InDesign :: Placing Docx Files In CS4
Mar 1, 2014When I try to place a .docx file in InDesign CS4, nothing happens. I can work around this by changing the .docx file to an .rtf file, but it doens't seem like I should have to do this to place an MSWord text file.

Illustrator :: Placing AI Graphic In InDesign And Photoshop
Feb 1, 2013Having issues placing an Ai (eps) file in Photoshop and InDesign and retaining the original appearance. For some reason the graphic is inserting outlines arournd portions of the graphic, but only when placed. If I open in Ai and copy + paste into Photoshop it looks fine. Copy + paste into Id however does not...
I've discovered I can re-create this appearance in Ai by selecting the image and clicking 'Object > Flatten Transparency'.
I've instered a screen capture below to give you an idea of what I mean. I think it has something to do with some of the 'Stylize' effects I'm using. There is a subtle drop shadow and feathered gradient in the graphic.
Lightroom :: Export Photos From V4 Before Placing In InDesign CS6?
May 6, 2013I'm doing a print photo book layout in InDesign using photos that I am processing in Lightroom 4 & Photoshop CS6. My question is, do I need to "File > Export" the files from Lightroom before placing them into InDesign? Or are the Lightroom final changes I make embedded in the .tif file?

Apr 18, 2014I made a box in Illustrator and Extruded and Beveled it. When I placed it to InDesgin it had lines all around the outside of the box. I also made some circuit looking lines in Illustrator then opened it in Photoshop and Beveled and Embossed it, when I placed it in InDesign all of the diagonal lines were blurry. The image was rasterized when I opened it in Photoshop but the resolution is 300 ppi. I have my settings in InDesign set to High Quality and I have tried exporting my file as a PDF but then imperfections are still there.

Oct 25, 2012I'm working on designs in Illustrator and preparing an InDesign document with all of the graphics in one file for the client to review. The artboards are set to the size of a pier sign that will be all wood, but there are left graphics on the wood that will be laser cut and these extend beyond the edge of the wood. When I place the separate artboards in InDesign, they are cropped to the edge and I'd like to show how the left graphics extend beyond it. I've tried different import options but none of them show beyond the trim. (Also, if it makes a difference, the artboard sizes are fairly large—about 60" wide)

Jan 28, 2014I have a layered vector drawing of an iMac. Sometimes I want to take a screen grab of a website I have created and place it within this vector to put on my website as part of my portfolio.
To do this I use the Apple screen grab command, then I shrink this very large png file and place it on the appropriate layer on my iMac vector illustration. The trouble is it looks terrible once it has been shrunk down to size. You can not read the text or the url properly...
I see websites all the time that have this type of thing and the image looks great. Any tips on how to do this?
FYI I'm working off a 27 inch mac screen, so my captured png image is always huge. The quality is getting lost when I reduce the size of the placed image in Illustrator.

Apr 20, 2013I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

Photoshop :: CS6 Insists On Placing 4Gb File On C Drive
Dec 19, 2012I have Windows 7 with CS6 13.0.1 x64 installed on my D drive because my C drive is a 60Gb SSD. I have my cache set up to use the D drive. In my setup for cache, I have the D drive listed first and it is checked. Below that my C drive is listed and is NOT checked.
Every time I bring up Photoshop, it impolitely places a ~4Gb file (Photoshop Tempxxxxxxxxx) in C:. Now normally I wouldn't mind this, however the drive is only 60Gb and contains the Windows 7 OS. This doesn't leave room for much else.
How can I tell Photoshop to put this file on my D drive?

But when I select a text file, it says it is an unsupported format. I'm assuming it has something to do with the extra options that come with importing a text document, specific for .txt and .doc for example.
For what it's worth I was working on an alternate method by read() ing in the contents of the .txt file and setting them equal to the contents of a textFrame, however it imported the text without carriage returns/newlines and I haven't been able to result that issue.

Aug 4, 2013I have imported an OAM file into the first page of an app I am making in InDesign. The OAM looks correct on load but once the animation begins it gets really big and all I see is a tiny portion of the animation.

Sep 24, 2013I am trying to create a lisp file to automate the placing of angular dimensions at all of the vertex's along a very long polyline. There are 500-600 nodes at least and we need the angle between the incoming and outgoing lines at every node.
Is there a way to automate this with a lisp file, or am i relegated to clicking 1800 times and waste 3-4 hours doing this?
We get these files quite often and this will be a huge benefit to us.

Feb 24, 2014Every time I try to package out a file in InDesign its gets about 3/4s of the way through and then shows the "Cannot copy necessary font(s)" dialog box. I have read on certain discussions it may be a font issue. When I remove ALL fonts from my computer font library and use only preset Adobe fonts, Arial Regular for example, it works fine, then as soon as I use a font say, Helvetica Neue Light, I get the error. I have only recently upgraded to CC and all of the existing fonts in my library have always worked fine and never been a problem when packaging... However due to the tests with different fonts, it seems to be a font issue and not a links/filename issue like other people have had.

Replacing the original endnotes (spanish) with the new file (english) destroys the original hyperlinks (superscript) references in the endnotes.
The new file that will replace the old endnotes is already isolated (and may be numbered) and has the same quantity.Could not insert sequenced hyperlinks codes or replace.

InDesign :: How To Export An Interactive PDF File Using CS6
Mar 1, 2014I have been trying to export an interactive PDF file using InDesign CS6. It exports fine, and all the content works except for the Folio Overlays I created. I created two Folio Overlays (one Pan & Zoom and one Scrollable Frame). The overlays work if I preview them from the Folio Overlays panel, but they do not work on the PDF document.
I am using File >> Export... to create the PDF document, and I am sure the PDF document is of the interactive type and not the print type. Am I exporting it incorrectly? Is there a specific step that I have missed somewhere? Do I need to create a Folio Build to make the Folio Overlays work?
When I mouse over the Folio Overlays, I get the crosshair cursor which only selects part of the image when I click and drag it.
