View 1 Repliesis there a way in LR (or bridge) to filter all images that are saved as 16 bit images.
i noticed i have a lot of scanned photos/slides that don´t need to be in 16 bit TIFF format.8 bit is enough for them and would save me a ton of HDD space (even when most of them are LZW compressed).
but i need a way to find them in my 80000 images database.so that i can make a further selection which of these 16 bit images i can convert to 8 bit.
When I export RAW files, specifying that I want the output to be in sRGB color space the resulting files have the Adobe RGB color space. The same is true if I specify I want them in ProPhoto. Is this a bug? I have done it successfully in other versions of Lightroom, but not in 4.3.
View 21 Replies View RelatedI just built a new workstation PC, but since the motherboard has built in DVI, HDMI and Displayport outputs, I decided to wait with buying a dedicated GPU. The motherboard will use the intergrated graphics in the CPU instead. I will at some point buy a GPU, but mainly because I also play games on occasion.
However, now when I look at my images, they don't look as good as on my old computer with a dedicated GPU. This is true especially in the shadows where it seems the bit depth is very low. I was under the impression that a dedicated GPU won't have any impact on image quality other than for 3D rendering, games etc. Do I need set the bit depth somewhere? Maybe it's a driver thing?
My new system specs are as follows:
Intel i7-4770K
Asus Z87-Pro motherboard
32GB RAM
500GB WD Velociraptor
WIndows 8.1
I'm trying to save a bunch of drawings as TIFFs. Some of them save in color, others do not. why some are not saving in color?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i used to draw a rectangle, circle, line, etc- a box (or several) boxes popped up after i clicked the first point. These let me enter the distance then hit the tab button and go to a second box to enter height or angle depending on what i was drawing. There was also some popups that showed up when clicking the chamfer or fillet buttons but now those are all gone. When i input numbers, it goes to the command bar.
How can i get those small popup windows to reappear in my modelspace?
I have 30.000 photos accumulated over the years, several are useless (too dark, too bright).I need to delete them.
How can I select all the images which are either too dark and/or too bright?
Mathematically this would be relatively straightforward: filter images where the majority of the pixels are black / white.
When I change my TIFFs to jpegs, the color and tone are changing as well.

View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen exporting a photo, does Lightroom convert to a profile or assign a profile? Because there is no way to choose. I tried to export a photo with 3 different color spaces (sRGB, AdobeRGB and ICC profile from laboratory where I print my photos). After exporting them to JPEG it turned out that all of them look differently on my monitor - does it mean that Lightroom assigns a profile? If it was converting, shouldn't they have the same colours? What is more, after printing them in laboratory, results were completely different than I expected - the photo which had closest colours to what I saw in Lightroom was that in sRGB, but that with ICC of Lab was very different (much colder colours).
Where is the problem, or what aspect do I seem to misunderstand? Do I have wrong settings, should I use DNG to work with photos, should I export to TIFF, or I just have too weak monitor or wrongly calibrated one? Should I calibrate when viewing a picture in Lightroom or with the use of a photo exported to the ICC profile of Lab?
I would like to have a little bit of control over what I'm working on, depending on whether I want to publish it on a website or print. I know that my monitor can be a problem (I have an iiyama with IPS), but surely there has to be any way to make results of my work a bit closer to my expectations.
Just for information, my workflow doesn't require Photoshop, as I rather prefer to use only tools from Lightroom. I hope that my problem doesn't require the use of Photoshop.
why Light-room was set up to use the ProPhoto RBG Color Space?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSuppose I have an image in Lightroom. I export it to Photoshop for editing. During the editing process I convert the image to Lab color space. I complete the edit and then save the file. It goes back to Lightroom. Is it converted back into RGB at that point? Is there a problem with doing this? I'd rather not do any more color space shifting than I absolutely need to.

View 10 Replies View RelatedAfter reading many webpages and watching many tutorial videos about which color space to use, I get odd results. I understand that sRGB is more for web applications, and that Adobe RGB 1998 has a wider gamut, and that ProPhoto has the widest gamut of colors, particularly useful with printing.
However, in LR 4, when I export to jpeg as sRGB, Adobe RGB, and ProPhoto, the differences are very noticeable. sRGB looks the most vibrant, Adobe RGB looks flat, and ProPhoto looks dark with a greenish cast. I expected ProPhoto to look best, or is that only for printing, and I have to process differently?
A friend of mine asked me if a could find a quality pic (intenet) of some gold bars. I searched iStockPhoto and downloaded one .eps file whitch I wasn't too happy with. Then I searched Google (large images) without a result. In desperation I searched Microsoft Office Clipart and found something (.jpg) I might be able to improve. I've used PS7 for some time but with this 8 bit image I feel "blocked" on where to start making the image looking more natural colourwise. Could someone please put me on the right track? Thank you. The document "IMG_9082.CR2"has an embedded color profile that does not match the current RGB working space.
Embedded: Adobe RGB (1998)
Working sRGB IEC61966-2.1
What would you like to do?
-Use the embedded profiel (instead of the working space)
-Convert documents's colors to the working space
-Discard the embedded profile (don't color manage)
My camera's settings have it set with sRGB, LR4 and LR5 have sRGB and I have CS5 workspace as sRGB. This did not happen before.
Is it possible that when LR5 updated the LR4 catalogue, it changed the profile of all my photos? I don't know, maybe I've done something, but I can't see what as I don't remember changing anything.
I get this annoying problem with color banding when i export 16bits TIFFs ProPhoto RGB (with no compression) from Lightroom to Photoshop CC. Both LR and PS working space is set to ProPhoto RGB color space. Miraculously, the banding disappears when i convert to Adobe RGB or sRGB.
There's no banding in Lightroom, only in Photoshop. I have encountered others with the same problem, but no one have come up with a solution.

i would like to know how to know an image color depth and how to change it ;(jpeg file)
The color space on the selected images appears to be changing when I use the Lightroom flash gallery in the web module of LR4.1. This stays the same when the gallery is uploaded. In previous version of LR I have seen color changes in the web module but they have been corrected (and correct) when the gallery is uploaded to the 'net.
I have read that this was (previously) a problem with the flash gallery specifically becuase it was not colour magaded, but I understood that this had been corrected for LR4. As far as my use is concerned it's actually more problematic now than it has been previously.
I shot loads of images as jpegs as requested. Now the customers says actually I'll need them in TIFF!! As the shoot went on I exported the images to 34 folders with 56 subfolders containing 751 jpeg images. I now need to supply exactly the same but with TIFFs. Now I still have the raw files in my C: and it would be lovely to simply re-import them and export them as TIFFs but without looking at every single raw file and finding where ever the corrosponing jpeg is I have no way of exporting the new TIFFs to sit alongside their jpeg counterparts, if you see what I mean? Is there anyway I can utilise/batch process the raw files and export them to right folders as TIFFs?
View 12 Replies View Related-I'm using LR 4.3 on a windows 7 x64 PC.
-I use one catalogue for each wedding/event/shoot.
-I import all my images as CR2 or DNG and work with these files in LR and Photoshop CS6.
-Once I complete the edits on a wedding, I'm left with , for example, 300 16-bit Uncompressed Tiff images in around a dozen different folders (I shoot big 600 pax + weddings sometimes).
-I want to: Re-save/Overwrite all these images as 8-bit Tiff images with ZIP compression.How can I do this?
-I've tried selecting all the images and Exporting them as 8 bit Zip Tiffs with the Overwrite Originals Without Warning tab selected. However I get the error that the file already exists and LR can do nothing about this.
-I've tried creating an Action in Photoshop but this poses two problems:
1) The photos are spread over multiple folders and selecting each one through File>Batch>Automate means the process requires manual intervention to reselect the next folder's tiffs - I want to hit the action, go eat lunch and come back to find them ALL saved.
2) The action acts outside of LR and I'd rather like to avoid 'metadata has been changed externally' errors although this isn't much of a biggie.
Why not just save the images as Zip Tiffs to begin with? I use a number of freelance retouchers , many of whom complain that the process of compressing slows their initial workflow (slower hardware).
(and yes - the space saved is considerable, where I live memory is still not quite cheap!)

View 9 Replies View RelatedLightroom 4.3 is still experiencing slight tonal shifts when creating TIFF copies. This happens when I export to PS6 from LR, or create a TIFF copy of a TIFF file edited in PS6.I can provide samples.
I run LR4.3 on a Windows 7 64bit OS; 8 GB of RAM; AMD 9750 Quad Core Processor; NVIDIA Quadro 600 Video card.
I have 60-something 24 bit PNG images that I've edited in Gimp, many of them include transparency. I want to batch convert them to 256 colors while keeping the transparency. Can this be done? I did try it in another editor and any attempt to keep the alpha channel transparency resulted in totally washed out colors and transparency where none should exist. Conversely, if I skipped the transparency the color depth reduction went well.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhenever I send a pic from Lightroom to an external editor, an "intermediate" tiff is saved in the original location and put in the catalogue. This is not only useless, because all Lightroom edits are stored in the sidecar but also a nuisance, as it causes a congestion on my HD.
I want to keep my "originals" directory clean and store all "edited" files in their own folder structue. I wouldn't have bothered asking, had I not come across a Photoshop plug-in MetaRaw [URL] that converts Raw-files that older versions of PS don't support to tiff and opens them in CameraRaw or PS directly. In the settings dialogue of that plug-in you can decide whether the tiff gets deleted upon opening in PS, upon closing the program or remains in the cache.
LR 4.3, Windows 7. I've started using Snapshots as a convenient way to capture in-process images. But, I can't find a couple things I'm sure HAVE to be in here somewhere...
1. The "generate virtual copies from all the snapshots of this image" button
2. The "export all the snapshots to jpgs or tiffs or whatever" button
I have many PSD files from photoshop – with layers, masks, adjustment layers, nested groups, smart filters, layer styles and editable text at 600dpi with embedded color profiles. The idea is to import them all into lightroom and make a book.
Should I flatten the files and make them into tiffs or jpegs?
Does it make sense to keep them at 600dpi or Blurb will downsample them to 300 anyway? (if so I would rather do it myself, if not is there an option to control the output resolution?) What happens to color? – How do I ensure the best match between what I see on the screen and what the book will look like?

What is the best color depth (8/16/32 bits/channel) for this roll-up banner when working on 100% of the original size: 1260x2120 mm? Other tips and tricks for future designs concerning color depth?
