Illustrator :: How To Use Fill For A Country Without Creating Polygons
Feb 23, 2013
I have Ai CS5, and I was wondering how can I use fill for a country without creating polygons.
For example I have a map in Ai and then I outline it in pen. Now how can I fill each state without having to trace each individual state in pen..because when I do this the state lines overlap and look bad. Like if I trace Washington and Oregon, the borders overlap unless I just trace the border line once in pen...but then I cannot fill the states because they are not separate polygons but a continuous line. How can I fill the states if they are not selectable polygons??
Or how can I make the states selectable polygons without having the borders overlap and look messy?
For my job here I have a contoured map of a sand structure. I have converted that entire 2D map into a 3D map. Showing the elevation of the contours relative to the surface. I need to know how you can hatch or fill in with color the 3d polygons that are shaping the subsurface. When i try to hatch it, it works but it just pastes it at the surface at Z:0 and even if i bring that hatch down it won't form to the multidimensional polygon that i am trying to cover. Here is a pic of what I am trying to do.
The green / blue is the fault plane i have been able to plot as well as shade in using 3D Face, but the problem I run into for the RED contour lines is that they are arcs and when i use 3D Face it doesn't allow it to bend to conform with the arc shape.
I have a drawing (.dwg) file. It is having so many polygons created by polyline. I want to fill up those polygons by a color. How can I do the same in AutoCAD?
I am creating a simple spider for a project. Initally I used the pen tool to make legs. It worked for a bit then all the sudden started filling in an area I didn't even draw with color. I'm not sure what I did to cause this to happen.
So basically i have designed the top of a paper plane and have completed the top design which i now want to clip into the template using the clipping mask tool. I have used it exactly how it is supposed to'
1. firstly getting my shape that i want to use to clip exactly how i want it
2. then getting my image which i want to place under my first shape to use the clipping mask with
3. align it in place and bring my "shape" to the front and image to the back then using the selection tool i select all objects then click objects> clipping mask> make
and for some reason it clips it but the image that i wastring to clip just becomes a white fill...
I would like to change address and country for receiving invoices. How can I change it?I have avaliable now only Poland as a destination country, but I live now in Norway.
I am building some geometry and need to fill in this area, (ie fill hole with polygons then clean up with split polygon tool) but I am new to nurbs and am trying to do this model with nurbs. I usually use hull mode and move the hull down into the piece of geometry, but it won't move correctly that way.
So in the picture below i am trying to fill the red area and have it go into the green surface. The curvature of the green area makes it not line up correctly(ie fitting to the curvature of the green surface) when using the "moving hulls" approach. I was seeing if there was an easy way to go about this.
I am having trouble when tracing a sketch to convert it to vector. I have tried scanning it into photoshop first then exporting it to illustrator, and also just scanning in as a jpeg and opening it in illustrator.
The trouble I am experiencing is that the lines are not clean, but appearing very grainy. When i choose Fills I get the best result, but with Strokes i get 2 thin lines and obviouly no fill.
Either way I can make the color of the lines all the same, but am unable to create objects within the lines to fill with color, such as face, sunglasses, etc. I can do it with live paint but I know there are other ways to color in files in AI.
Here are the original, the fill, and the stroke result outcomes
I have a minor problem with creating some polygons on the edge of the window - inner and outer side. As you can see here: I need to connect neighbouring vertex and I do not want to do it manually by creating polygons one by one. Isn´t there any modificator in max I could use to do that automatically??
I am working on a project using polygons—a pentagon, specifically—and I want all of the sides to be 2 in. The radius doesn't matter to me. I can't figure out if there is any way to do this. I am using CS5.
I am building a compass rose by using the star tool with 4 points and adding straignt lines from the end points to the corresponding end point. Ultimately, I'll replicate the whole image with some scaling, copy it 3 times, and rotate each 22.5 degrees to create the final rose.
I want give some 3D effects by shading half of each point on the star but it's actually a polygon (the star) with a straight lines splitting the points. To shade I need to have the star actually be 8 triangles that I can fill (4 of them).
Other than tracing to create one of the triangles (and then do some replacation and transforms to locate) is there another way to convert to star polygon and the straight lines into the triangles?
I traced an image earlier, expanded it then wanted to change the line colour. For some reason I couldn't get this to work even though I've done it in the past. So, I used the magic wand to select the line then dragged it into my new document and changed the line colour.
Now, I want to change the fill on certain sections, however when I change the stroke it changes the colour of the line and when I change the fill it changes the color of the line.
So I downloaded Ai cs2 the other day. Whenever I come to drawing polygons with the pen tool I set the fill to a colour and the stroke to none(/) just so i can produce block colour shapes without an outline. However When ive come to do it on cs2 the pen tool only lets me draw thin black lines.
I have a logo made up of multiple (5) polygons. I see how to use one of the polygons to create a clipping mask but haven't been able to figure out whether (and how) to use all 5.
Can you use multiple polygons as a clipping mask? Or any other method to produce the same effect?
I spend 12 hours a day in illustrator and some functionality seems to simplistic and ultimately annoying.I'm using Windows 7 64bit. Adobe Illustrator CS6
1. Please auto switch between Stroke fill and fill when I select text. 99% of my time is spent only using fill on text. I would rather manually switch to Stroke when I want to add a fill to it rather having to switch to fill each time.
2. Same for Stroke, from point 1.
3. Add an auto layer for Guides. When I am using the Scissors tool, the majority of the time I don't want to cut my guides up, I would rather instead cut up the shape below it. Again manually changing the layer to select the guide would be preferable.
4. I personally never use the Eraser tool and I switch to the Scissors Tool. Without fail every time I launch Illustrator I have to switch from the Eraser Tool too the Scissors tool. Please add cookies or something so I don't have to always switch to the Scissors Tool.
5. Move "Align to Pixel" toggle somewhere outside a file menu.
1. If you import an image with GPS data, Lightroom 4 will add appropriate values for Sublocation, City, State/Province, Country and Country Code. Is there a way to add this data to existing files while retaining history?
You can write metadata to files ([Ctrl][S]), remove those files from Lightroom and then synch folder to reimport them. That reimports them with all modified settings but without their history.
2. Is a google map link available for a GPS location of a photograph?
In Lightroom 3, you could click on the GPS location and that took you to a Google map page with a specific web link that you could then publish, eg on a blog. You can copy and paste the GPS location into a Google map page but that does not give you a web link you can use.
3. Is there a way of publishing a map?
Is there (or will there be) any way of exporting a map page, say as a jpeg?Is it OK to take a screen dump of a map page and publish it, eg in a blog?
i was not aloud to buy Lightroom5 as of "some errors" in my personal data: i supppose my card issied in RUssia, and address I indicated was my US office place. How to change the country in my profail to Russia now?
My workflow includes renaming images based on capture date and country ISO code in 3 letter format. (see: http:[url].....
When importing files with geodata my "country" metadata is filled in 2 letter format. Is trere a way to chenge this in Lightroom 5? I would like to avoid renaming my old files.
I created a template using ANZ as the base template. Now I have a requirement to change the country kit to UK. What all the things I need to change in the template to use the UK country kit.
Also when users using my template on a machine which don't have ANZ country kit installed, they getting error messages such as missing SHP files, Payload item not found.
How to fix these issue also what is the correct procedure when giving using Civil3D template who are using different country kit.
how do you create a square with a transparent fill (it has to go around part of a photograph)? I am using DP7. I can create the square with no fill, but how to get a black outline around it (to show that it's a square).
I created a volume surface between the as-built and design surfaces, now I would like to show the points that display the cut/fill depths between these two surfaces. I tried modifying the surface property of that volume surface but doesn't seem to offer what I want.
how to make a ribbon in Illustrator, but I've become confused to the second part of part 7."With the text selected, go to the Appearance Panel and add a White fill, and then a fill in a dark shade of the ribbons main color...".
I've changed one fill to white, but I don't have the option to change a second fill. If I change the Stroke color, it doesn't look like the text shown in the screenshots.
It seems I may be pressing random buttons, and I'm unable to reverse the effects they bring.First one being that all of my shapes now have these grey boxes around them that I cannot remove, cannot edit or interact with. I thought maybe they were just really annoying guides, but when I export to png to test this, low and behold there they are! How do I remove these?
Also, my shapes are not filling. When I give them a fill color, everything behind them is still showing through and the colors are not there. Every item has a different fill color, but none of these colors are showing up! because lines are showing through from the back.
When having the eyedropper tool selected, holding Shift is a shortcut to only copy the stroke or fill (depending which is up). I noticed that when I tried to copy a fill like this, it would not work. In the image, I tried copying only the fill of the red circle, and applying it to the one with a transparent fill. The circle with the transparent fill in this image is selected, but the color swatch is saying that the fill is red.
So, I have ensured that Object Selection by Path Only is unchecked in the selection and anchor display prefs. However, I still can't select an object by fill (clicking within the object). I have to go to the object edge and select the path.
