View 2 RepliesI am recently getting back into using Illustrator.
I am trying to draw 2 shapes, let's say 2 circles, fill them w/colors, then have them overlap each other.
The part where they overlap creates a DIFFERENT shape. I want to fill that 3rd shapew/a different color. How do I select that 3rd shape area and fill out?
Rightly or wrongly I have a shape drawn with line sement and pen
I want to fill the inside of this white, how do I do that?
I am new to illustrator. I am used to photoshop so this is a whole new ball field. I am trying to figure out how to fill in the area to the left of the design I drew with the brush tool. I tried using the paint thing and it gives me an error message something about it is not able to do that.

I used a heart fill pattern of the right 75% of the picture and the left 75% of the picture is selected overlapping the first fill in the background... I want to fill the selected background area with a flame fill pattern where it overlaps the selected portion of the heart pattern as well as the transparent area... 'overlay' looks better but Gimp is FAILING to fill the transparent areas, it ONLY fills the overlapped heart pattern portion of the selected content!!! I even tried filling the transparent area with 'white' then filling the selected area, but it STILL ONLY wants to overlay fill the heart pattern, it STILL leaves the rest alone!!! it doesn't matter if the background is white or transparent, it leaves that alone and ONLY fills the heart pattern area of selected portion of the image!!!
I want to create an Area Type box and have all of the text line up on both the left and right sides, so I use the Justify all Lines option.
1. After doing this, is there a way to adjust the spacing of the headline? I tried adjusting the tracking, though that didn't work. Is the only way to use a separate Area Type or Point Type for the headline so it is not affected by the Justify all Lines option?
2. Is there another way to acheive what I want?
I am really new to illustrator and I need to know the answer to this question fast. If I made a weird shape with 5 different lines how would I fill it in? Nothing really happens when I select the lines and then select a color.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can change the dark color in the border to any color I want using the stroke color. But I can not change what appears to be white, the area surrounding the darker color, in the border, to any other color. If I change the fill color it changes the gold colored area. All I want is to change the white lines in the border area.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow to get lines that export with transparent "fill" without booleaning them together? When I do this the lines change so I'd like to find a way to just keep the information on top and ignore what's behind entirely (including the fill) so that I only have lines and no fills. Its for printing on fabric and such.

I would like to achieve an effect similar to that shown here with the lines going through the red and blue states - [URL] How would I go about doing that? View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a bit of a newbie to illustrator cs6. I have been using the image trace function so that I can edit my hand drawn pictures. I 'Place' the scan of my drawing and then go to Object>Image Trace>Make and Expand. The problem I have is when I want to join two lines together to close the shape (as below).
I have tried simply dragging the anchor points and reshaping the line so it appeared to be closed, I have tried closing it with the pen tool and I have tried to 'path>join' them but this box comes up.
I want to be able to fill my image traces with colour easily, can this be done?
Any way to convert area boundary lines to room separation lines?
View 1 Replies View Related it's regarding this image. Originally it was very dirty in the background (still is if you look at the striped mountains and cottage), and I've tried making it white by playing around a bit with the curve adjustments. Obviously the results weren't as white as I wanted them to be, so I decided to dodge some areas (on the other parts of this picture which I didn't include). Later on I decided to pick up the bucket tool.
It works very well, but now I'm having this problem. If you look at the red ground, it's all dotted. However, the bucket tool filled up some of these dots too, making the ground very thin.what I can do about this?how I can make the background white (the quicker the method the better!) in case the curve adjustment settings doesn't properly work?
How to fill an area with a colour in Xara 6, when that space is surrounded by different 'objects'?
So say I drew 3 separate lines to form a triangle. How can I fill that triangle with a colour? If I select the Fill Tool and choose a colour, then click in the centre of the triangle nothing happens.
If I were to do the same thing in Illustrator then it would simply create a new shape that fitted the space.
Perhaps this is not possible? Such a simple thing though, I feel I must be missing something. Is it perhaps available on Xara 7?
How do I fill in an entire area with one color, like a paint bucket on ms paint and thinks like that.

I've selected a rectangular area of a jpeg and I want to fill it with a particular colour from another area of same image. Bucket Fill doesn't work here as it only selects from particular colours and shades in forground/background.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI use Coreldraw x3 for cutting vinyl to put on shirts and windows ect. I cut on 14" and 24" rolls of vinyl. To save vinyl I make a rectangle in corel at 14x25" or 24x25" and then I put the graphics in that rectangle as snug as I can to make sure I conserve as much vinyl as possible.
I am wondering if there is a way to select my rectangle and the art that I want to piece into it and have the program automatically fill up the space as sparingly as possible. This would save me a lot of time and it would probably be more efficient for saving vinyl because corel would know the optimal way to piece the art in.
These gradients in gimp are really hard to figure out (not saying other things seem easy to me), however I'm sure if one knows what to do, they can solve many problems.
I had that screenshot of a text list:
And I wanted to make it fade away from the highlighted line:
However, with the blend tool, this is actually impossible or really really hard, because I can't aim it so preciselly.
After selecting the area type tool, I try to click and drag but I get an error message: You must click on a non-compound, non-masking path to create text inside a path. This worked before but I must have screwed something up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI traced an image earlier, expanded it then wanted to change the line colour. For some reason I couldn't get this to work even though I've done it in the past. So, I used the magic wand to select the line then dragged it into my new document and changed the line colour.
Now, I want to change the fill on certain sections, however when I change the stroke it changes the colour of the line and when I change the fill it changes the color of the line.
Is there a way how to sample from small area and then apply content aware fill to the much more bigger area? For example - there is an object on a table. The object fills 90% of the image and the table 10% image. Now, I just want to delete the object. But that doesnt work with content aware fill, because the area around it is much smaller.

View 1 Replies View RelatedCivil 3d project. My familiary with actual road construction is quite basic.
I'm at the stage where good Civil 3d practices need to be employed when generating volumes. Attach are two files showing a road section with links and layers & also, the profile.
1. Like to turn off the links first of all and show labels instead.
2. How does the total depth of the gravel road (0.3' for gravel, 0.5' for aggregate base) factor in the profile view? What shown is the EG(in green) and FG,the top of the gravel road.
3. The cross section view: Three surfaces were used, the top of the gravel, the bottom of the base and the Existing ground, Is this correct?
4. Is there two sets of Volumes? 1. Cut and Fill areas, 2. Pavement structure: Volume of the gravel and volume of the aggregate base.
5.Refer to 4. So the Cut and Fill areas need to be done first, then the pavement structure, correct. ?

1. Please auto switch between Stroke fill and fill when I select text. 99% of my time is spent only using fill on text. I would rather manually switch to Stroke when I want to add a fill to it rather having to switch to fill each time.
2. Same for Stroke, from point 1.
3. Add an auto layer for Guides. When I am using the Scissors tool, the majority of the time I don't want to cut my guides up, I would rather instead cut up the shape below it. Again manually changing the layer to select the guide would be preferable.
4. I personally never use the Eraser tool and I switch to the Scissors Tool. Without fail every time I launch Illustrator I have to switch from the Eraser Tool too the Scissors tool. Please add cookies or something so I don't have to always switch to the Scissors Tool.
5. Move "Align to Pixel" toggle somewhere outside a file menu.
