Photoshop :: Auto Populating Text Fields. Text Insert ?
Sep 20, 2005how do I insert text faster? Attached is a screen capture of my set-up. I am bulding a plaque. how to set up "pre-determined" text fields that populate from an internal or external text? Right now I have to >duplicate layer>drag layer to new spot>enter in new text. It would be really neat if PS could populate from a file like web-site populate pages from other text files.

Nov 20, 2012I spend 12 hours a day in illustrator and some functionality seems to simplistic and ultimately annoying.I'm using Windows 7 64bit. Adobe Illustrator CS6
1. Please auto switch between Stroke fill and fill when I select text. 99% of my time is spent only using fill on text. I would rather manually switch to Stroke when I want to add a fill to it rather having to switch to fill each time.
2. Same for Stroke, from point 1.
3. Add an auto layer for Guides. When I am using the Scissors tool, the majority of the time I don't want to cut my guides up, I would rather instead cut up the shape below it. Again manually changing the layer to select the guide would be preferable.
4. I personally never use the Eraser tool and I switch to the Scissors Tool. Without fail every time I launch Illustrator I have to switch from the Eraser Tool too the Scissors tool. Please add cookies or something so I don't have to always switch to the Scissors Tool.
5. Move "Align to Pixel" toggle somewhere outside a file menu.

Mar 5, 2014I'd like to make it easier for our 100,000 designers to use AI to make custom products using a laser cutter.
Current Practice
Designers open our AI laser cutting design templates, add their designs using the AI settings our online pricing system can read, then upload their designs to our website for instant pricing, making and shipping.
The Problem
Designers have to manually setup AI with settings that can be read by our online pricing system. If they get these settings wrong, our system can not read their designs. So they are rejected and can not be priced or made. This happens more often that you'd imagine.
The Solution
Designers do not like design rejections. So I'd like to eradicate them by providing our designers with a version of AI that provides the following settings only:
* Set document to RGB
* Stroke weight = 0.01mm
* Stroke colors = RGB 0, 0, 255 and 255, 0, 0
* Fill color = RGB 0, 0, 0
This will mean designers have a very limited number of AI choices, with nothing to distract them or to get wrong. Which will result in less (or zero?) design rejections. And products made faster than before. Rejoice!
Question
How do we program our AI laser cutting design templates so that when they are opened in AI, they auto set AI settings as defined above?
AutoCAD Inventor :: Using Model Dimensions To Fill LENGTH / WIDTH Fields In Drawing Parts List
Mar 1, 2013In our “Parts list” (or BOM as we call it) on our .idw’s we have field for “LENGTH”. For example, we use round tubing. We would list the cut length of that piece of tube in the “LENGTH” column. As it stands now, we add “LENGTH” as a custom iproperty in the .ipt. Then in the drawing we add that property to the parts list to capture the length. This works fine, but I’m wondering if we can eliminate some steps by capturing the actual dimension from the sketch to automatically populate the “LENGTH” value. Needless to say, this would eliminate room for error (less typing) and will update the value automatically if length is changed or if the part is copied. I suppose the same would apply for “WIDTH” on sheet metal parts... How do I do this?

Jul 25, 2013I frequently create labels that follow the same format: white text on a 75% opaque black background, with 10px of margin around the text. Currently, I have to manually build these labels, which takes a lot of work. In one method, I write the text, figure out its height and width, then create a separate rectangle and place it behind it. This takes a lot of clicking around for every label.
In the other method, I draw out a text box, select it directly, give it the correct background and margins, and then insert the text. However, I must then resize the box manually, meaning more clicking around and greater imprecision. There doesn't seem to be a way to directly select a text box once it has text inside it.
I tried using the script contained in a related answer to resize the text box to the content, but it only resizes the box vertically, and removes my color and margins.
I'm using CS3.
Illustrator :: How To Auto-scale Area-text Bounding Box
May 21, 2013I'm using Illustrator CS6 with a file that someone else produced. Many of the area text bounding boxes are way bigger than they need to be. In Freehand, I used to be able to double-click on a corner of the bounding box and the box would automatically resize itself to just fit around the text (loved that feature!). Is there something similar in Illustrator? Or do I need to go through and manually resize all the bounding boxes by dragging them smaller?

May 14, 2013When I Place an Illustrator file inside onather illustrator file, the overprint elements failed to be overprint.
Why? Is there a bug because I use CS6, but when I tried using CS5.5 it works without any problems.
Here I created a file called single.ai, and set the text to Overprint Fill.
Here when you hide black color the orange color filled completely.
Then I created a file called Multiple, and placed then repeated it.
But as you see when I hide the black color the orange filled is etched (spoiled).

Oct 8, 2012I need to create a text with a rectangle background and a coloured border around this rectangle. Here is what I do:
- I create a text
- I select the text and add a fill and a stroke that I then transform into a rectangle
- I now have my "label" as I want it to be but now I need to rotate it.
Problem is I can rotate the text but fill and stroke don't follow, they remain horizontal and just adapt so that it still fits the text. As a result I have a rotated font with a big rectangle box. Can I rotate fill+stroke with the text?
Illustrator :: Fill And Text Editing On Excel Imported Bar Graph
Feb 1, 2013I am trying to modify a bar graph that I have imported as a pdf from excel, and am having some trouble with customizing the color fill on the bars of the bar graph. When I select the object/bar and then fill with a different color, I see no change. However the menu shows the new color I selected for that particular object. Is there something weird about the type of object that the bar is when it is imported from excel?
OK I figured out that for some reason the bars on the bar graph are imported as clipping masks - very weird, you need to release the clipping mask, deselect the bar, select and delete the background shading, then fill the bar (which was previously the mask, I believe?) Why excel exports like this?
I notice something similar with the imported text labels associated with the same graph. When I select the text and change the font size, for some strange reason it can size up (say, from 10pt to 12pt) but not down (day, from 10pt to 8pt) It seems weird when I try to edit it at all really, as if the element was not a text element, is there some way to convert it to a text object? Ok this is working properly now, don't know why it was wonky before.
I am using CS5 with a Mac running 10.7.5
Also I am using excel for mac 2011
Illustrator :: Imported Image Comes Small And With Low Resolution When Trying To Fill Text
Sep 6, 2013I am trying to fill my text with a texture or image.
Heres my process:
I type my text, select it and click on the "draw inside" button.
I then go to place and select my image.
The image comes tiny with dimensions of x- 430mm and y-340mm.
Obviously when i stretch it out to cover the text, the image becomes blurry. Whats happening here?
Illustrator :: CS6 - How To Remove Black Shadows From Text With Gradient Fill
Mar 21, 2013I am using CS6. I have created some text with a gradient fill. I have converted it to shapes before addin the Fill. I appear to get a slight black shadow arround the letters. This appears to get worse when I Export it to png with a transparent background. This black shadow is not a stoke that I have added.
How can I remove this black effect?

Jun 27, 2012I have a template for name tags for an upcoming event. I am trying to input a series of pictures into them,. TIFF files if that matters, add the multiply channel, then fill up the page.
Once the 8 per sheet are filled up, to save, and fill up a second sheet, then continue until finished.
Is this possible in photoshop, if so how?

Oct 1, 2013Is there any way to make print merge fields relative in position to other fields or to non-variable text.
For example if I am doing address labels and I have fields for City and State:
Their positions are absolute, and the state ends up overwriting the city for long city text, as does the comma.
What I want is for the comma to follow the last letter of the city, and then state to follow that.
And yes, I realize that I can combine all three into one field, but I am asking this as a general usage of the feature. One doesn't always have control over the source.

CorelDRAW X3 :: Easy / Auto Fill A Specific Area
Oct 5, 2012I use Coreldraw x3 for cutting vinyl to put on shirts and windows ect. I cut on 14" and 24" rolls of vinyl. To save vinyl I make a rectangle in corel at 14x25" or 24x25" and then I put the graphics in that rectangle as snug as I can to make sure I conserve as much vinyl as possible.
I am wondering if there is a way to select my rectangle and the art that I want to piece into it and have the program automatically fill up the space as sparingly as possible. This would save me a lot of time and it would probably be more efficient for saving vinyl because corel would know the optimal way to piece the art in.

Feb 17, 2013I traced an image earlier, expanded it then wanted to change the line colour. For some reason I couldn't get this to work even though I've done it in the past. So, I used the magic wand to select the line then dragged it into my new document and changed the line colour.
Now, I want to change the fill on certain sections, however when I change the stroke it changes the colour of the line and when I change the fill it changes the color of the line.

Jan 13, 2012I'm using AutoCAD LT 2012 and our client doesn't want/like sheet sets.
One item I'd love to have is the pg. number automated. In the current title block it's just text not an attribute. Is there a way I can take only a part of the file name and insert it as a field?
For example, the file name is DW_12321_12.dwg the last part of the name is the sheet number. Can I exclude everything but the 12 and insert just that into the field?

Nov 27, 2013i have a drawing boarder that is a block with enter-able text fields for drawing revision etc but for some reason the order in which you would enter the rev's 1,2,3, etc is the wrong way round in the enhanced attribute box. So when i click and start typing i end up with 3,2,1 in the rev boxes.

Apr 10, 2013As you can see by the image below, my menu bar titles at the top are small and blurry, plus anywhere there is a text field box (i.e. length & width text fields in the Image Size window) it is collapsed vertically and therefore I can't see what my values are. You can also see the 3 check mark boxes at the bottom of the Image Size window are cut off. I previously had CS6 installed on a Window XP machine without any issues. Now that I have "upgraded" to Window 7, this is what I get for results after the install.
