Photoshop :: Color Shift When Pasting From CMYK To RGB Document
May 10, 2012We're creating an image for a client that will eventually be printed 4c process, and we have to use some very specific CMYK values. However, since we need to use certain layer effects, we need to work in RGB. I assumed that since the CMYK values we use are within the RGB gamut, there would be no color shift when copying from a CMYK doc and pasting into an RGB doc, but I'm apprently mistaken.
I'm not very familiar with color management, since we don't do any heavy duty color work in house, so this is likely a very rudimentary question: how do I keep colors from shifting when pasting from a CMYK document into an RGB document (which will eventually be converted back to CMYK for print)?
Illustrator :: Copying Object With Color Fill From One Document To Another
May 23, 2012I have come across a rather disturbing bug in Illustrator when copying an object with a color fill from one document to another.
Both documents have the same color space. Lets look at this example to see the condition. Make two documents with the same color space.
Make an object and assign a color to it. Lets say Pantone 201C and set it to a CMYK build - not a true spot color. Now make another document with the exact same Pantone 201C color - but specify it as a true spot color. Now copy and paste from one document to the next. As you shall see, you will get a dialog box warning you to add or discard the color to the recieving document as expected. This is a good behavior that tells the user that you have the same color builds but assigned different values.
Now what happens if we assign one document a book color value of PMS 201C and the other document a "spot" color build of PMS 201C. So we now have two PMS colors in two documents with different values assigned to them. Drag and drop or copy and paste an object from one document to the next. You shall now see that the recieving document now has two objects with the same PMS name, but two different color builds (and visual color differences).
What should happen in this situation is the user be prompted with a dialog box to either merge the two similar PMS spot color builds or add - like what you see when copying an object with the same color buld name, but has a different value assigned between the two.
Some of our designers are just going ape over this condition and I hope this bug could be addressed in a .01 release.
Illustrator :: New CMYK Document Shows Grayscale - Need Color
Jun 18, 2013I am a lifetime user of Adobe products, everything always updated to the latest, but a little stumped by this one... I opened a new document for print, specifying cmyk color and now, when I try to choose a color and apply to an object it only comes out in grayscale. What am I not understanding? as this is a first for me. I've looked back into document set up but am missing what ever it is that will not allow me to display or show color in my document.

Mar 17, 2010how you could select only one element from within an AI document and be able to export just that element out. For example, I'm making a letterhead and I want to select just a logo element from my page and export just that to an eps so that it could be imported into something else.
Back when I was using Corel Draw I could simply select anything and as long as it was the only thing selected I could export it to a new eps file, or whatever kind of file I wanted. If I did it with an image, the image would be cropped to just the bounds of the image.
So far it seems the only way to do this in AI is to export the entire artboard. I'm sure this can't be because that would be ludicrous, right?

I CAN do it in CS2 by dragging and dropping, but then the artwork on the layers still goes out of position. I have a document that was sent from a client. The client's doc was in ID CS 6. I have used the Find Font command to change ALL of the the fonts to one font, Alegreya Regular, an OpenType font from Google. I saved the doc and Quit ID CS 5.
When I copy and paste from the old document to the new one, the text appears as Futura. I have deleted all instances of Futura from the old file, and there are not any style sheets with Futura in the old file. Why does the supposedly-deleted formatting persist, and how can I get rid of it for real (and forever)?

Nov 30, 2013When I have more than one PSD open, and go to any layer with a layer effect (i.e. drop shadow) and try to alt + click that layer and drag it to another layer, Photoshop switches me to the other open PSD instead of dragging the effect and applying it to the layer.
The alt key is not broken since I can clone something on the canvas using alt + click.

Aug 30, 2011I've only ever created graphics for the screen, now I'm trying to create something for print.I started a Photoshop document with a CMYK colour mode and soon discovered it would only let me choose colours that look murky on screen.
I've been all over the internet to read about CMYK vs RGB etc and I've seen things to suggest that printers can't print the vibrant colours we see on screen. Fine, but what about the magazine I have next to me where I can see beautiful vibrant turquoises and fushias? How did THOSE colours get on to the paper?
If a CMYK colour looks murky on screen will it look more vibrant when printed?

I thought I was doing everything correctly until I got this message that was generated when I selected Export (to PDF), "The document is using CMYK space. Colors are converted to RGB in interactive PDF files. To avoid color changes, click Cancel and choose Document RGB from the Edit > Transparency Blend Space menu. Click OK to continue."
So, I think this means that the PDF export is being saved in an RGB color space. Is that a correct interpretation? If so, how do I preserve the CMYK color space because that is what the commercial printer requires? Is that even possible or relevant?

Whenever I place a duotone .eps (black + 227U) or an Illustrator vector .eps with 227U in it, the color mode for that swatch changes to CMYK. An Illustrator vector which is 100% 227U also gives me the same issue.

However, when I do this - the image does not paste in at the same size. It typically shrinks down in size. Do I have to save the file, close out and then open the new doc and PLACE it in the document in order for it to keep size? There must be a better way to do this. A client sent an InDesign IDML file. I opened it at exported its stories as .txt files.
When I tried to place the texts in a new InDesign CS5 document, the text displayed strangely. Mostly, I see rectangles with exes through them. It looks likethe headers of an unreadable format. Some of the characters are normal alhabetic glyphs.
When I open the text files in TextEdit, they display normally. If I copy and paste, the texts look fine in the InDesign document.

However, when I get to page 6 I get a message 'downloading font' and then the programme hangs and I have to use windows task master to close it down.
