Lightroom :: Unable To Import Suspected Duplicates?
Oct 11, 2012
After import from CF card, then next import with "don't import suspected duplicates'' checked, failed many times. You must close and reopen the import window, repeating the operation (one or two times) to make it work properly.
Have Windows 7, 64 bit, LR3..On Import Dialog Screen it shows on right panel...File Handling.Don't Import Suspected Duplicates.Make a Second copy to.
File Renaming.Apply during Import...... but Destination Panel has disappeared.Did a lot of renaming lately with presets but don't know or this is related or not.
1. Shoot. 2. Clean the junk pictures off the card with Nikon ViewNX, I keep MAYBE 1 in 50 shots. 3. Import to LR 3.4.1 4. Repeat.
On the second import, the pictures from the first import are normally flagged as suspected duplicates. Occasionally, one will not be flagged as a suspected dupe. I suspect that this is because on a subsequent ViewNX pass I accidently changed the number of stars or some such on that image. Is there some way to reinstate "suspected duplicate" status? Or to put it another way, what determines suspected duplicate status?
I leave the good pictures on the card as a back up (I do have other backups -- the laptop backs up daily to the NAS when I'm home, and I have LR make a copy to another CF card on import. But you can't have enough backups.
I can import a card, eject the card, plug the card back in and Lightroom STILL wants to import the photos it just imported. Of course the checkbox for "Don't import suspected duplicates" is ticked.
When importing photos into Lightroom 5, the option "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" doesn't work every time. Even though I've imported some photos from the memory card, when I do another Import, all of the photos have been checked for importing including already Imported ones even though I have the "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" option checked. Why is this?
Scenario: I'm out in the field filling memory cards and reviewing them on my secondary PC (laptop), marking & editing various images at night. I do not manage to import all of the photos off of all of my cards (and can't due to disk space requirements). I want to keep the edits and work (and images, due to running out of cards I formated some of them that I _knew_ were in the LR catalogue AND backed up onto other devices).
I get home to my primary PC and export the laptop catalouge and then import it, WIN. I start importing images from cards that ARE NOT IN THE CATALOUGE, also WIN. I put in a card that has AT LEAST _SOME_ (but not necessarily all) images in the exported catalouge. Lightroom FAILS to notice that images that were imported FROM THE SAME CARD into the Laptop & Desktop with THE SAME CATALOUGE are duplicates!
What I want to do is to BE SURE that all of my images are in my primary/desktop catalouge WITHOUT dupes. I want to insert the memory card and have LR import ONLY THE ONES IT DOES NOT ALREADY have. This seems like somehting LR should automagically support, but apparently not. How do I accomplish what I want to do without doing something rediculous like importing everything regardless, then buying a de-duping tool, deleting the duplicate images using file system tools, then removing the not found images manually from LR?
I recently imported the camera roll (not the photostream) off my iPhone 5 into Lightroom. The filename appears as the number of the image (eg. IMG 6438); I want to import photos also taken with the same iPhone that had been uploaded to my MAC desktop (because they include photos not currently on the camera roll) but they have assumed a different filename (eg. 2013-06-27 14.40.16.jpg). I have checked off "Do not import duplicates" (and am not renaming upon import) but LR is not recognizing them (the identical photo) as such and weeding out the ones I actually don't have in my library is becoming increasingly problematic..
my workflow is to copy all photos from my camera to a folder that is configured for auto import.Lightroom takes these pics and import them to the library. But it does not exclude duplicate photos. If I copy the same photos to the auto import folder again, LR imports all photos again.
Why can't I configure to exclude duplicates as it works with the manual import function?
I have a catalog and images on my laptop. I have created another catalog that I want to merge with this one. It includes some duplicate images and thats fine. I want the images, keywords and folder structure from the new catalog to merge with the existing one for teaching purposes.
Lightroom wont let me Merge and include the duplicates.
LR4.2 and "Do not import selected duplicates" does not always work. Running a Mac, 10.6.8, I am cleaning up hard drives, organizing old files. There are times lightroom 4.2 (and before) does not recognize already imported raws and does not gray them out. These are backed up cards and folders of of raw images. Why is the "do not import selected duplicates" check box not working???!!!
needed larger HD and did a clean install of windows 7 after doing a search of my original HD for all PSD/CR2 images> then doing the "drag drop" technique of copying/backing-up those images to another external and an internal HD.
Then did the instillation of that larger "C" HD and clean install of windows 7>copied those images into one newly created folder on that drive>installed CS6 and LR 4.1 and...LR can't/will not recognize and import more than 500 out of 14,000 PSD/CS2 images.
I am able to access those images via windows explorer and open them into CS6 without difficulity. I have done a couple un/reinstall of LR.Every one of those images is located within one folder and no images anywhere else on the "C" drive. I still have the original back-ups in two places. I have watched the videos on importing images.
I've got a fully updated version of Lightroom 3.6 and I haven't been able to import a single file in several months although I had no problems with Lightroom 3 (installed May 2011). I'm on a PC with Windows 7 (ver6.1).
When I try to import it says "the following files were not imported because they could not be read".
I'm importing jpg files and it fails if I try to import from: my camera (worked previously), my memory card reader, my hard drive, an external drive.
I've tried importing copies of photos Lightroom previously imported and recognized and new photos its never seen before. I've tried importing photos taken on my Canon Powershot SX100IS, my Nikon L120, and my cameraphone. It fails on everything with "the following files were not imported because they could not be read" error.
I am unable to import photos into Lightoom 4.4 on Macbook Pro running on Mountain Lion. I tired importing photos directly from the sdcard, both via the inbuild reader & and external USB reader. Import fails in both cases. I then tired copying the files to desktop, import fails with move option too. But when i use the add option, the import works fine.
When I try to import presets in LR3/Develop, the template files are not visible to select even though they are definitely listed where I stored them on my computer. I recently upgraded my computer and am now using Window 7 instead of Windows XP. Neither new downloads nor old downloads are visible. Why doesn't LR recognize them? Does 64-bit vs 32-bit make a difference?
I have just installed LR3 on my new computer and is unable to upload my photographs. I have change permissions as suggested in other forums, it recognises my Nikon D3 and shows the pictures but when I try to import I get the following message "the following files were not imported because they could not be read" I have LR3 on my laptop and it works fine.
I recently purchased Lightroom 5 and have updated to 5.2. I did my first import from a file folder to the catologue. I noticed that all my .awr files imported and any edited .jpg imported, but the original .jpg would not import if there was a corresponding .awr file. I'm not sure how to fix this. I would like all my photos imported.
I am unable to import NEF files into the new Lightroom 5.3, I recieve the following error message: "The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. (251)" and then each .NEF file is listed separately. I am using the latest and most updated Lightroom software and a Nikon 3300. I get this message if I try to import directly from the SD card or if I try to import from the desktop (after copying the SD card contents onto my desktop). I also am unable to import directly from the camera. I'm using a promaster performance 32GG SD card that I formated in the Nikon 3300 before I started shooting. I took three pictures that were just JPGs on the card and these improt okay using any mechanism. All the other photos were taking RAW+JPG.
I am trying to upload my pictures into lightroom5 and it won't upload my files.. I keep getting this.. "The following files were not imported because they can't be read.. I just got lightroom a few days ago and it was working fine......
I have been unable to import images into Lightroom 5.2 and 5.3 for the past several days. Worked fine before. There have been similar discussions on this topic, but none identical. When I try to import from a cf card, no images show up to import. In the import dialog, if I click on other source and navigate through directories on my hdd, all the images are greyed out. This is true even for images that are not in my catalog. I have tried creating a brand new catalog with the same results on import. I have deleted all the preferences files. I upgraded from 5.2 to 5.3 and that did not fix the problem. I do not have the original dmg for Lightroom so am unable to try a complete re-installation.
I am trying to import photos from my compact flash disc (which I use in my camera) to Lightroom3 on my Mac. The files are .jpg files. The message that I get is that the files cannot be read. But I am able to import them to iPhoto, Photoshop Elements on my PC, etc. I contacted support and chatted with three different people. I uninstalled Lightroom 3.6 and re-installed 3.5 - that didn't work. So the next guy had me re-install 3.6 and update the Camera RAW version to 6.6, that didn't work.
I am suddenly unable to import my images using LR4. Each night I download my cards using a card reader using LR4. I use a card reader and copy and convert to DNG. Suddenly tonight I keep getting a message that my files were not copied because they can't be read. I have tried using multiple cards, have used different readers. None of it makes a difference. I simply can't move my images off my cards anymore.
The only thing different I did yesterday, and I'm not sure if it made a difference, was to create a new destination folder by right clicking on my list on the right of the screen. I did two different sessions yesterday and I wanted the images in different folders. I right clicked on the folder from my first download, select create a new folder, and imported there. Those images downloaded but I can't do anymore.
I have no clue where to start in troubleshooting this. I thought it was the card, but none of my cards work. I thought it was the card reader, but my brand new one won't work.I am thinking it is something within LR.
When importing I use the "Copy as DNG" feature and that works just fine for the RAW impages.
I then switch to the "Copy" feature to copy some JPG imsages taken with another camera and they are not copied. The information in the window is "Cound not copy a file to the requested location" and lists all files I tried to import. If I copy the files manually into the folders/locations that Lightroom should have done, the "Add" fearire works just fine.
I am just puzzled as to why Lightroom cannot copy the files to the folders that are there and add the image to the catalog on its own. Converting RAW to DNG works fine so what needs to be done to allow Copy to do the same thing.
i just bought canon d70 i have camera set for raw and jpeg, lightroom 4 updated and set to treat jpegs seperatly, but it isnt seeing my cr2, it knows its there but says preview not available unable to import this file type
I'm operating on an iMac, OS 10.9, brand new, lots of RAM etc. I've confirmed with Apple that my computer and ext HDs are working fine. That said, using LR5.2 I'm unable to import, even a single image. I'vre tried rebooting LR, rebooting the external HD, rebooting the computer. Nothing works.
I have recently downloaded the latest Lightroom 4 update to my mac, which is Lightroom 4.3 and now I am unable to import any images into my catalogues.
I am unable to import NEF files from a d7000 into LR 4.3, but can import them into LR 3.6 without issue. What do I need to change in LR 4? It's running on a Mac and latest updates are installed.
I am now unable to import any Raw or jpegs images into Lightroom. I have un-installed Lightroom 4 and then re-installed Lightroom 5 and still no luck. When I hit import I get a message that says "Unble to import a file to the requested location"
