Dec 19, 2013I just finished 'updating' my VBA code developed over the last 10 years from 'VBA 6' to 'VBA 7'. When i view the code in the IDE of AutoCAD 2014, everything shows up fine -- no errors. All of the references i need do exist:

When i goto Debug-> Compile, it 'compiles' without errors. But when i go to run it, it will crash. If i put in a breakpoint, and step through it, i can identify a subroutine that it crashes on. But if i do it again and step INTO that sub, it runs fine. If i have the code just continue on, it will crash somewhere else. Basically for the most part, if i run a macro and have a breakpoint right away, i can put my stapler on the F8 key and just sit back and watch it run (although a 10 second process turns into about half an hour) -- it gets much further along but will still eventually crash.
By the way, the same basic code runs fine on 32bit AutoCAD 2012 (with the appropriate references changes as well as no 'PtrSafe' or LongLong or LongPtr usages)

Mar 1, 2008I just want to keep a part of my image (in that case the bird). Then I cut that part, erase the part of the picture I don't need, and I stick the part with the bird. To finish, I resize the frame so it is adjusted to the part I want to keep (the bird). (Hem... I suppose there is a more easy way to do all that, but I don't know it.
Here is the question : how can I save that part of my original picture WITHOUT compressing it again? I don't want to lose any quality of the previewsly picture ; since I just want to save a part, is this possible?

Feb 28, 2013Many times I want to upload photos of myself to websites as profile photos or for other professional reasons. I have some examples but they're too large. Most of these sites ask for photos no larger than 120x100 or 240x260. When I resize my photos smaller, they appear very blurry and pixel.
What's a way around that so I can meet the compression requirements of these sites without compromising the integrity of the photo?
AutoCad :: Significantly Compress A DWG?
Jun 6, 2012I'm a mechanical engineer with a lot of experience working with SolidWorks, but no experience with AutoCAD. My boss has asked me to take a 44MB .DWG and compress it to under 15MB so that it can be viewed on his iPad to show to clients (using the AutoCAD WS which is limited to opening files smaller than 15MB). I spent hours doing this several weeks ago and was just barely able to get it down to the required size. However, I was never able to repeat the process and to be honest, I'm not entirely sure how I did it. Now I have to do it again for a different file and am struggling to do so.
Since the file is just going to be quickly shown to clients it does not need to have all 400 layers or any other kind of accompanying details. Hell I could merge all the layers together if that would reduce the file size and I knew how to do that. I'm not at my work computer right now, but I think by clicking options under save and removing all proxy images (or something like that) I was able to reduce the file size to around17MB. I've purged the file as well but that only removed a few KB.

Share > Create Video File > Same as First Video Clip. The progress will go through to 90%, then I will get the error message:
Unable to compress the audio [17103:10:5]
Decompress the original won't be a choice when hundreds tasks are out there.

Jul 17, 2011I set up a text box, for say the word "Tractor". Let's say that with the font I select, the width of the text box is 2 inches. I want to be able to replace the text, with say the phrase "Green Tractor" and I want the text to automatically compress in width to be no longer than the original 2 inches and I want the text height to be the same as the first.
I know I can select the text box handle and re-size manually but I am entering many fields for each print job and I need it to do this automatically. Also if I entered the word "toy", I would not want the word to stretch to fill the 2 inches but retain standard proportions.
My Engrave Lab program does this on our engraver and I am basically trying to do the same function in Corel for our sublimation printing operation.

Apr 27, 2012I decided to use Data Link Tables for my Excel sheet instead of OLELinks. The appearance is far sharper, and I am also pleased there is no background color transfered. What IS the problem is when I update the table, its goes from 12" Wide by 12" Tall table @ 7/16" Text W/O borders back to 3" Wide by 10" Tall with varying text size to fit and gains back all borders except diagonals (of which none are present on the Excel file).
So, any way to default the format when I refresh so that it holds each cell at the 6"X1" dimensions with no border.
With that, If there is a way to have a stencil for making the range links with Excel, that would be useful. I use the exact same 4 or 6 ranges (2 formats) in every dwg.

I import my AutoCAD 2011 drawings into a CNC however the software isn't happy if a line is drawn on top of another line. If this happens it is not obvious simply by looking at the drawing and I have to go through the drawing checking each and every line which can be quite time consuming.

Jun 18, 2013am having an Issue with CS6 when saving files. When saving a file using the 'Save' option (not 'Save As') the file is not staying at the size of the artboard as it should, it is however being aurtomatically cropped down to the actual artwork size. This is causing issues with the Process we work with as we need the file to stay at the artboard size.If I click 'Save As' and change the Adobe PDF Preset to 'Press Quality' then this works, however this means that every file we save(which is quite alot in a day) means we have to go through the 'Save As' option and manually change each save.why this has suddenly started to happen with our Illustrators and do you know how to fix this so that it stays at the Artboard size when 'Save' is used?

Feb 3, 2014So, I'm trying to create a repeat pattern of a Balloon illustration I've done in Adobe Illustrator. I've got the singular file (balloon.ai), which weighs in at around 700MB.
Now I'm trying to create the repeat of this pattern on a separate Artboard which will repeat these balloons, 30 balloons per repeat square to be precise.
What would be the best way to import these separate balloons into the repeat square once (as they're the same file) without affecting the weight of the file and performance of Illustrator?
So, in essence, is there a way to import that balloon.ai file and only have it use up 700MB on the page rather than 30x700MB by the time I've placed 30 balloons?
I can't rasterize the files as the printer needs the raw file.

Dec 5, 2012Open an .AI file saved on a netapp or windows shared directory with full permissions (prior to saving I noted that all security groups are intact in file properties as we have 2 for read and write access)Make any changesTry to save and get the prompt: Can’t save preview, but all other information was saved successfully. The file couldn’t be found. ID = -43 (file is now corrupted and looking in security group file properties the 2 security groups designated for read and write access for the directory is now gone and shows an unknown security group????)
Save as works without a problem. Try to press save again and get This file has been modified outside Illustrator. Do you want to continue?Continue and prompted This file cannot be foundObviously the file preview icon goes from a thumbnail of the file to a generic iconWhen I try to open the file I get: Can’t open the illustration. The file is locked or in use.It led me to believe the issue was either OS X or CS5.5. I was able to open the file fine on Windows Illustrator CS5.5 make a slight change and resaved (which fixed the file and opens again in OS X and read/write security groups show up again?)Optionally, I was also able to fix the file to where I could open it in OS X by simply giving myself Read/Write access to the file from Get Info
Notes:No issues with the same file in 10.7.x.
I've tested on all available Mac Pro / MacBook Pro machines and issue doesn't seem to happen on MacBook Pro retina?Photoshop and InDesign not affected

THey all started out the same, but I edited them and then did a save as, but the file icon image didn't update. How can I fix this? Sep 15, 2013I would like to create a master background layer that multiple pages will be built over, while retaining the ability to edit the master background layer after-the-fact which will automatically change all the subsequent pages.
Similar to how an include file would work on a webpage, ie: create the menu as an include file, then all pages that reference that include file would have their menus changed when that single include file gets modified.
Or another way of looking at it: like how headers/footers work in word, ie: change the header or footer and all pages in that document are automatically modified.

Sep 12, 2013I designed artwork for a large banner (84" x 32") so my AI artboard is that large. As you can imagine, with all the text and graphics I used, this file size is 22.8 MB. I need to email this art to the printer, but the file size is too large to email. How do i go about reducing the file size in AI so it still maintains large format print resolution? Will saving to a PDF lose the print quality?
