InDesign :: How To Automatically Prevent Widows / Orphans
Feb 28, 2013
I constantly create multi-languaged leaflets within InDesign CS5 and the one thing I often find is that I constantly have to revisit the entire document to prevent widows (or orphans - whatever you call them) at the end of a paragraph.
Â
Is there a way to setup within my paragraph style to prevent, lets say, anything less then 10 characters at the end of the paragraph?
Â
I am aware of using the White-Space non break command, but the amount of text I have to visit I wondered if it could be setup in the first instance and prevent widows appearing at the end of a paragraph.
I haven't changed my preferences or upgraded the software, but suddenly my "ci"s are changing to "a"s with a tilde over them, and my "ek"s are changing to "fi" ligatures. I've looked in my preferences and settings and cannot see where to control this.
I used Adobe application manager to download a trial version of photoshop cs6, but I need to install it at another time. Adobe application manager instead installs photoshop immediately.
How Can I prevent Adobe application manager to install downloaded software automatically?
In our workflow, we have a few users who are doing design work on Windows installations of IinDesign CS6 (2 in WIndows 7 and 2 in Windows 8). On all four systems, we have noticed that when we open files from packaged folders that contain the Document Fonts folder, that InDesign slows to an excrutiating crawl, which makes working on the document near impossible. We've narrowed down this behavior to the AdobeFnt14.lst file that seems to be a result of InDesign opening the file using the fonts in that folder without being told to. Deleting that file will temporarily fix the problem, but InDesign recreates it when you open the corresponding document and then you have to delete it again.  We use Universal Type Cient for our font manager, but as far as I know, we didn't install any font auto activation plugins.  Other than deleting the font folder, we've not been able to figure out how to stop ID from trying to automatically load the fonts. We'd love to just turn that "feature" off so that we don't have the hassle. I'd rather have fonts missing and turn them on using our font manager, than have ID slow to an impossible crawl whenever we open archived files. How to stop ID from automatically loading fonts from a document fonts folder?
I purchased Photoshop Extended Student version for Windows six months ago. This week I have just changed my computer system to an iMac. Â Can I transfer my license from Windows to Mac? Will it cost anything? If so how do I go about making the change?
I downloaded Photoshop CS3 and run the installer. After it extracted some part of installator files it displays extraction error, so the installator placed on the ADOBE.COM web site is corrupted. Where to find correct one?
I have recently replaced my PC. Windows Pro with all current updates. I use Photoshop CS3.
Sometimes when I put the cursor on the blue bar at the top of an open PS image it doesn't move around my screen when I drag the mouse. Other times it works OK after a few stutters. It was always OK on my previous PC.
I've created a plot style setting Black lwt. Stb ( style 1) in my table setting . I've set my plot style in my layers to this setting. In my plot setup I've selected this setting. Have the transperancy setting checked and all others uncheck so my line weights appear nice and thin but everything plots color in my pdf.
I've matched my " plot style" in my properties after selecting various walls, windows, doors and etc in properties . Yet I still get color. Particulary with all default hatches ( cmu wall ) The only thing I've done that works is Select wall> right click> Edit wall Style and then changed the style over rides. This involved selecting different hatches and etc. This works but seems excessive for something that should be simple. What am I missing here. My standard 2d items and even 3d drawings of something like a hinge.I don't encounter this.
When I open CS4, it crashes with out an error message box coming up. The second attempt, it crashes with the message box saying, Error 150:30, Licensing for this product has stopped working.Â
I then have to go to the hard drive > library > application support > Flexnet publisher and delete it. I then can open up CS4 and it stays open. I have had to do this procedure for many months. I am using Mac OS.6.8. Is there a way of preventing CS4 from crashing without having to go through this procedure?
when I save them they loose alot of their color intencity when opened in Firefox. They still look great in Safari and in Mac OS X previewer, but in Firefox they look pale. I've read alot about this, and have been told to change the color settings from Adobe RGB to sRGB (and then convert old images to that colorspace) but this doesn't work. Why is it that (for exemple) Apple can make their images look the same in Firefox/Safari when I can't (see images below),
The image with fire is mine, the other is obviously Apple's.. how do I get my images to look the same in all browsers (as Apple do)?
Whenever i try to render animation sequence, the bitmap maps on the objects starts to flicker. What should i do to prevent this?
I tried "project points from positions...." in Final Gather. But, that's not the answer, the flickering does not occur because of animation. It is somehow related with JPEG and bitmap rendering.
For example; with no camera movements in the scene, in my animation the JPEG material on the box still flickers.
Every time I drag an image into Photoshop CS 5 I get the splash screen shown below. I doesn't mater if I choose Yes, or No. I still get this screen. What can I do to prevent this annoying occurrence?
Nikon D7000 shooting Raw. When I download captures to bridge in CS6 I also get this .XMP file. How can I prevent this file from downloading? If the adjustment needs to be made in the camera I will follow up with Nikon .
Whenever I save something as a PNG, Photoshop asks if I want to save it in interlaced format. Is there a way to set a default for that so it doesn't ask me every flippin' time?
I recently upgraded to CS6 and I find that Photoshop hangs whenever I attempt to print or access the printer settings, in the print dialog in Photoshop. This occurs with both printers I've tried (Epson 7800 and my HP OfficeJet).PS CS5 seems to print fine, as does Word, Illustrator and inDesign CS5 or CS6. All programs have had all their updates installed. Â The Epson 7800 is network attached. I have the standard TCP/IP port configured with the LPR pass-through protocol, and I tried all settings of "enable advanced printing features", "enable bidirectional "and "printer isolation". And of course I've done the usual things of uninstalling and reinstalling and rebooting (Seemingly endlessly) both Photoshop and the printer driver. In the printer install methods tried were both Windows update add printer Wizard as well as the 6.5 driver installer downloaded off Epson's website. Â The failure in more detail happens two ways.: 1. When using printer settings from the PS print dialogue, the application hangs on clicking OK on the printer settings dialog. 2. When hitting PRINT on Photoshop's dialogue the application hangs, there's a spool file visible in spool/PRINTERS that is 0K long.
I am constantly opening documents and moving them around on my screens. I never remember this problem in CS4, but in CS5 when I try to move a document by clicking in the top gray bar and dragging, the document often minimizes and goes hides in the Mac bar at the bottom.Â
Is there a setting , when you create a video file, that will prevent looping? The player has looping turned off but, it still loops. I burn with Img burn and I could find no setting for it.
There seem to be 2 kinds of smart objects: One kind where you can replace the contents, no matter what size it has and it will fit into the bounding box of the smart object which is already there. The other kind where this doesn't happen. Is there any way to control that behaviour? I found that in older PS-files, replacing contents always made the new content fit into the bounding box, but since CS3, the transformation stays the same which means I have to rescale the smart-object if the content-size has changed. Example:Imagine a game cover with screenshots on the back side. Now each screenshot is a smartobject. All Screenshots are at 640x480 (assumend the standard screen dpi of 72)Now I found them in a better resolution (1024x768, also 72dpi) and replace the old ones with "replace content". The old photoshop behaviour: Photoshop would fit the larger image to occupy exactly the same area than it's predecessor. The new behaviour: The whole Smartobject is enlarged by 160% (not the transformation parameters, the visual appearance.), I have to scale it down to make it fit to the old size. And I really wonder about having older and newer Photoshop-Files where these Smartobjects behave differently. Now did I miss something in the help section or is there a way to control this behaviour?
I want to prevent an object to be moved on first click even if select and move tool is active. It is tiring to always press Q key or toggle select object tool, cuz after some transactions are applied, it automatically activates move tool. I want to move tool to act for first click to just select and second click and afterwards to move.
I'm using large .exr/.tx bitmaps via VrayHDRI texture nodes. At many points 3dsmax thinks it has to load the whole maps into memory even if I deactivated every texture-display and slate-update that I know of.
Is this a Vray issue or a general max issue? Can I somehow force max to not touch any of the textures and leave it to Vray to handle them?
Is there a way to prevent the render window from clearing to black before rendering a new frame when using the scanline renderer? Several versions ago Max used to leave the old image up while updating and its easier for me in some cases to see changes when the previous frame is still there and updates as the scanline renders down the frame.
How to prevent the Xref layer name from prefix of Xref dwg name? For example If I have been using one layer name as BORDER in Master Dwg. Now I going to use Master dwg As a External Reference, thereafter The Above specified Layer name are coming as Master$0$BORDER, while i am using the Master Dwg As a Xref Dwg of my another dwg. Actually I want to remove highlighted text from layer name?
I have used image transparency successfully in the past . However, now I'm having to result to clipping to get rid of the white background within the frame. I have no results with jpg, gif, tiff, bmp, etc.
Is there a setting that may prevent the transparency from functioning?
I have a camera I like, but a problem with it. I took a few indoor photos and it took awhile to get enough light arranged for them. When I put the camera's SD card in the card reader and looked at the photos they looked great. I copied the photos to a folder then deleted everything on the card to get it ready for the next photos.
Then when I look at the photos from the desktop folder, they are much darker. I don't do this a lot but it has happened at least once before, and I think it does that all the time. Possible to just lighten photos with Gimp?
I did find a page that said you could, but it is probably an old page, at brighten dark photo with Gimp. It instructs me to Quote:Duplicate the original image layer in the layers dialog. Change the Mode of this duplicated layer to Value -mode to use this layer for a retouching brightening of colors.
When I create a duplicate layer, click on image, hover over mode, none of the options are value. Maybe that was for an older version of Gimp? The page doesn't have a date which isn't nice.
What the problem might be between the Canon view, and the windows 7 view? Is there something I can tweak in 7?
Edit: I found it in the colors > brightness and contrast, but maybe I can leave this up in case someone knows how to stop the darkening from happening in the first place. The photo quality isn't as good as it was in the Canon folder.
