My InDesign document has a total of 55 pages. My page numbers are set up in a master. Some of the pages display the page numbers correctly: "Page X of 55" but others do not "Page X of 43". Why is it unable to detect the correct number of pages?

I have used all methods-drag and drop, using the move menu from the pages panel, etc. However, when I do move the pages, the pages that I moved appear in the new document with the master page items from that document on them, which I do not want. Also, I have multiple master pages in each document.

I have tried starting and restarting the program and computer. The document works properly on another program in my office, but I really need it to work on mine. I am running InDesign CS6 8.0.2.
how do I move a master page number over a box, creating the background color? Do I have to apply it in another layer?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded InDesign. I have been getting away with using Pages on my Mac but I need bleeds and crop marks now and thus need InDesign. I have produced a brochure on Pages and it's ready to go. In the past I was able to use Adobe Reader or some other export to produce crop-marks for print ready material but it has all changed so I am forced to us InDesign. I will (eventually) train on this properly, but in the meantime I have time sensitive material. Is there a way to export my Pages document to InDesign? I tried to do a .pdf but the import into InDesign came up really bad (pixeled etc.) OR am I doomed to redo the whole project?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony vaio notebook with an intern Intel hd graphics 4000 and an additional geforce gt 640m LE graphic card with 2 GB. PS CC can't detect my nvidia card. In PS at the settings -> performance menu there is no nvida card to select, I just can select the intern graphic card at the moment if it's activated.

I have a InDesign document and I am trying to export to PDF for print. My facing pages are always exported as sinlge pages and I don't know how to prevent that. I can use the interactive PDF as this is for print.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have on several occasions experienced a crash (more specifically "InDesign has stopped working and needs to close" - that's a crash I think) when moving pages between different InDesign documents (some were converted from CS3, but saved as CS6 files first). It seems to happen only betwixt select files. I have avoided a crash by moving even numbers of pages - but not always. Perhaps I am unaware of some document/spread shuffle setting?

[Document B]
Document A ends with an even (left) page. Document B starts with an odd (right) page. I want those two pages to merge into a spread when I export to PDF, which simply doesn't happen. I'm left with two single pages instead. I have tried every option under Book Page Numbering Options. All my pages and spreads are allowed to shuffle. I'm working in InDesign CS6. I've wasted two whole days trying to figure out if this is even doable.
I'm putting together a book for a client, and the publisher wants the files in a single-page layout pdf. It's a book, and I want the opposing pages to have wider spine-side margins, so I'd like to be able to set up every other page with a different master page to accomplish this. Is there any way to automatically set this up? I'd hate to have to go through and manually select every other page of a 200+ page document and set the appropriate master page.

On pages based on this master page, I'd like to put individual text into this frame, or at least the exact location. Then, when I change the position of the textrame on the master page, the position of all textframes of the pages follow suit.
I'm consolidating several book chapters into one Indesign file, by way of clicking on the thumbnails on the Pages panel and selecting 'Move Pages...' from the contextual menu.
The problem I'm having is that I can't maintain the page flow between chapters on the destination file, resulting in a broken spread between chapters when exporting to PDF. Here's a screenshot to better illustrate the problem, here seen in between pages 18-19:
I've tried turning on and off the following options on both the source and destination documents but nothing changes:
- Allow Selected Spread To Shuffle
- Allow Document Pages To Shuffle
I've also removed all the sections from the destination document (as you can see on the screenshot, page 19 does not have the little black arrow which denotes a new section), with no luck either.
I also tried dragging the thumbnails manually but to no avail; I just can't figure out how to keep the page spreads between chapters together.
what's the biggest filesize in terms of pages that you people have handled? I have handled a file with 84 pages, it was 122 mb in filesize. I split it into two parts for smooth working.

Is there any way different than drag and drop for moving pages in multiple pages designs. I have some presentation designs lately and have to change pages numbers or move multiple pages.
Drag and drop is not user friendly on 30-50 pages documents.

I am working on creating a book layout for print. I opened the .doc file through my Mac text editor and placed in InDesign CC as a text flow. I am working on adding design elements now (after I adjusted the page layout of the text on all the pages) and blank pages keep inserting themselves in weird places (for instance page 7 will suddenly turn into a blank page and my text will move itself down while design elements such as chapter headings will stay in the place where I put them, but then be completely out of place according to where the text is now). I have tried to adjust it every way I can think of--- by moving all of the text up onto the new blank page and re-aligning the chapter headings, by moving the blank pages to the end of the book and deleting them, and of course, by just simply deleting them. (Deleting them just causes the layout to become mis-aligned even worse, and just re-adds the blank page I attempted to delete.)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI created a 6.25 in wide doc in ID, exported it to PDF. PDF printed doc at 5.5 in wide. I sent PDF file to coworker, who printed it to several other printers in office: same wrong-sized results. Packaged and emailed original ID doc to our local printer, who opened my original ID file and--without making any changes to it--exported to PDF and got a perfect 6.25 size! She had no idea why it didn't convert properly on my software, since it worked perfectly for her.
So, it's my software, and it's a recurring problem: I've created other PDF docs in the last few months that printed incorrectly. That's professionally embarrassing, especially since I make quite a few PDF docs for work.
I am using original discs with serial number stickers for CS3 extended and CS4 on a 2008 MBP with 10.8.
Problem1:
While still having CS3 installed, and reinstalling CS4, the correct serial # request of pre upgrade version CS3 was repeatedly rejected. So I removed everything Adobe from HD, ran Adobe cleaner which found nothing.
Problem 2:
Now I am unable to install CS3 as I get "problem with installation, contact Adobe" message.I manually removed everything Adobe related from HD to no avail.
I have an ID-book made out of 10 InDesign documents. Everything is fine, but one thing.
One of the chapters (#4) is made out of two ID documents: "chapter4a.indd“ and "chapter4b.indd". The chapter number, which is automatically given by the book, is correct: 4. But the numbering of the next below level (4.x) is wrong. In the file „chapter4a.indd“ I have the sub-chapters 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3. But in the „chapter4b.indd“ it starts yet again with 4.1 instead of 4.4.
Where is the mistake?
Merging the two ID files "chapter4a.indd“ and "chapter4b.indd" into one is not an option, unfortunately.
Is it possible to let the sublevel chapter number (4.x) continue after the ID-document change or does it start always at ".1" once again because it's in a new document?
I am formatting a Bible for a client. The text was provided with verse numbers before each verse, but each chapter is one long paragraph. Now the client has decided they want each verse to begin a new paragraph. How can I globally insert an End of Paragraph mark before each superscrpt verse number?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've opened an older InDesign document (I don't know with which version it was created) and found odd little number/letter "coordinates" [Example: 21W(13)] displayed beneath each and every text box in the document. They are the same color as the layer they inhabit, they don't disappear when I turn off invisibles, they move with the text box, they don't appear under image boxes, and the numbers are all different but the "W" always follows the first number. After some experimenting I learned that the number in parens refers to character count. I can't figure out what the "number/W" signifies. I've searched all over the web for information about this and found nothing. I've checked preferences, palettes, settings, views, etc. and also found nothing. I've worked in InDesign since its inception and have never seen such a thing. The styles in the document are all messed up, I'm wondering if these numbers are causing the problem. Can they be shut off? What are they? Does this have something to do with InCopy?
View 1 Replies View Relatedit's my job to create drawings for patent applications, and These drawings usually consist of multiple pages with one or more drawings on each page. Each of these drawings has to be given it's own unique identifier (for example Fig. 1, Fig.2 etc).
In the process of designing a complete patent application it is often necessary to change the order of figures around and/or add new ones, remove old ones and so on. Now we get to the macro part.
What I need is a macro that identifies an artistic text placeholder (let's say <figures>) and replaces it with a text that says "Fig. x", x being counted upwards starting from 1. In essence I need the macro to count how many times it has already replaced <figures>, and insert the correct number. After the macro has done it's work I want every placeholder replaced with "Fig.1" or "Fig. 2".
In Word you can do a search for an indefinite number of words between quotation marks. I don't see a way to do that in indesign. If I choose a wildcard character it'll give me only one character between quotation marks. I need to find anything I've put between quotes. anything from a word to a paragraph. Is there a way?????
I've found this grep code that will find any text between parentheses and it works, but I'm not smart enough to figure out how to change it to quotes.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm reconstructing an old document originally developed with PageMaker. I've recreated a half dozen pages hopefully with more uniform techniques. The original line art for the pages was created in AutoCad and some were scans. To bring them into InDesign some of the art is now in psd format and some of the newer art is in Illustrator AI format.
I've noticed that the pages with photoshop art print pretty quickly (about 30 seconds). The ones with Illustrator art take much longer (about 1:30 seconds). They go through a flattening process.
I print these 50 page books on demand and that additional time would add about an hour.
I guess the question is whether this is normal and to be expected or not. If it is I'll likely turn everything into raster before going into InDesign. That, however, seems like quite a bit of extra work. Going from AutoCad to Illustrator (to add stroke) then to PhotoShop to change to raster and then into InDesign seems like a pretty convoluted work flow.
