Jun 13, 2013I've got two large catalogs (one business, one personal) that work perfectly fine in LR4.4, but when I try to upgrade them to LR5 I get the error, "Lightroom couldn't update the format of its catalog file because the file appears to be damaged."
The catalogs sure don't seem damaged as they work perfectly in LR4.4. I've been able to update a few small single-shoot catalogs, is this a known problem with updating large catalogs (65k photos in one, 180k in the other)?
Lightroom :: Unable To Display Preview Images During Import Of Raw Images?
Mar 25, 2011Lightroom will not display preview images during import of raw images. Any images in other formats display fine but with raw images I get a gray window the size of the preview image and the words "preview unavailable for this file".
Running Windows XP 64, Lightroom 3.3.
Lightroom :: Moving Catalogues From One External HD To Another - Images Are Missing?
Jul 24, 2013I had to move my cataolgs from one external HD to another, but when I open a catalog the images are missing. I know my original images are stored in one place and the catalog is stored in another. Shouldn't the images be found if they are all on the same HD?

Dec 21, 2013I have been unable to import images into Lightroom 5.2 and 5.3 for the past several days. Worked fine before. There have been similar discussions on this topic, but none identical. When I try to import from a cf card, no images show up to import. In the import dialog, if I click on other source and navigate through directories on my hdd, all the images are greyed out. This is true even for images that are not in my catalog. I have tried creating a brand new catalog with the same results on import. I have deleted all the preferences files. I upgraded from 5.2 to 5.3 and that did not fix the problem. I do not have the original dmg for Lightroom so am unable to try a complete re-installation.

Apr 13, 2013I have been importing and editing photos from a Canon Powershot S3-IS and never had a problem until today. This is the first time I've tried it with the latest upgrade to lightroom.
I first tried importing from my camera memory card slot. Lightroom froze. Then I tried using my card reader and inserting that in the USB slot. Lightroom froze. I tried to connect the camera directly to the computer with the USB cord. Lightroom told me that it could not import the files.
I tried importing the images to my computer and then from my hard drive copying them into Lightroom. That worked. Is the camera too old to use with the latest update from Lightroom. I would think a jpg. file would be pretty standard. how to import to Lightroom without the extra step?

Lightroom :: Unable To Read Images When Try Complete Import?
Feb 2, 2013I am a Canon shooter and a seasoned Lightroom user. About a month ago my Mac stopped allowing me to import images from my CF card into Lightroom. I have worked with Mac and Adobe to no avail. At this point I know that my Mac can see the card and will me allow me to download images into iPhoto. It will generate thumbnails in Lightroom, but will tell me that it's unable to read the images when I try a complete import. If I switch users on my Mac to a dummy user, I am able to import the same images off my CF card. I didn't changed any settings, at least not intentionally.

The issue that occurs is after importing images they are adjusted automatically to develop module cross process 1. After dealing with this annoyance for a bit of time I realized that I can not even "RESET ALL" the images to delete the adjustment. In delving into other images that have been in my database for quite some time, I have tried to "RESET ALL", which resets images to CROSS PROCESS 1. I have never set import to automatically adjust.
Lightroom :: Import Images - Import Module Freezes For A Few Minutes?
Mar 13, 2012I just upgraded from LR3.6 to 4.0. When trying to import images the import module freezes for a few minutes and then displays the import screen. However, when selecting a source the program freezes again and eventually crashes.
I had the same issue when upgrading to 3.6 some time ago and then found that disabling some USB controllers solved the problem. This works for LR4 as well. As I don't need all USB connections this is a workable solution, however, disabling controllers should not be necessary to run a program.
System is an Acer Aspire 7811 64 bits w/ Intel i7, Win 7 Home Premium, 8 GB internal mem and no external drives.
Lightroom :: Why Doesn't Auto Import Actually Import Images Into Catalog
May 19, 2012I'm using LR4 with a Canon camera setup (Wind 7 Ultimate). I've got the auto import setting all configured with an incoming folder and destination. The app recognizes when an image is put in incoming folder and in fact it moves it to the destination folder. What is really annoying is that it leaves me at the import settings dialog and then I have to make all these choices as I would if I were manually importing.
Shouldn't the images be places in the desination folder and some view of that image be displayed in LR? It could be the folder view or ideally I want to see the last image imported at 1:1 size so I can review it and see if I want to take another shot? Maybe there is some flag I've got set incorrectly.

May 17, 2013I have just installed Lightroom 4 and want to get started by setting up more than one catalogue but I am not sure if you have to have one catalogue for every photo in addition to the separate catalogues I want for subsets of photos. Can I just go ahead and make several catalogues and sort my photos (which are on my hard drive) into them without making a catalogue that references every photo? Maybe it's a good idea to have one complete catalogue as well in order to make it easier to find that missing photo?Also I have read that it is a good idea to store catalogue files in a separate folder in the root, which appeals to my sense of organisation, but do I need to make separate sub-folders for my individual catalogues or can they just all go into the one folder? Sep 30, 2012i have all my raw photos (many1000's) and many lightroom 4 catalogs on my apple time capsule 2TB drive. my new mac book pro only has a 256GB solid state drive. but I have 16gb ram and quad core processor. I get an error message when I try to open a catalog complaining that I can't open catalogs on a network drive. all professional photographers can't possibly only use local drives. since network or external drives have existed for 20+ years, I don't get it. what am I doing wrong. very sad. have lots of work to do. i have the drive connect to my computer with a cat5 cable. it is also accessible wirelessly.
