InDesign :: CS6 ID Not Exporting Correct Document Size To PDF
Apr 17, 2014
I created a 6.25 in wide doc in ID, exported it to PDF. PDF printed doc at 5.5 in wide. I sent PDF file to coworker, who printed it to several other printers in office: same wrong-sized results. Packaged and emailed original ID doc to our local printer, who opened my original ID file and--without making any changes to it--exported to PDF and got a perfect 6.25 size! She had no idea why it didn't convert properly on my software, since it worked perfectly for her.
So, it's my software, and it's a recurring problem: I've created other PDF docs in the last few months that printed incorrectly. That's professionally embarrassing, especially since I make quite a few PDF docs for work.
I have a 5 section book which I need to print. I usually export to a PDF then re import into a single indesign document. Then use print booklet to print the book. My problem is that I need bleed on my pages so I have set my page size to O/S A4 (32*22.5) When I export to PDF the pages end up A4. How can I export so the page size remains the same?
We just started getting more into banner and sign printing. I have since learned that InDesign has a max size limit of 216 inches. I prefer Indesign over Illustrator but I tried with that also and that gives me a limit of 227 inches. I need to go bigger than this and it will probably be a regular problem. Is there a way to trick ID or AI to go larger?
How on earth do you export bitmaps cropped to the size of the canvas? This seems like the simplest functionality ever but i can't get it to work. For example, I am designing an advert for use online. It needs to be 600px wide x 150px high. I may want to use a background image or a photo that when placed goes beyond the edge of the canvas. Logic dictates i would only want to export the canvas with a web image (otherwise why would i have set an exact number of pixels.) However, Corel insists on exporting everything on the canvas and desktop. Surely it should allow us to choose the bounding area of the exported bitmap.
Just to clarify what I mean, i've included a screen shot showing and example original graphic and the export result. I'm sure there must be an easy way to do this. If it's one like this i can crop it easily, but sometimes a print customer will ask me to send them, for example, a 32pp booklet we have designed for them with each page as a JPG and to crop each one manually is a right pain.
My InDesign document has a total of 55 pages. My page numbers are set up in a master. Some of the pages display the page numbers correctly: "Page X of 55" but others do not "Page X of 43". Why is it unable to detect the correct number of pages?
I'm having trouble with my print/cutable files not exporting properly into ColorRip 2.2. When I open the EPS file I see the art but the cut lines aren't the "marching ants" that normally show up. The lines appear to be part of the art. It was working when I saved in PDF but now thats not working either. This has worked for years, since iv'e used both. This appears to be a new problem. (I rebooted my computer. But to no avail.)I wonder if I have to re-enstall CD X5?
I would like to export some GUI elements as PNGs for an iPhone application and encountered the following problem:
What I did:
1. The developer gave me an hex code with that I should produce the GUI elements
2. I set the color in illustrator and exported the GUI elements as PNGs
3. The developer imported them and we noted a difference in color between my GUI PNGs and the color of a background element set in the ios app via the same hex code.
I work on:
- MacBook Retina - Illustrator document color mode is and was always RGB - I experimented with color profile settings in Illustrator and Mac System Preferences but don't really know what the settings mean and dont have good feeling playing arround with them
what is the best format to use for my finished video project. The video format is currently MP4. I have imported the video to add and edit the audio and video portions of these videos. I would now like to export the finished project so that I can both embed the videos with controller on my website as well as put them in a zip file for potential clients so that the can download the set of videos then play them back with controller included with video. I would also like the format that I use to prevent user edits or tampering. If so what format is the best to use for the requirements presented?
I am trying to move pages from one document to another. I have used all methods-drag and drop, using the move menu from the pages panel, etc. However, when I do move the pages, the pages that I moved appear in the new document with the master page items from that document on them, which I do not want. Also, I have multiple master pages in each document.
A client sent an InDesign IDML file. I opened it at exported its stories as .txt files.
When I tried to place the texts in a new InDesign CS5 document, the text displayed strangely. Mostly, I see rectangles with exes through them. It looks likethe headers of an unreadable format. Some of the characters are normal alhabetic glyphs.
When I open the text files in TextEdit, they display normally. If I copy and paste, the texts look fine in the InDesign document.
What could cause this problem, and how can I fix it?
I have been trying to create a PDF of a 36 page document. However, when I get to page 6 I get a message 'downloading font' and then the programme hangs and I have to use windows task master to close it down. There are only three fonts being used on the page and according to Font Finder no fonts are missing. This is driving me crazy and I'm fast approaching my printers deadline.
I am running MAC OSX version 10.8.5 and every time i am trying to export a pdf from inDesign CS6 is chrashing. And i am doing the same loop again and again with the same results. The inDesign file is large (<8gb) and most of the items inside are embended. Thought i did this procedure several times in the past and everything was working fine.
I am trying to place an .eps image on an InDesign document, however, the blue bounding box in Illustrator is cropping part of the image. I can see the full image in Illustrator. Maybe the bounding box is too close to the edge of the logo? Below is the what it looks like when I place it in InDesign and what it looks like in Illustrator. Is there a way I can include the missing part of the image? I am not the creator of the logo and received it from another company.
My InDesign CS6 cannot function hardly at all when I try to edit this one 10 page document. It has a lot of graphics, but still, what should I do? Do you think the file is corrupt? My InDesign works well with all other documents. I have seen this before with some 4 pg documents that have a lot of pictures. Should I be making them as books rather than documents? I've never used the book setting before.
We are designing a book in Id and already have a dcument defined. We have searched high and low. But we find nowhere to change the margins of the document, post-creation. (Of course those options present themselves, during document creation itself.)
I am working on a large price list document of 200 pages. Basically it's a very long table which spans the whole 200 pages and is formated to show in two columns on each page.My InDesign is working fine normally, and it allowed me to create this document ok yesterday, however, after quitting out of the document yesterday, it will no longer allow me to open it. When I try to go back into the document it crashes with the Indesign CC has stopped working error. I don't think the file is corrupt as I took a backup of it straight after quitting out of it and the backup also won't allow me back in it. (I took the backup because I had the same issue when I tried to create a similar document just after CC was launched)
Ive looked at Windows Even Viewer and the error that it shows is as follows: InDesign.exe 9.2.0.69 5297b4c4 Public.dll 9.2.0.69 [code]....
I dont get this crash with any other documents I work on.
I have a document that is separated into categories of information, (i.e. radio stations, newspapers, network programs, cable programs, etc.). I tried to add section markers to each page where a new section begins. But if I make edits and add information before, and a new page is created, the section marker stays on the same page and doesn't move with the beginning of the section itself. I am using a primary text frame with smart text reflow, which I assume has something to do with it. I tried changing the end of story option to "End of Section." I also checked preserve facing pages (because a section needs to start on the right page). I thought that this would make it enough text was added that a new page was created before a section marker, the new page would be created before the section marker and the section marker would move its content.
So, for example,
Section 1 (Radio Stations) first page has header that says "Radio Stations," followed by entries of radio stations Section 2 (Newspapers) first page has header that says "Newspapers", followed by entries of newspapers
So say section 1 starts on page 15, and section 2 starts on page 29. I need to add a few radio stations on any page in section 1, let's say 22. I add some information, text after flows into next pages, but the section 2 marker stays on page 29 even after the first page with header "Newspapers" has now moved to page 31.
I have an InDesign document with one missing image. The strange thing is that this image is not (longer) placed in the document. The links palette also can't tell me where the placeholder for that missing element is: There is no page number shown in the links palette, there are no elements beside the pages or on the master pages. There just don't seem to be any placeholder containing that image!Selecting the missing image on the links palette and clicking on the "go to image" button doesn't work - nothing happens.I also tried to the relink the image to a file that's existent, but the relink button doesn't work here as well.
After that I placed a file with the same name at the path InDesign expects it but now the links palette shows the link as modified and I'm also not able to refresh it.Something seems to be stuck.
Would have saved the document as .idml but unfortunately it's a document in our content management system and saving it as .idml will result in loosing all article links.Because of the content management system I'm also not able to get a PDF out of that document because MadeToPrint / InDesign Server throws an error for all documents with missing or modified links.
I have an ID-book made out of 10 InDesign documents. Everything is fine, but one thing.
One of the chapters (#4) is made out of two ID documents: "chapter4a.indd“ and "chapter4b.indd". The chapter number, which is automatically given by the book, is correct: 4. But the numbering of the next below level (4.x) is wrong. In the file „chapter4a.indd“ I have the sub-chapters 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3. But in the „chapter4b.indd“ it starts yet again with 4.1 instead of 4.4.
Where is the mistake?
Merging the two ID files "chapter4a.indd“ and "chapter4b.indd" into one is not an option, unfortunately.
Is it possible to let the sublevel chapter number (4.x) continue after the ID-document change or does it start always at ".1" once again because it's in a new document?
I'm getting a message on a print document that I'm working that reads "Document contains an invalid frame. Story text begins - Delete frame and associated story?" Regarless of my choice, ID becomes unresponsive.
I am using version CS6, I would like to know if there is an easy way to import a MS word document into InDesign. The document is about 1000 pages and contains text, images and tables.
I need help with using graphics. If you make a document in photoshop (please note: it's not a photo, but a scanned drawing) and then making some alterations on it... (adding text etc...) Then when I try to put this document in Illustrator or InDesign, the resolution and quality is horrible...
Please help. I've tried to save as a .jpeg, .gif, .tiff... I've tried to create a bitmap out of it (which was the worst method ever!)
How do I transfer photoshop documents to Illustrator and InDesign with great resolution and quality?
Im having trouble exporting a pdf with a spot colour from ID. Just one part of my logo is showing as thicker once its exported. I can place in the exact same artwork but using a CYMK colour and the thick shape doesnt show. Im placing an ai. file.
I created a document in InDesign CS6, and each time I try to export the document to a PDF (of any compression, smallest file size, print quality, etc) InDesign crashes. I have zero errors in my preflight and no extraneous fonts.
I have restarted both my computer and ID and it is not responding differently.
I copied the crash report: [URL] ........
Thread 22 shows the crash, but I am not certain what it is inducating and how to solve it, any pointers?
I am losing objects when I export to pdf from InDesign. Even if I make a simple file with one object, if it is over a certain size it will not export? This has just started recently, it also happens in Illustrator. I am using a mac.
I just downloaded InDesign. I have been getting away with using Pages on my Mac but I need bleeds and crop marks now and thus need InDesign. I have produced a brochure on Pages and it's ready to go. In the past I was able to use Adobe Reader or some other export to produce crop-marks for print ready material but it has all changed so I am forced to us InDesign. I will (eventually) train on this properly, but in the meantime I have time sensitive material. Is there a way to export my Pages document to InDesign? I tried to do a .pdf but the import into InDesign came up really bad (pixeled etc.) OR am I doomed to redo the whole project?
how do you override master pages for the entire document, not just page-by-page? I have a multi-page document and want to ba able to edit type of all pages but the text areas are locked.
When I export my ePub, the entire text is visible But now that I am going back to edit this document.... Change some paragraph styles, The last 25% of the text in my document is NOT VISIBLE. TRUNCATED
Someone sent me a zip drive with links to fonts used in the original document being worked on, how do I link the font from the files saved on the zipdrive?
