my workflow is to copy all photos from my camera to a folder that is configured for auto import.Lightroom takes these pics and import them to the library. But it does not exclude duplicate photos. If I copy the same photos to the auto import folder again, LR imports all photos again.
Why can't I configure to exclude duplicates as it works with the manual import function?
Have Windows 7, 64 bit, LR3..On Import Dialog Screen it shows on right panel...File Handling.Don't Import Suspected Duplicates.Make a Second copy to.
File Renaming.Apply during Import...... but Destination Panel has disappeared.Did a lot of renaming lately with presets but don't know or this is related or not.
1. Shoot. 2. Clean the junk pictures off the card with Nikon ViewNX, I keep MAYBE 1 in 50 shots. 3. Import to LR 3.4.1 4. Repeat.
On the second import, the pictures from the first import are normally flagged as suspected duplicates. Occasionally, one will not be flagged as a suspected dupe. I suspect that this is because on a subsequent ViewNX pass I accidently changed the number of stars or some such on that image. Is there some way to reinstate "suspected duplicate" status? Or to put it another way, what determines suspected duplicate status?
I leave the good pictures on the card as a back up (I do have other backups -- the laptop backs up daily to the NAS when I'm home, and I have LR make a copy to another CF card on import. But you can't have enough backups.
After import from CF card, then next import with "don't import suspected duplicates'' checked, failed many times. You must close and reopen the import window, repeating the operation (one or two times) to make it work properly.
I can import a card, eject the card, plug the card back in and Lightroom STILL wants to import the photos it just imported. Of course the checkbox for "Don't import suspected duplicates" is ticked.
I have a catalog and images on my laptop. I have created another catalog that I want to merge with this one. It includes some duplicate images and thats fine. I want the images, keywords and folder structure from the new catalog to merge with the existing one for teaching purposes.
Lightroom wont let me Merge and include the duplicates.
I recently imported the camera roll (not the photostream) off my iPhone 5 into Lightroom. The filename appears as the number of the image (eg. IMG 6438); I want to import photos also taken with the same iPhone that had been uploaded to my MAC desktop (because they include photos not currently on the camera roll) but they have assumed a different filename (eg. 2013-06-27 14.40.16.jpg). I have checked off "Do not import duplicates" (and am not renaming upon import) but LR is not recognizing them (the identical photo) as such and weeding out the ones I actually don't have in my library is becoming increasingly problematic..
When importing photos into Lightroom 5, the option "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" doesn't work every time. Even though I've imported some photos from the memory card, when I do another Import, all of the photos have been checked for importing including already Imported ones even though I have the "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" option checked. Why is this?
LR4.2 and "Do not import selected duplicates" does not always work. Running a Mac, 10.6.8, I am cleaning up hard drives, organizing old files. There are times lightroom 4.2 (and before) does not recognize already imported raws and does not gray them out. These are backed up cards and folders of of raw images. Why is the "do not import selected duplicates" check box not working???!!!
I'm using LR4 with a Canon camera setup (Wind 7 Ultimate). I've got the auto import setting all configured with an incoming folder and destination. The app recognizes when an image is put in incoming folder and in fact it moves it to the destination folder. What is really annoying is that it leaves me at the import settings dialog and then I have to make all these choices as I would if I were manually importing.
Shouldn't the images be places in the desination folder and some view of that image be displayed in LR? It could be the folder view or ideally I want to see the last image imported at 1:1 size so I can review it and see if I want to take another shot? Maybe there is some flag I've got set incorrectly.
I use Auto Import to import my RAW files. Each time LR imports my files the Previous Import count number increases. Is there a way to reset this count so it shows a true reflection of the photos from my previous import session?
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you manually import files the Previous Import count number resets itself automatically. I've Googled this problem & this question has been asked before - all users were utilising Auto Import.
This seems to have been a problem with previous lightrooms and thought it may have been fixed in LR4 but I can't seem to find the option?
What I have a gripe with is why when I am exporting my editied raws into what ever jpeg format I want (highres low res etc) I put these in a folder with in the orgional raws parent folder and call it "02 - High_Res" for example. To then get this to show in the lightroom folder structure you then have to 'sync' the folder. Is there a way to have this done automatically? Is there a way I can just get it to appear with out syncing?
I uncheck "Show import dialog when a memory card is detected" under Edit - preferences - Import. However, it rechecks itself when I close lightroom down. Then whenever I put in a storage device -- a memory card, external hard drive, flash drive, etc -- Lightroom starts up and wants to import from that device.
Since I upgraded to Lightroom 4.1 from 3 the Import Dialog screen will not auto open when I insert a memory Cart to my Imac. I have the correct box ticked in the preferences.
Just got lightroom 3 for Christmas. I cannot figure it out and it's a headache so far. How am I supposed to set up the auto import to the My Pictures folder when I am supposed to chose an empty folder for Lightroom to watch? I must be misunderstanding something because I imagine that everyone who buys Lightroom already has photos in their My Pictures folder.
I'm seeing a problem in just some of my Lightroom 4 (version 4.3, latest updates as of today) catalogs where auto import just stops working. There are no error messages and Lightroom continues to work, but files in the watched folder just don't get imported. I've optimized the catalog, restarted Lightroom, double checked that auto import is on, restarted my mac (mac book pro running 10.7.5), imported all the photos into a new catalog... still no joy. Also worth noting is that the other import options are greyed out if auto import is on when I start Lightroom for these broken catalogs... but if I turn off auto import, and restart Lightroom, the import photos and videos is enabled and I can import the files from the watch folder manually.
I've just inherited a 500GB HDD from my Dad and I'd love to be able to work all his photos through LR, although there's no way I'm sitting there and importing each and every directory!
As Google Picasa can be told to monitor a directory (eg My Pictures) and each time a new directory or directories are added, on startup it scans for and locates these new dirs and imports the pictures.
Can LR3 be set up to do this please as it would save me hours if I could just leave it overnight to import all of his pics straight into LR.
I'm using LR 4.3 on Windows 7, 64-bit. It seems to work pretty well in Library and Develop and such, so I don't think there's a performance issue...
When I do a synchronize on a folder (may be 500 files or as few as 20), new files don't show up to be imported. I can look at the folder and SEE the file. It's there. But, it's NOT in the library grid. Synchronize does NOT see the file. If I do an import (separate from Synchronize), the file usually shows up. The file I can't see in the library shows up in the list with a checkmark, so it KNOWS it's not been imported. At that point, I can go ahead and tell LR to add them and it's fine.
ALSO, when I add a keyword to a new file, it doesn't show up when I open the files for that keyword. For example, I take a .dng file edit it, then finish in Photoshop. Saving the file in Photoshop gets it back to LR. I can see it in the files in Develop. I can see it in the Library grid. But it ISN'T in the keyword set. Even if I ADD the keyword AGAIN, it STILL doesn't show up in the files for that keyword. If I shut down Lightroom and restart it, THEN the file shows up in the keyword set. Is there some "auto-update" setting I've messed up?
I'm trying to import images shot on a Canon 650d using two different lenses, the (according to EXIF displayed by LR) "EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II" (kit) lens and an "EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II". Both lenses and the camera should be newly supported with this RC.
When I go to develop module and tick "activate lens corrections" (translating, I'm using the German version) nothing happens. No corrections are applied. I need to additionally change "Manufacturer" from "none" to "Canon", then the right lens is automatically found and the settings are applied.
However, if I save this as an import-standard (press Alt+"set standard"), just this lens is remembered: All imported images get corrected using the last selected lens profile. So if I manually correct an image taken on the 18-55mm lens and save this as default, at the next import all images, including those taken on the 55-250mm lens, get corrected using the 18-55mm profile (at least, that's what LR is showing me.)
It was my understanding that the import preset should be specific not only to the camera, but also to the lens the respective image was shot with.
I shot using an eye-fi card. The card autmatically generates a xmp file with geodata in it. LR auto imports these images and adds lens correction and a copy right tag.
What I can't do is automatically is get LR to read the xmp file and include this in the catalogue. I am having to right click images and select read metadata from file.
I have no import presets created (verified by the import screen saying "none" when importing), yet LR adds one (the same one) keyword to all photos imported. I have 4.1, but this has been happening in previous versions. How to stop this?? It is very time consuming to always have to remove this keyword.
I am trying to set up auto importing by tethered shooting with a Canon 1Ds (but don't think brand and camera matter.)
I never use DNG, and am not aware of, and after a lot of searching, cannot find anywhere in the LR4.3 preferences at which I specified DNG conversion. In the Auto0Import dialog there is a File-handling tab that offers one choice: how to spell the dng suffix. The files I want to import will come in as CR2., and testing this with other folder destinations and with Canon's EOS Utility prove that the camera is "sending" CR2 files.
I just upgraded to LR 4.0 and the identify duplicate function does not appear to be identifing duplicates.
I was cleaning off cards and wanted to make sure all the photos had been added to the catalog when I realized that photos which have been imported, will reimport.
The "don't import suspected duplicates" box is checked. I verified one photo, _img_2597.cr2 , was both on the card and in the catalog. LR4 re-imported it - putting a duplicate in the catalog.
I then added some new photos to the catalog and then tried to re-load them: the detection of duplicates worked. It apears that photos from the 3.6 catalog are the issue.
I have:
rebooted the system opened up a backup catalog synchronize folders
Yes, I'm probably the only person on the planet that wants this, but I liked how the Auto Tone auto adjusted the Exposure slider (ONLY!) and left all the other sliders at zero in the Lightroom 4 beta.
Is there a way to write a preset that returns that behavior?
I'm using Lightroom 5.3. I'm importing images to my catalog from one external drive to another using the "copy" function. I have "do not import suspected duplicates" checked, but Lightroom does not identify duplicate jpg images as such and lists them as new files to import. If I import these images they show up in my database/catalog with the -2 designation. The images are identical in filename, capture time, size and EXIF info. I have tried removing my preferences file and starting another but that doesn't change the behavior. I have seen other posts with similar issues but cannot find a solution that works for me. I don't see this listed as a bug either.
