View 2 RepliesI am a lifetime user of Adobe products, everything always updated to the latest, but a little stumped by this one... I opened a new document for print, specifying cmyk color and now, when I try to choose a color and apply to an object it only comes out in grayscale. What am I not understanding? as this is a first for me. I've looked back into document set up but am missing what ever it is that will not allow me to display or show color in my document.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I have a psd / Png file on Photoshop that has text with no background (transparent), and I do a Place of that file into Illustrator, I get a white background in additiotion to the Text.
How do I stop the white background from placing withing the Illustrator? I have Illustrator CS3 and Photoshop CS3
I frequently place Photoshop files into Illustrator CS3 without issue.... the PS file places right into the file with transparent surroundings.
I just upgraded to CS5 and for some reason, I "Place" the Photoshop file, but nothing shows up in Illustrator. I must not have a preference set correctly.
how to place an image into illustrator via scripting with javascript, however I am having difficulties with text files. My code is:
var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
var Layer1 = myDoc.layers[0];
function getTextFile() {
return File.openDialog('Please select the text file to be imported:', undefined, undefined);
}
var myTextfile = getTextFile();
var myPlacedFile = Layer1.placedItems.add();
myPlacedFile.file = myTextfile;
But when I select a text file, it says it is an unsupported format. I'm assuming it has something to do with the extra options that come with importing a text document, specific for .txt and .doc for example.
For what it's worth I was working on an alternate method by read() ing in the contents of the .txt file and setting them equal to the contents of a textFrame, however it imported the text without carriage returns/newlines and I haven't been able to result that issue.
my printing house said I sent him a RGB file and he needs CMYK for printing.
(1) How can I know the original file is RBG color mode?
(2) How to convert RGB ai file to CMYK ai file?
I have an AI CS6 file (CMYK) which I can not print in color. When I save as a PDF file and print it using Reader it prints out in color. My other AI files print in color without a problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI work in prepress. I have an Illustrator CS6 file that is made up of 3 Pantone Spot colors. I save the file as an eps from Illustrator and rip the file with our prepress software. When previewing the ripped file with our prepress software it shows me that I have process colors (CMYK) somewhere in the file. I can not see these colors visually in the ripped file so I go back to Illustrator to see if I can edit them out of the file. I use the Preview Separations tool but can't find those process colors anywhere. There are no placed images, everything is vector art. I double check any white color and make sure it doesn't have any tiny percentage of process color in it. I make sure my spot colors are indeed spot colors and not process colors. I add used colors, I delete unused colors. I can't find the CMYK being used anywhere in my Illustrator file. How to clean up these "hidden" colors? This was also a problem in CS3. I'm using an iMac 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, Mac OS X, Version 10.7.5
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've only ever created graphics for the screen, now I'm trying to create something for print.I started a Photoshop document with a CMYK colour mode and soon discovered it would only let me choose colours that look murky on screen.
I've been all over the internet to read about CMYK vs RGB etc and I've seen things to suggest that printers can't print the vibrant colours we see on screen. Fine, but what about the magazine I have next to me where I can see beautiful vibrant turquoises and fushias? How did THOSE colours get on to the paper?
If a CMYK colour looks murky on screen will it look more vibrant when printed?
We're creating an image for a client that will eventually be printed 4c process, and we have to use some very specific CMYK values. However, since we need to use certain layer effects, we need to work in RGB. I assumed that since the CMYK values we use are within the RGB gamut, there would be no color shift when copying from a CMYK doc and pasting into an RGB doc, but I'm apprently mistaken.
I'm not very familiar with color management, since we don't do any heavy duty color work in house, so this is likely a very rudimentary question: how do I keep colors from shifting when pasting from a CMYK document into an RGB document (which will eventually be converted back to CMYK for print)?
when I pdf a coreldraw document, no matter which pdf-preset I use, the "Convert spot colours to: CMYK" is greyed out so I can't tick it. I need to pdf a document to send to newspaper print. I have never had a problem like this before using CorelDraw X3.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have created a new document in illustrator, lets call it the Label. In another document I have a created logo which has been vectorized - the Logo. It is made from a font and some lines etc and then merged and vectorized. Opening the Label I make all text outlined (Type>Create Outline) but I just can't get the Logo vectorized. I have understood I need to see "a blue line and dots" following the shape of the Logo in order to know that it has been outlined.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhile working and when the job was nearly done (Photoshop document with several layers to correct wrinkles, teeth, neck...) , I found out that the document is setup RGB.I have to convert it into CMYK but I don't want to merge it or lose layers since I need them in another Photoshop document too.
While converting the image from RGB to CMYK, I found out that some of the layers (hue/saturation adjustment layers) don't exist anymore when converted to CMYK...How do I get these layers (or at least the effect they give to the design) in CMYK?
When you convert a document into cmyk the colour picker still shows rgb. How do you pick colours using cmyk? Has it converted the pixel values into cmyk or has it kept it as rgb and somehow is converting these rgb values into cmyk for the screen?

Strangely, every time I click "save" in CS6 it opens up a 'Save As' window, (which shouldn't happen), then I click save witht the existing file name (it then tells me the doc already exists), I click OK, (and then OK to the next popup window) then get the message that "This file cannot be found". I'm forced to click "ok" and the doument isn't saved. I've tried saving it differently in previous versions and it still doesn't work. I recorded a video of this behavior. You can see it here - [URL]
Why would it be trying to find a file? It seems like an error message when trying to Open a doc, not Save a doc. I can't shutdown my station until I get the document to save.
Is it possible to get the list of all the fonts and colors used in the active illustrator document (.ai file) ?
if yes then how?
changing the file path for links in an Illustrator document?
For example, let's say my Illustrator document is stored at: /Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/designs/concept1.ai
and I have placed 2 linked visuals:
/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/big_retouch.psd
/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/flattened.jpg
When I open the .AI I noticed that the reference to the visuals is under a %DocumentFiles section:
%%DocumentFiles:/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/retouc hed.psd
%%+/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/flattened.jpg
I need to replace "/Volumes/Storage/Projects" with "/Volumes/Projects". (There are some more complex replacements I need, but let's start here.)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 with CS6 13.0.1 x64 installed on my D drive because my C drive is a 60Gb SSD. I have my cache set up to use the D drive. In my setup for cache, I have the D drive listed first and it is checked. Below that my C drive is listed and is NOT checked.
Every time I bring up Photoshop, it impolitely places a ~4Gb file (Photoshop Tempxxxxxxxxx) in C:. Now normally I wouldn't mind this, however the drive is only 60Gb and contains the Windows 7 OS. This doesn't leave room for much else.
How can I tell Photoshop to put this file on my D drive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been contracted by a customer to remake a logo of theirs. Like always it should be a vector file so they can scale it and print it resolution independent. The problem is their logo includes some effects (pillow embossed text and graphics) that are much easier done in Photoshop. So I'm left with the option of manually creating highlights and shadows (drawing a line then using gaussien blur)in illustrator to imitate the photoshop pillow emboss.
I was wondering if I placed a photoshop image in illustrator and saved it as an eps or ai if screen printers and other printers that require a vector file be able to use it or if that wouldn't work at all. I also know that there is a way to save photoshop eps. However when I try to do that with this logo that option is not available. I am using Photoshop and Illustrator cs5 on mac OS 10.6.8
Why the image stretches when I'm trying to place it on a page of a 3D book I created in Illustrator? I do realize the geometric lines vary depending on the shape of the page I'm placing the image on, but how can I avoid the stretch? Is there a way to move the lines, or? I read somewhere that if you rasterize the image, it shouldn't stretch. However, it still does (or I just don't know how to rasterize properly)
Here's a link to the image: [URL] ... (everything stretched out weirdly in the middle)
I have this problem in CS5 that any type of image or line art are always blurry. All my work is for print and perhaps just the preview is blurry but I am afraid that printing will be bad.
Most graphics I bring in are from Photoshop CS5. I make sure they are 300DPI to start and recently learned they should not be in RGB mode but CMYK.
The images I should also mention when placed are very small and I have to scale them to be the correct size. I do not know why they do not place as their original size. So basically it is small size and blurriness.
I need to place a series of symbols in a document in Illustrator CS3... some symbols have multiple instances, some have only one... i need to be able to refer to them by name... right now, i can only seem to place them using this syntax...
make new symbol item in document 1 with properties {symbol:symbol 1 of document 1}
i'd like to use something like this...
make new symbol item in document 1 with properties {symbol:{name:"Text Tag"}
i've tried different syntax after the "symbol" property, but i can't seem to find what works, if there's anything that actually works...
I am trying to place an EPS file into an illustrator file using Illustrator CS5 MAC.
The EPS file created in a CAD program uses the Garamond system font.
When I place the file, Ilustrator changes the font to bArial. Find Font doesn't show either Arial or Garamond.
I can open the EPS and see that it has Garamond.
How can i get illustrator to use the font in the EPS file when placed?
