Illustrator :: Why Does AI CS4 Export Transparent PSD Files
Aug 25, 2012
I'm now using WIN version of AI CS6, and I've used CS4, CS5 before. Why does AI CS4(and the newers) export transparent PSD files which are always with blank transparent thin border(about 2~3px) line in the right and down side ?
Â
This situation hasn't happened in CS3 and CS2.The PSD files I intended to export are about A4 size with 300 dpi, sometimes with 150dpi, in RGB/CMYK/Grayscale color modes.

I have a .PSD with 43 layers that I want to export to separate files. Works just fine using Scripts > Export to Layers...
...except that there are some transparent areas in each of the layers that I want to have a specific background color (the same for all 43 layers). PS keeps making those areas white.
Setting the background color in the toolbar seems to have no effect.

My version is Corel Draw 12.
I started this exercise off using New from the File menu and then Imported a .png photo. I then feathered out the edges of the photo.
Now I have spent many, many attempts to try and Export this photo (in Corel Photo Paint) as a new .png file so that I can then use it later with other packages e.g. with the hopeful intention of it having a completely transparent background for use with say Power Point. I want the ability to take the new image with a transparent background and place it over an existing background in say PP so that the background "bleeds through" the feathered edges. What is happening is, the feathered edges that I created are no longer transparent when the image gets exported out of Corel Photo Paint as a .png file. They show up as a white glow. I was successful if I followed the steps as given by "Hunter" but I had to create the image wholly in Corel Draw using the transparency tool which does not seem to allow for feathering of the edges of an image. The only way I can see to feather the edges is by using Corel Photo Paint but then I don't get them transparent when I export the file. If I was to create an image with say a circular hole in the middle of it with NO FEATHERING ...sharp edges, all would be fine.
Is it possible to do this in Corel Draw 12?

1. Is there a plugin available to export files as pdf?
2. How to make a section of a pic transparent. I've spent a couple of hours on this now, and I've searched the documentation section, and I've searched the forums. Most specifically, how do I set a transparent color for a gif? But how do I make an AREA of ANY file transparent? One thing I tried to do was use the "Wet Floor Reflection" plugin, and it requires a transparent area below the existing image. I couldn't do that, either.

I want to point out I am currently exporting my image by going to File>Export>.PNG>(72PPI+Transparent).The issue im running into is; for example when I am exporting text, I am also exporting a certain amount of area around my image. How can I export the exact outline of my image?
When I wanted to use my text image for a website I was building I noticed I couldn't get the image to center. I opened the image in paint and noticed I was exporting the area around my image as well and not just the image itself.
Â
I would like to export the text outline only. As you can see in paint I am exporting a fixed area around my image.

How to get lines that export with transparent "fill" without booleaning them together? When I do this the lines change so I'd like to find a way to just keep the information on top and ignore what's behind entirely (including the fill) so that I only have lines and no fills. Its for printing on fabric and such.

A simple action.
Â
File>Export>.bmpCloseÂ
Â
If I run the action on one file, it works perfect.
If I try to run it as a batch, it creates the bmp files fine.
But it also creates either a .ai file, or two .eps files!
Â
Writing one or two extra files signifiantly shows the process down.
Â
After I run the batch it is not hard to simply delete the extra .eps/ai files of course.Â
Â
But writing those files seriously slows the process down, and I have about 89,000 more files to go.

I have been opening my Illustrator vector images in Photoshop to save as JPGs today. All was working fine when all of a sudden I open in PShop, Now all I get is a transparent box. On both rasterized and non rasterized images. This is the latest trial AI/CC by the way. Restarted both programs.

I am working on a print ad that got 4C visuals and 1C (100 K) visuals, when I submit the high res PDF to the publication, they requested a PDF file with separate layers for these 2 visuals so that the colors will not merge with the 1C visual. Is this possible?

Im trying to turn some vector images into a dxf file for laser cutting and im constantly banging my head against a wall with it as the files just wont work once converted over to dxf or dwg files.I have a vector image in CS6 and have also tried in older CS5 or CS4, the image is already a .ai file and all the anchors and outline look fine so I make any small changes like spacing etc, I then try to save as a dwg or dxf in all different save preferences but normally as R13 dwg.
Â
When I take this or any of my saved files into the cad software the laser machine software does not generally recognise there are even lines there so I started taking it into draftsite and saving as a R12 DXF which works but the dwg or dxf exported out of illustrator have sometimes hundreds of anchor points which where not there when it was a vector or the anchor points are not actually on the lines anymore they are way off outside the drawing.
Â
How can I export out of illustrator without getting all these problems, I have many files I need to get turned into workable dxf files.

In Illustrator CS5, how can I save or export a set of Artboards in a given .ai file to separate SVG files?
Â
The 'Use Artboards' feature is on the Save As... dialog but it's disabled. It looks like there was an extension (Illustrator HTML5 Pack for CS5) available at one time but its appears to have been removed from Adobe's site.

This may have a simple solution (and probably does), but I can't find it. What I'm trying to do is to import an AI 5.1 file into AE 5.5 as original vectors. I need to be able to scale up to about 12,000 percent and then back down to 100 percent for the effect of an extreme closeup being zoomed out of. The point of vectors, of course, is that you can do this without losing resolution... but no matter what I try, AI files keep being imported as raster files. When they're scaled up enough, the pixilation starts.

I found a script that does the job, export tones of ai files to pdf, but I have some files which are in sub folders, and I was trying to find a way to modify this script to include subfolder, but no luck.
Adobe permits you to use, modify, and distribute this file in accordance with the termsof the Adobe license agreement accompanying it. if you have received this file from a source other than Adobe, then your use, modification,or distribution of it requires the prior written permission of Adobe.
Â
This sample gets files specified by the user from the selected folder and batch processes them and saves them as PDFs.
Â
Edits by Patrick Mineault:
- only .ai files processed
- files saved in same folder as the input files
- export files have name (oldname).pdf
- PDF settings: editable / acrobatLayers=true for maximum compatibility with Preview
Â
// Main Code [Execution of script begins here]
// uncomment to suppress Illustrator warning dialogs
// app.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevel.DONTDISPLAYALERTS;
var destFolder, sourceFolder, files, fileType, sourceDoc, targetFile, pdfSaveOpts;
// Select the source folder.
sourceFolder = Folder.selectDialog( 'Select the folder with Illustrator .ai files you want to convert to PDF');
[code]...

Any way within AI CS4 to export layers to separate .ai files? Or third party plug-in to do the same? Preferably retaining the layer name as the new file name.
Â
I have a layered .ai file with 40 layers of logo versions that I need to export to separate files and I'd like to avoid the obvious "save as" and delete layers route.

I am trying to export a PAIR of vector files as PNG-24's, one at 72 ppi and the second at 150 ppi, Illustrator CC.
Â
I also want both exported files to have a different SIZE that their existing (and of course, completely arbitrary) vector dimensions.
Â
If I use Save for Web in Illustrator CC, I can indeed change the size, BUT I can't specify a resolution!
Â
On the other hand if I try to do a File > Export, I can easily specify the resolution as 150 ppi, BUT I can't change the size!
Â
If I go 'way back to my Illustrator CS4 version, there was a toolbar display of the selected object's (or group's) physical dimensions - see the attached image - but I can't seem to find it in the CC version of Illustrator.
Â
As Retina resolution images have been around for several years, it would be useful to be able to have complete control over how vector images created in Illustrator could be output at 150 ppi AND with the ability to specify the physical size. And, being able to write an action to export the pair of different resolution images would be even better.

I created an Action to batch export a folder of .ai files to create 300dpi .png's of the .ai file's artboard. I did this by simply recording "Export...as png" with my desired settings then Batch running the Action on desired folder of .ai files. The files were successfully exported, the trouble is that the exported files lack a .png file extension. My intent is to take these PNG files and merge them into a single PDF using Acrobat Pro. Unfortunatly, without the .PNG extension, Acrobat Pro does not recognize the file types and does not let me use the Combine Files feature on them. Going back and manually adding a .png at the end of the exported files defeats the time-saving purpose of Batch Processing all together. Is there something I am missing or doing incorrectly? I have included screenshots of 1) My Batch Action settings 2) folders showing files without .png extension and 3) visual of what I see when I am trying to combine PNGs into a PDF.

Im sure there must be something im missing here with the PNG export settings. I like the way the new export window appears but I cant figure out how to export from Draw to a PNG with a transparent matte of a color picked color.
How I did it in X4 was to chose to export to PNG, and when the window appeared to select a color for the transparent area, a color picker was used. Whatever I do with X5, i cant do it .

I just upgraded to CS4 and have come across something curious. In previous versions, to export a transparent image, you would go to "help" and select "export transparent image." No such thing in CS4 (that I can find).
I am trying to create a transparent image to place in InDesign so that I can wrap text around my image. But when I save it as a PSD, it doesn't allow the text wrap.

I have a very simple psd image. It has a transparent background and 3 short text phrases, each in its own layer. I need this image with transparent background for a website. When I use the Export Transparent Image function and save as a PNG, I get a white background. I've been messing with settings for over an hour.

I sell a template that has a transparent layer in sections, after saving as jpeg it is supposed to go white, but for some of my customers it recently started going black!I at first thought it had to do with not pasting the layers correctly, but its like this after export, so I don't think that should matter...I've attached a sample image so you can see what is happening. Where it is black, it was originally transparent around the circle image, and normally would save white.

I'm working with a production house to generate transparent PNG files of pieces of content. These output images must meet a fixed height and width (in pixels). We're providing a MS Word file with a template that has both text and a MathType equation. The vendor uses this as a starting point, and will export the same equation as a transparent PNG file.
The vendor is using CorelDraw to: transfer text and MathType equations out of a Microsoft Word document into a template in a CDR file select and export the resulting component(s) as a transparent PNG file
FONT MISMATCH: We have a reference PNG file that we've generated as pixel map directly from an XML version of a piece of sample content. We've found that the vendor's sample PNG file is much larger in filesize than the reference PNG file, though it has the same dimensions.
I'm wondering if it is related to a settings issue in CorelDraw due to a weird font size mismatch. Viewing our reference PNG on-screen on my MacBook Pro (OS X Lion), the font matches 26pt in my text editor at 100% view, which is the same font size we use in our source Word document. The vendor (using a PC overseas) has to shrink the font size after transfer into CorelDraw to 6.2pt font, which visually matches our reference on my screen.
TECHNICAL DETAILS: I've used the "identify -verbose" command in ImageMagick to isolate a few other key differences between our source PNG file and the vendor's sample PNG file. In addition a significantly larger number of rows of Histogram information (source=65 rows; vendor=256 rows), there are a handful of other discrepancies (in bold):
Source PixelMap PNG
Resolution: 72x72
Print size: 6.94444x3.31944
Units: Undefined
Channel statistics:
  Gray:
    min: 0 (0)
[code]...
I've attached a text file with the ImageMagick details for each PNG file. changes to the CorelDraw settings or process to better align the output file with the source. I'm also open to exporting the selected component(s) in a different format (e.g., EPS or TIF) and then converting to PNG with another utility.
