InDesign :: Keeping Original INX File Name?

Apr 2, 2014

Is it possible to keep the original .inx file name, when saving it back as indd from an older Indesign version? Elaborating… i save an inx file from IndesignCS3 that is named george.inx, then i open that file in IndesignCS2, when i save that file from CS2 as indd it doesn't keep the name "george", its named untitled. Is there a way to keep the original name?

Photoshop :: Keeping Two Copies Of Original Image In File

Jun 17, 2012

If I select Edit Content on a Smart Object layer, and then select Duplicate Layer, will that put two copies of the original image in the file?

I used the Place command to bring high resolution images into a canvas of a much lower resolution. I've already spent a lot of time scaling and positioning the images on the canvas. But it turns out, I would now like to do certain editing on the original pixels of the images because of their greater resolution. Of course, that defeats the purpose of Smart Objects for non-destructive editing.

But there's no reason I can't keep two copies of an original image in a file, and destructively edit only one copy, right?

Lightroom :: Keeping Original File Name When Renaming And Converting To DNG

Nov 27, 2011

In LR 2.6, when I imported my images (RAW) I would import keeping the original file number, then I would batch rename and convert to dng after they were already in my catalogue.  Since I shoot stock, I keep a meticulous record of what I shoot for metadata and keywording purposes.  I notice that when I upgraded to LR 3, my in my existing catalogues/folders the original file names are gone, and just the new custom name & sequencing show up.

Unfortunately, I still have to keyword & metadata tag a lot of images, but now the original in-camera numbering is gone.  With my new imports what I did to preserve the original numbering, is to import, do my keywording/metadata, then a batch rename.  How to keep both.  It is just easier to refer to my notes when I have the original number of the image.

Photoshop :: Keeping Some Color From Original In B/W Image?

Jan 26, 2006

I love taking landscape photos and i am interested in turning them into black and white images. No problem with that bit, i then want to make the black and white more intense, i realise this will be difficult with the black but i want the white to be, i don't know slightly more silver i suppose, more haunting......am i making sense, lol.

I would also like to keep some color from the original image, maybe have a tree with just a faint coloring from the original or a stream with just a hint of the original blue.

I don't know how to transfer the original color to the black and white copy, is it done with a mask?.

Photoshop :: Keeping Original Size Of Photo

Aug 3, 2006

I'm using Photoshop Esentials 3.0.

I have a photo of a negative from a 35 mm camera. File "A". It's a jpg file.

I need a picture of two of these negatives side by side.

I opened file "A" and used the marque to highlight the picture and copy it to the clip board.

Then I closed the file and opened a new file "B" and made the demensions of the new file "B" the same height, but I doubled the width.

Everything copied and pasted ok and I mergered down all the layers and saved it as a jpg. file.

Here is the problem.

The new file that I created, File "B" with the two pictures side by side is only about half of the height of the original file.

I've tried everything that I know but I just can't increase the height of the new file "B" I created with the two pictures side by side.

AutoCad 3D :: Keeping Original Layers When Converting 3D To 2D

Oct 27, 2012

I do a lot of 3D modeling with AutoCAD and so far I been using solprof to convert my models from 3D to 2D drawings creating plans & elevations

What solprof does is creating 2 separate layers and separates solid lines from the hidden lines (which is great) however, it loses the original layers that was used for each solid. My question; Is it possible to keep the original layers after a 3D is converted to a 2D drawin? We spend a lot of time assigning back the layers to the 2D shapes again. btw, we are using AutoCAD 2010

VideoStudio :: Keeping Original Video Properties When Sharing

Jul 17, 2011

I have a HD mov file. When I drag it into my timeline I don't get a message to match the project properties to the file type even with the correct preference. I understand that with the mov file type this doesn't work in X4 anyway. Anyway, after a bit of trimming I want to create a file with exactly the same specifications as the original.

I obviously cant use same as project settings option. For some reason I do not have the same as first clip option either. So how do I tell X4 to keep the original file properties when creating a new file?

VideoStudio :: Keeping Original Audio And Removing Video Track?

Mar 31, 2012

I want to keep the original audio captured with video footage but remove the actual video and replace it with other video footage taken and still images. I'm guessing that this is possible using the overlay track, but ideally, I would like to just remove the original video so that I can use two new images between the main track and other "images" on the overlay track. I have no need for the original video, just the audio. Is this possible? If not, is there any way to insert audio from video onto either a music or narration track scrap the video portion?

Illustrator :: Importing Multiple Vectors Of Same File And Keeping File Size Down

Feb 3, 2014

So, I'm trying to create a repeat pattern of a Balloon illustration I've done in Adobe Illustrator. I've got the singular file (balloon.ai), which weighs in at around 700MB.

Now I'm trying to create the repeat of this pattern on a separate Artboard which will repeat these balloons, 30 balloons per repeat square to be precise.

What would be the best way to import these separate balloons into the repeat square once (as they're the same file) without affecting the weight of the file and performance of Illustrator?

So, in essence, is there a way to import that balloon.ai file and only have it use up 700MB on the page rather than 30x700MB by the time I've placed 30 balloons?

I can't rasterize the files as the printer needs the raw file.

Illustrator :: Keeping File Size Down?

Aug 12, 2013

I was just provided a pdf for a large. The customer however forgot to build in a bleed. I can see from the imbeded info the file was made in Illustrator cs5. Knowing this I opened the pdf Ill cs5. When i attempt to do this I get an error that there is a linked image missing. So I figured I would place the whole pdf in a new illustrator file. When I fo this I can see all the illustrator layers from the original file. Including the image that supposedly wasn't linked.

Once I have the place pdf in illustrator I can edit the original illustrator elements just fine.  The only problem is that now when I try to save this file as a pdf again it's file size grows about ten times, going from just short of 5 mbs to 45 or more mbs. This larger size keeps me from emailing it and unfortunitly the banner printer I was sending it off too doesn't use dropbox.

How I can add a bleed to this pdf without making the file unresonibly large? I have already tried turning off the all optional inclusions on the pdf such as allow Illustrator editablity.

Photoshop :: Not Keeping Saved File Open

Sep 10, 2008

If I create an image in PS and save it to a JPG or PNG, it will not have that file be the current open file. I flatten the image and click to Save As, but when it saves, the image still has Untitled as the name in the program bar. What's the deal?? Granted, I haven't been using PS-CS3 for long, but in the previous versions, if an image is flattened and saved as a JPG, GIF, PNG, etc, it will then have that file open instead of the original PSD file.

CorelDRAW X5 :: Creating PDF Or PS File And Keeping Glow Transparency

Dec 20, 2012

My boss has designed a layout in Corel x5 and he has added a drop shadow glow to a vector logo.

My problem is that when i create a pdf file and view it in acrobat, we lose the nice soft glow - we get what looks like a fat shadow - If i create a ps file (for outputting to our large format printer), my RIP tells me that a potential conflict may exist between spot colour replacement and a flattened transparency.

I guess Corel is flattening the transparency ? - Do i just need to print the file and at some point choose to keep the transparency instead of it being flattened ?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Unable To Save File - Losing Original File Afterwards

Feb 12, 2013

I found this error a bit strange, my colleague it trying to save a file and this error keeps on coming out (see attachments). When we try to save it, it only saves as a temp file. When we try to open up the temp file and try to save it, it still doesn't allow us to do. Also, when we cancel the save, the original file will be gone and he will lost all of his data. Below are the specs of the computer and version of the AutoCAD.

Computer: DELL Precision T5500

OS: Windows 7 Ult

AutoCAD Version: 2011

Also, we're using ProSteel Series 3 as well. We tried saving the file using ProSteel and just AutoCAD but it didn't do the trick. I've tried some options (listed below) that might get it to work but still no luck.

1. Restart the computer.

2. Repair / Reinstall AutoCAD.

3. Give permission to the folder (read from the forum).

Why doesn't PS do LR style non-destructrive editing, i.e., why not simply return a record of the edits made in a format compatible with LR?

Photoshop :: How To Copy And Paste Shape (or Layer) From One File To Another Keeping All Of Its Attributes

Mar 6, 2013

Our department currently uses MS Paint to place varied colored boxes for call outs on top of screen figures used in our documentation. As you know, MS Paint is not a robust image editing application, and we are frustrated at its limitations (especially not having a "non-destructive" edit capability).

Consequently, we are evaluating a trial version of PS to see how a workflow could be developed that would allow the department to use call out boxes "stored" in a PS file that could be applied in an easy, consistent manner to our screen figures (but also keep each call out box editable) using PS.

Consequently, in PS using the shape tool, I created a file with our colored boxes for call outs, each on its own layer. Now I am trying to determine how you copy and paste a box (or layer) from this file to a "working" file (one containing a screen figure), while keeping all of its attributes (color, line weight, being editable, etc.). I can't seem to find an option to do this. Is there? If not, is there another workflow in PS that you can recommend for this type of procedure?

Lightroom :: Correcting Imported File Names (way To Bulk Rename Back To Original File Names)

Dec 18, 2011

I accidentally included a file rename when I just imported a batch of several hundred pictures. I violated a rule that I teach my own Lightroom students, and that is to look carefully at the import panel choices before proceeding.

How can I correct this so that the files are named as they originally were? I know how to easily fix the filenames in Windows (using a tool called BulkRename, for example), but then I'd have to "find" each image one-by-one and correctly point to the renamed version. I tried selecting all the images and then using F2 to rename, but none of the templates allow deleting a portion of the filename.

P.S. Here is an example of what I mean:

ON CARD:
IMG_0001.NEF
...
IMG_0300.NEF

WHAT I RENAMED TO ACCIDENTALLY:

IMG_0001 {shot by John Doe}.NEF
...
IMG_0300 {shot by John Doe}.NEF

Photoshop :: Maintain RAW File As Per Original

May 25, 2008

I open an image in ACR, make adjustments to it.

I open the image in Photoshop, and make a Duplicate.

I close the first image (Not the Copy), and select "NO" for "Do you wish to save changes"

I go back into bridge, and view the RAW file, and though I selected "NO" for changes, the image retains the changes/adjustments made in ACR.

Is there any simple way to return the RAW file to the original state as it appeared prior to ACR adjustments?

The only way I've found to do it is to keep separate files of the original RAW files on another drive.

InDesign :: How To Package Out A File

Feb 24, 2014

Every time I try to package out a file in InDesign its gets about 3/4s of the way through and then shows the "Cannot copy necessary font(s)" dialog box. I have read on certain discussions it may be a font issue. When I remove ALL fonts from my computer font library and use only preset Adobe fonts, Arial Regular for example, it works fine, then as soon as I use a font say, Helvetica Neue Light, I get the error. I have only recently upgraded to CC and all of the existing fonts in my library have always worked fine and never been a problem when packaging... However due to the tests with different fonts, it seems to be a font issue and not a links/filename issue like other people have had.

Photoshop :: File Mysteriously Reverted To Original?

May 24, 2013

I have been working on a painting for a few days, and after I was done with the underpainting, I saved the file as another one with a different name, and continued work on that file.

I had finished it, saved, and left photoshop open for a few hours. Later today I came back to it to make some final adjustments and while I was drawing, it suddenly and apparently for no reason reverted to the state it was when I first saved it (that is, like the original file).

I know there's probably no way to recover the file how it was before this thing happened, but what might have happenedSomething weird though, is that I opened the original file, the first one, and it had bits of the work that was supposed to be saved on the newer file.

Photoshop :: Does PS Change Exif Of Original File

Mar 7, 2009

I participate in an online photography challenge group. In order for your photo to be legal you have to be able to submit the original file, with unaltered exif, as proof that the photo was taken during the right dates, and that the editing steps you took were legal.

I have never had an issue, however there is now some debate amongst a few people.

A certain photog claims that she shot a photo in jpg, used PS (it might have been elements though) to edit the photo, then used "save as" to save it as a different file name. When she had to submit the original file, the exif was changed and she was dq'd. She is blaming PS for changing the original file even though she never saved over the original.

My own stance is that she must hae used the "import photos" command to get the pics from her camera to her HD, and that is likely what changed the exif on the original. (I always use a copy and paste into a new folder on my HD)

So my question is... who is correct? Does PS Or PS Elements change your original file just by opening it, even if you do not ever "save", and only use "save as"? Or am I correct in saying the only way that could happen is during an "import from camera" command?

Please let me know so we can put this issue to rest. It is causing the whole jpg vs raw thing to flare up again, since you cannot save to a camera propriatary raw file.

AutoCAD .NET :: Xref Original File Name Of Drawing?

Jan 30, 2013

I'm trying to get just the filename either with or without the .dwg extension for an xref given I already have its reference (BlockReference) and its model space (BlockTableRecord) all open for read; skipping accessing any BlockTable.

Im doing something like this:

Either get the XGraph and first node or prompt user for a block reference and check it's from attachmentStart active document's database transaction, get the BlockReference.Get the BlockTableRecord only with the BlockReference's BlockTableRecord-ObjectId property. At this point I can iterate through the model space and see the nuts and bolts of the xref drawing without actually changing anything after saving my drawing, even after committing a trasaction. So what I want to know is how to get the filename of the xref'ed drawing (i.e. Original_Drawing.dwg).

I'm looking at doing this without opening the referenced drawing as a side database and checking the filename.I can't debug right now, but is it. myBlockTableRecord.Database.OriginalFileName ?
