For the past week, my LR5.3 has been hanging when I am importing pictures, adding pictures to the Library or Exporting timelapse. Does caching directory have anything to do with it? is there a way to test the issue?

I have all my images ordered by Date on an external NAS device.
So...
z:/photos/1999
.../2000
.../2001
......../2001/2001_01_01 New Years Day (for example).
I only started shooting in RAW this year. When I shoot in RAW, I have a subfolder called RAW. I then process the raws to JPG using Photoshop batch processor and place them in teh root of the folder.
So I will have a structure like :
2010_05_04
img_1.jpg
img_2.jpg
and then in 2010_05_04/RAW
img_1.cr2
img_2.cr2 .. etc.
I installed lightroom and went to import the pictures. I have (according to Picasa) 24,295 photos image files. these are all either JPG, RAW (cr2), or .AVI or .MOV. THe vast majority are images.
LIghtroom is hanging on 11,622.
I'm not sure why. It isn't even picking up certain date folders at all (like 2012, 2006, or 2007).
I tried cancelling the import process (hitting the X) and then starting again but it still continues to hang.
My ACAD hangs when I try to open/save. I've reinstalled the computer with only Op + ACAD. The second a explorer window opens, ACAD hangs. Tried different install options for 3 days now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been evalutating LR4 and am stuck on how to import my files from another DAM into LR4.
I am able to write XMP into JPG files, and provide sidecar XMP files for RAW (CR2) and MOV/MP4/MTS files, writing my hierarchical keyword information into the xmp-dc:Subject and xmp-lr:HierarchicalSubject fields.
LR4 seems to read the XMP keywords from the JPG and RAW files just fine and re-creates my keyword hierarchy.
LR4 seems to ignore on import the XMP for the non-image files such as the MOV/MP4/MTS files for which I have provided sidecar files.
LR4 also does not write out XMP files for the non-image files, when I use save Medatada.
Does LR4 just ignore import/writing XMP for these non-image files?
The whole program is very sluggish, but when I go to import photos, is freezes while acquiring the thumbnails. If it comes out of the freeze, when I click import, it takes 30 minutes to get one photo then freezes again. If I cancel and close the program, it will not start again unless I restart the computer.

Up until now I have been using ACDSee. Wanting to changeover to Lightroom, but need to make sure it can do the job with my existing data.
I'm using Coral Draw X5 and Sign Cut Pro with a Vinyl plotter and Im trying to import files into X5 and export them to Sign Cut. Which file formats should should I be using?

We don't use 3D commands at all and are looking into purchasing the LT version for budgeting reasons. What we are trying to find out now is if you can export and import SHP files from GIS ESRI software. Are you able to edit the SHP files if necessary?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've done quite a bit of research in the forums for a similar problem but not quite got any suitable answer. I'm running LR3.6 on WinXP SP3 with 4Gb RAM (3Gb useable). I'm trying to print 140 images setup on 7 pages each 16" x 24" JPEG size files (settings as below). Surely that should be a doodle? 2 hr+ later, I just have the "Preparing Print Job" progress bar doing nothing like it's expecting further input from me. No error messages, nothing, until I quit. Is there anything I should be watching out for? It's the first time I've tried to convert such a large collection to file and it's rather worrisome that I have these problems. case of "user error"

What I have a gripe with is why when I am exporting my editied raws into what ever jpeg format I want (highres low res etc) I put these in a folder with in the orgional raws parent folder and call it "02 - High_Res" for example. To then get this to show in the lightroom folder structure you then have to 'sync' the folder. Is there a way to have this done automatically? Is there a way I can just get it to appear with out syncing?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen metadata is saved in the underlying photo (whether JPG, DNG or side-car XMP) it would be very nice to include the Lightroom develop history states. This allows the photo and state to exist outside Lightroom or later be moved to a different catalog or different machine without the need to export/import catalogs themselves. It would also assist in rebuilding a catalog from scratch if the catalog were damaged but the underlying files were not.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have images that I export as a catalog from my notebook and external drive to my desktop . Did this all the time before the release candidate 4.1 without a hint of problems. With 4.1, it crashes 90% of the time....average export/import of a catalog I am running is about 3000 images. What is particularly wierd is that it crashes on multiples of 500. Normally first crash is at 500, the next at 1000 or 1500 and so forth.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am on a Windows 7, 64-bit machine running Lightroom 5. I am having problems running certain Publish Services and also while trying to import from another catalog. On Publish Services - I am able to publish to a remote desktop but not to my own network. I have also been seeing issues with publishing to SmugMug (since before they updated their site).
Similarly, I am trying to merge some catalogs and when I import from another catalog, the process seems to hang about halfway through (I left it running all night long - the catalog is large but not THAT large!). The process did bring in what seems like most files so I wonder what I am missing.
When trying to export RAW files to TIF files I get following Warning message:

An internal error has occured: Win32 API error 2 ("The system cannot find the file specified.") when calling ShellExecuteExW from AgWorkspace.shellExecute.
This happpens in LR 4 and I never had this problem in previuos version.
I believe that only exporting the smart collection settings is not enough. I have in my collections a hierarchy of collection set, collection and smart collection that works with my workflow:
-special [CS]
-- pano [SC]
-- fuse [SC]
-themes
-- holiday... [SC]
-- ...
- worklist [CS]
-- dominant color [CS]
--- dominant color to review [SC]
--- dominant color reviewed [C]
-- weather [CS]
etc.
-- geography [CS]

Being able to export the hierarchy from one specific node would be great when I switch from catalog to catalog. After all, smart collections content can be re-created.
I've seen that in the DB, there are these two tables that would need to be 'copied' : agLibraryCollection & agLibraryCollectionContent. Their IDs when importing in the new catalog would probably pose a problem if we were just to import them like that.
On the other hand, there are in the SDK some functions to go through the collections and some functions to create collections, collection-sets, smartCollections...
Would it be difficult to include such a functionality in a future release ?Would it be difficult or possible to write in the mean time a plugin that would do just that: import/export collection hierarchies ?
I am currently using a Nikon D7100 and recording my photos in the Raw/NEF-RAW format. Recently, whenever I am uploading my photos to Lightroom 5, my photos are changing to .dng files rather than staying in the NEF file. When I go and look back at my previous imports from the past few times, they are in NEF and NOT in .dng. Why is this doing this and how do I turn this feature off so that my files remain the same going from my camera to my computer through importation.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had problems with Photoshop CS6 freezing on me and giving me RAM and Scratch Disk alerts/warnings ever since I upgraded to Windows 8. This usually only happens when I work with large files, however once I work with a large file, I can't seem to work with any file at all that day.
Today however I have received my first error in which Photoshop says that it has stopped working. The log info is as follows:

I am trying to export some raw files to jpg and they continually won't export! I can try over and over, some will evidentually export but others won't.

View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I went to LR4 and tried to import RAW CR2 files into the program using the usual import process which is pretty automatic. I also asked that copies be saved as DNG files. No matter what I tried, I got an error message saying that the files could not be imported. I use a Canon 5D Mark III. The only difference in today's shoot was that I used and HDSC card instead of a CF card. No other obvious changes. Clearly, this is a serious concern. What amI missing?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am suddenly unable to import photo files from my computer directory into LR 4.3. I have imported thousands of photos previously, but now I get an error message "Could not copy a file to the requested location". I have seen comments elsewhere on forums which says that to solve this the "Destination" has to be set to "Pictures". I can't find anywhere to select "Pictures" in the Destination menu.
LR is now totally useless to me. How can you get to talk to an expert at Adobe? I just get sent round in circles and end up back on the forum every time!! This is urgent!
25/02/13 Solved this myself. Found after clicking on the arrow at the top right, I got a pull-down menu of recently used destination paths, and by ticking the one which showed "My Lightroom Photos/ Pictures" all was well. (My Lightroom Photos is my directory in which I keep all my photos).
