back in June, I created a folder and moved favorites (flagged and 5-starred) from other folders into that one. What I didn't realize until 5 minutes ago is that it actually moves those files on your HD as well! The folder in LR has long since been deleted and for a heart-stopping 15 minutes or so I thought all my favorite photos were gone as well.

What I found, however, was the original project folder with all my favorites on my HD. So that's okay - problem is, now when I try to bring the folders back into LR, it treats them all as new, untreated photos. It doesn't recognize them. It doesn't recognize any adjustments I've made, either. Even in Finder when I open the photos, they're all totally untreated.

My question: is there a way I can get LR to recognize those photos again? Or am I going to have to go one by one and re-do all my adjustments, keywords, and folder placement?

I also upgraded from LR3 to LR4 at the time that I upgrade my laptop so that updated my existing catalog, if that's relevant.

I realise this sounds crazy. On the file menu when I open a prior catalogue it is never the right one!!

Lightroom :: How To Get LR To Reference PS That Include Nik Plugins

Dec 1, 2013

I have a problem with referencing an appropriate instance of Ps from Lr.  I don't know too much how this works with Lr & Mac, or how it happened, but I apparently have several instances of Ps referencing different plugins, and Lr's default references the wrong one.

History:  I tried the Topaz Labs plugins but ended up pruchasing and installing Nik's plugins.  I followed Topaz instructions for uninstalling the plugins, but they are still showing up in Ps instances I cannot find.

The appropriate instance of Ps in in my Mac's launch tray, which calls up the app located in the folder '/Applications/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS5.1'.  If I create an additional Lr external editor that points at this app it works properly.  However, the default external editor (Ps) opens up another instance of Ps which does not include Nik plugins, but rather Topaz Labs plugins.

Further, if I try to open a image file from Finder ('open with') I get an "application moved" message (update or not).  If I choose either 'update' or 'not to update' it opens an instance of Ps that includes both Topaz and Nik plugins.  The message is mysterious, but at least I get an instance of Ps with the plugins I want.

Aside from the mystery, how can I get Lr to reference Ps that will include the Nik plugins??  Also feel free to contribute to the mystery.

Lightroom :: How To Restore References To Images In Library

Feb 21, 2012

Just noticed that all photos that I had imported since last July have disappeared from the library. I've checked that I'm not using the backup library. I'm not sure what is the cause or even really if it just happened. I've imported photos last week, and those are present. But those added between end of July and end of December (the last import before the one last week) are gone. The files itself are still present, but they are not part of the library anymore. Though, I'm happy the originals are intact, I'm frustrated at the thought of redoing all the keywords, ratings and develop settings.

My setup: mbp with 2 drives (one contains all applications, the other has lightroom library). The raw files are on an external drive. Until today I've been using version 3.5. I upgraded to 3.6, hoping that maybe this will fix this, but no luck.

How I can restore references to the images in my library?

Lightroom :: 4.3 - Import XML Files To Restore Edits?

Mar 26, 2013

So I recently switched to a PC from a Mac.  I actually prefer Windows 8 to all other OS's, I know I'm in the minority, but that's what I like.  My question is this:  When I imported my catalogs from my Mac to my PC all imported fine with all files showing correctly and all images showing a history of edits etc.  However for whatever reason one wedding I shot didn't make it in.  The files are there along with the sidecar files.  So I tried to import that folder into the catalog and it did.  However it didn't import the sidecar files and all my previous edits are now not showing.

How do I import these XML files so that my edits are restored?  I see no option at the import screen to inlcude or not include XML files.  Are my edits lost forever or can they be saved?

FYI: I'm using Lightroom 4.3

Lightroom :: Should Restore Catalogue From Previous Backup

Jun 18, 2012

I just managed to crash LR (4.1) big time, resulting in a BSOD and immediate Windows shutdown. What triggered this: both LR and my PC are usually very reliable, and in fact my PC has never before blue screened on me. At the time, LR was building a collection.

I re-booted and checked over my catalogue in LR, focusing on the images I'd been working on prior to the crash (all in the same folder on my HD). I see no obvious corruption with the images I was working on; in fact LR even managed to complete the collection. I allowed it to check the catalogue integrity and it found no issues. However I now have a nagging doubt that perhaps I'm overlooking something... Do you think it might be worth my while to restore from a previous backup, just to be sure no corruption has managed to rear its head in my catalogue, or do you think that, based on the lack of any warning signs, I should be OK?

This raises another related question: how do you know that a catalogue is corrupted at all? Does LR give you any warning/error message?

Lightroom :: Restore Photos And Catalog Together On New Computer?

Nov 2, 2013

I recently had a computer crash and want to migrate my photos and changes from my old hard drive into my newly installed Lightroom software on the new computer.  I recovered the old drive, and accessed it from my new computer.  I found the most recent Lightroom catalog and imported it.  Then I imported all of my photos into Lightroom.  The problem is that the catalog and the photos don't seem to be talking to each other.  In the catalog, the photos are there all bunched together, no folders separating by date.  In the photo folders that ARE separated by date, the original photos are there as they were first imported (RAW files), but don't have the develop changes that I made to them.  How can I get these two things to link up?

Lightroom :: Restore Images And Collections Back To 4?

Dec 31, 2012

I seem to have a corrupted version of LR4 and the Adobe tech in India got on my computer remotely and really screwed me up even worse.  He seemed to reset the default system and removed the plist (which I have on my desktop) but the LR version now is showing up as it was 6 months ago and I am missing many images, collections etc.  His answer was " Well just re import the images and sorry I don't know MAC".

I have a mac and am not sure where to restore them from in Time Machine or if I put the plist back that will fix the problem. I do not back up in LR since is creates duplicate files which take up way too much space when you have over 50k images.
