How to get lines that export with transparent "fill" without booleaning them together? When I do this the lines change so I'd like to find a way to just keep the information on top and ignore what's behind entirely (including the fill) so that I only have lines and no fills. Its for printing on fabric and such.
View 1 RepliesI'm having a problem with a logo I made which has a section of it that appears to be black fill with black stroke. However when I click on it and it shows the shape in that little preview box on the right panel, it appears grey. Then when I save it and open it in photoshop, the problem section is grey or transparent fill with black stroke. I can't seem to figure out why its doing this. There is no opacity on the object and it's clearly black in the colour settings. It used to be a gradient and I made it into a compound path to combine it with other sections but I released that and make it all solid color.

I created a vector in Adobe Illustrator and there are transparent lines running through it. There are no inconsistencies in the path and this is the only file this has happened for. They are less visible while they are on a flat vector (see image 1), but they become more visible when placed as a smart object (image 2), especially when using a 3D effect from illustrator as well (image 3).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am a bit of a newbie to illustrator cs6. I have been using the image trace function so that I can edit my hand drawn pictures. I 'Place' the scan of my drawing and then go to Object>Image Trace>Make and Expand. The problem I have is when I want to join two lines together to close the shape (as below).
I have tried simply dragging the anchor points and reshaping the line so it appeared to be closed, I have tried closing it with the pen tool and I have tried to 'path>join' them but this box comes up.
I want to be able to fill my image traces with colour easily, can this be done?

Currently designed a logo in CS6 and for my client I saved it as a PDF.
But my client complain that there is resolution error and also he needs the PDF contain only the Logo but not the white area around the logo.
I have searched many place but not sure how to make a pdf with transparrent background in Illustrator CS6.
I'm now using WIN version of AI CS6, and I've used CS4, CS5 before.Why does AI CS4(and the newers) export transparent PSD files which are always with blank transparent thin border(about 2~3px) line in the right and down side ?
This situation hasn't happened in CS3 and CS2.The PSD files I intended to export are about A4 size with 300 dpi, sometimes with 150dpi, in RGB/CMYK/Grayscale color modes.
I want to point out I am currently exporting my image by going to File>Export>.PNG>(72PPI+Transparent).The issue im running into is; for example when I am exporting text, I am also exporting a certain amount of area around my image. How can I export the exact outline of my image?
When I wanted to use my text image for a website I was building I noticed I couldn't get the image to center. I opened the image in paint and noticed I was exporting the area around my image as well and not just the image itself.
I would like to export the text outline only. As you can see in paint I am exporting a fixed area around my image.
So I've been messing with Live paint, and I've noticed that where paths overlap or abut, or even if a path was expanded to a fill, a transparent line is there. They are not always noticeable in Illustrator, but when I bring the documents into Photoshop, they're blatantly obvious!

Is there anything that I can do about this? After more than an hour of chatting with a Tech support person, we determined that turning off anti-aliasing when I open the docuement in PS will fix this, but then all the lines are jagged, so that's not a viable fix. I know I can fill these gaps in in Photoshop, but I don't think that I should have to do that, and also, with complex artwork, this isn't exactly a viable option... Am I working too small?
I recently invested in CS6 Production Premium and I've just tested legacy support by saving an Illustrator CS6 image in CS4 format.
The image contains a number of semi-transparent gradient meshes used for highlights.
Having loaded the saved CS4 .ai file in CS6, white lines appear along my semi-transparent gradient meshes (see the attached screenshot).
What's happening is that the anchor points with 0% opacity in CS6 suddenly have 100% opacity when I load the saved CS4 files in CS6.
Is this a known error? If so, how/where do I report it?

There are no white lines when I save the image in CS5 format and load it in CS6.
so in the old illustrator i was able to export to a dxf with lines and arcs and autocad options and now there is no longer a prompt for such thing and after exporting it turns a circle into little straight lines instead of arcs....
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have designed artwork that uses lots of colors and lines. Everything was pretty much designed with lines and shapes and then I used live paint to paint in certain sections. The artwork looks perfect when exported as a GIF and it appears fine in Illustrator. The problem happens when I export the document as a PDF. When I export it as a PDF, tiny white lines show up where I have invisible lines in Illustrator. These invisible lines were put there in the first place so I could have set regions for the live paint without them showing. I'm not sure why they are showing up when I export.
I have tried multiple PDF settings and also tried flattening the layers and attempting to use Transparency Flattener Presets and export it as a PDF 1.3 but it is still greyed out in the export options when I try.
I've attached a screenshot of the PDF after it has been exported to see the lines. You will notice black lines and thicker white lines (like the one at the top), these are intentional. the ones that are undesired is the thin one near the bottom whre you can see theres a break point in color and then multiple ones going up. Deleting these with live paint selection, expanding the art, using direct selection tool to delete all ruin the art flow or do not work.

I have an object that is comprised of several lines that are grouped together, and I want to fill the entire group with a fractal cloud 3-color fill. In order to do so, I am creating the fill as a background, and making the object transparent, but when I do that, all my lines disappear (of course!) but I need the lines in it for details. View 9 Replies View RelatedI traced an image earlier, expanded it then wanted to change the line colour. For some reason I couldn't get this to work even though I've done it in the past. So, I used the magic wand to select the line then dragged it into my new document and changed the line colour.
Now, I want to change the fill on certain sections, however when I change the stroke it changes the colour of the line and when I change the fill it changes the color of the line.
How do I outline a picture or shape with a path and make that path have a transparent background?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI spend 12 hours a day in illustrator and some functionality seems to simplistic and ultimately annoying.I'm using Windows 7 64bit. Adobe Illustrator CS6
1. Please auto switch between Stroke fill and fill when I select text. 99% of my time is spent only using fill on text. I would rather manually switch to Stroke when I want to add a fill to it rather having to switch to fill each time.
2. Same for Stroke, from point 1.
3. Add an auto layer for Guides. When I am using the Scissors tool, the majority of the time I don't want to cut my guides up, I would rather instead cut up the shape below it. Again manually changing the layer to select the guide would be preferable.
4. I personally never use the Eraser tool and I switch to the Scissors Tool. Without fail every time I launch Illustrator I have to switch from the Eraser Tool too the Scissors tool. Please add cookies or something so I don't have to always switch to the Scissors Tool.
5. Move "Align to Pixel" toggle somewhere outside a file menu.

How do you do a flood fill with a transparent background, I can see how i can flood fill with colors and all that fun stuff, but for the life of me i cant find a selection for transparent.

I've hit a silly problem using CS, for which there is probably a very simple solution...
Whenever I select an area and fill it with white, the white remains transparent and doesn't show at all. If I fill using any other colour, the colour fills in and shows fine. All settings such as paintbucket opacity, layer opacity etc are at 100%, unless the previous person changed something somewhere and it's not apparent,
I have a transparent logo. I've conferted it to RGB and tried using fill (it's primarily a single color except for some fading at the edges) but the results were not 100%. Rather than using Fill and leaving some scruff around the edges, can I just tell it to change ALL image bigs to a single color? How?
