I have Illustrator CC (at the moment I am using the trial version), and I have used it a few times. The only problem is that every time I have made some changes to the hotkeys/keyboard shortcuts, and added a few brushes, this disappears (like it resets back to factory settings by itself) when I re-open Illustrator.
View 1 Repliesi click on the brush and change its color and or size then, when I go to paint it goes back to previous settings. (after that I can change its setting and it will work, but I always have to make a mark with the settings I don't want before I can change it to desired settings)

I've had to remake some brushes for my digital art course twice, and now I'll have to do it a third time. This is EXTREMELY DISTRESSING...
This started happening only recently. I can only guess perhaps an update to Windows or something has really jerked up my Photoshop, not sure.
How can I change the brush settings to avoid the smudging of brushes at the bottom? Hard to describe but the way the line goes into a thick curvy part.
Easier to see what I mean from this picture, whilst im drawing it its ok, then it changes into smooth lines, even with no smoothing on? What can I do?

My AutoCAD LT lineweight settings keep resetting from drawing to drawing, is it suppose to do it or what?
I just want my lineweight settings always (for any drawing) to be as I set them!
I have been continuously since buying CS5/Illustrator. Our company had its logo designed by another firm, and it has been my job to use it in brochures and marketing collateral. The logo uses a two instances of a radial gradient applied to two separate elements of the logo. The gradients are off-center. However, when I place the file into a document, save, close and re-open, boom! the gradient is reset to center, throwing off the logo. This has happened when I have least expected it, and even resulted in a very expensive reprint.
I have converted the file to different formats: EPS, JPEG and PDF, but with the first, there is a loss of image quality, and with PDF, the gradient still moves out of place.
Im trying to reset illustrator Preferences with the shortcut option+command+shift but its not working, it worked with photoshop but with illustrator its not working why ?
also in CS6 where to find illustrator Preferences file to delete them in case short cut dont works
Okay so I've browsed these forums and everybody keeps saying to turn off Align new Objects to pixel grid well I've done that and it still keeps resetting. I've been using a Print document since I am trying to draw illustrations for a children's book but somehow when I choose anything below 1 pt it keeps going back to 1 pt no matter what.
Opened up transform panel too but it's not checked and grayed out so I can not turn on / off again. I am using Adobe Illustrator CS5.
Why does this not work? The textFrameItem.anchor behaves as if it is a read only value but it isn't supposed to be. What am I doing wrong?

A few months ago, I bought a book that had some Photoshop brushes on its CD. Inside the book, each brush had some vallues written under description, for Painter and Photoshop. I have heard that Gimp can import Photoshop brushes but are the settings equivalent to the pnes in Photoshop? Here are some examples of what I mean:

I'm working on a reflective drawing and using gradients on strokes. I've been using pressure sensitive calligraphic brushes I made. Now I'm trying to use variable width preset profile brushes. It works fine for the first stroke, but every time I make a new stroke, it reverts back to a calligraphic pressure brush. How can I keep my brushes the same profile until I manually select it to be different? I've gone back and forth between the brush tool and pencil tool and neither will keep any basic variable width profile past the first stroke. I have to select every brush stroke and change it again and again after drawing it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI’m using Adobe Illustrator CS6 with a mouse rather than a pressure graphics tablet.
When I create a stroke using the Paint brush tool I would like the stroke to contain a variable width profile. For example narrower at the beginning and end of the stroke but thicker in the middle. Now I can do this by selecting the line after I have made the stroke and choosing the Basic Brush Definition from the drop down list. But if i try to draw a new line the settings are reset again. I cannot create a variable stroke while creating the stroke. The brush definition keeps resetting to 5 pt Round and stroke width 1 pt. It would be much quicker if the stroke remained as a varying width profile as I created the strokes.
I noticed the same problem with the blob brush tool except it's even worse. With the blob brush tool the stroke weight always resets regardless of whether or not I try to set a Variable width profile.
I tried deselecting "New Art has Basic Appearance" mentioned on another forum but that didn't work.

This was not an issue in CS5, and I can't figure out how to change it in CS6. I like to Illustrate with the Pencil Tool. I set the stroke to width profile 1 (tapered on both ends) and the stoke to whatever makes sense for my current project, and it keeps changing back to Uniform and 1pt. I have tried to get my settings to "stick" with the Pencil Tool and Brush Tool, and have had no luck. The only way I can change the stroke profile is to do it AFTER the stoke is made.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery single time I activate the Adjustment Brush, Mask, and Filter tools, they activate with the "Iris Enhance" preset active. So when I start editing the first thing I have to do is reset the tools to zero every. single. time. Yes a double-click isn't that big a deal, but LR4 did not do this. I have not changed any settings since going to LR5 and I can't stand this issue anymore.When I use these tools, the adjustments I'm making are highlights, shadows, noise, clarity, etc. Individual sliders. So why does "Iris Enhance" keep turning on when never even touch the effects? In LR4, after finishing an edit with a brush, mask, etc., I would press the Enter key and it would switch to a "new" brush/mask. At that point, the Effect would automatically switch back to Default. How can I make LR5 do this? I want it to jump back to default slider settings after every time I press Enter.

When I change the settings for 1 brush... say I add some jitter to a smooth brush - then suddenly the other brushes get the same jitter applied to them.
How can I set the brushes so that each brush has a different setting that doesn't change when I change any other brush settings?
p.s. I also don't get why Adobe has you lock a brush by UNlocking it? Seems to me it should be the other way around?
I'm having some problems with drawing paths in Illustrator. Everytime I draw a new path, this new path shows up in the standard settings. The 'brush defenition' turns back to 'basic' and the 'variable width profile' back to 'uniform'. It would save me a lot of time if I could change those standard settings into what I prefer.

I have dragged the brush from the brush library to an ai document to try to modify it ...no luck. I have expanded the brush to art outlines ...no luck. I have expanded the transparency. All color and transparency panels indicate 100%, however the object is still a transparent tint. I have tried cutting and pasting the expanded object without luck.
I have read the reference manual on this subject, but nowhere does it tell how to remove the tint and make the newly created object a solid color.
i purchased a symbol package online and it came with these instructions URL... that i followed to a T. the problem.,. well the symbols and the brushes do not show in library for me to use. the package name showed in the library.. but when i click on it, the list is empty. how can i get them to show in the library permanently.
by the way, when i open the downloaded package using Ai, the symbols are there and i am able to open them no problem. but i can't get them to populate in the brushes, symbols library.
Art brushes are showing a grey version of what should be a Rich Black RGB 0, 0, 0,. Furthermore, expanding the art brush stroke and sampling the color shows the strokes "Black" is actually: 32,32,32, pre-expansion the RGB sample shows the stroke is 0,0,0.

Options for Art Brush show art brush swatch is Rich Black but using eyedropper (within brush options window) and sampling preview stroke CHANGES swatch preview from Rich Black to Grey.

I'd be interested in seeing how people are using this feature. The demos on Youtube are not impressive, but I'm sure someone is using them to their potential.

I have recently upgraded to CS6 from CS2. I do a lot of digital inking in Illustrator as part of my job. In CS2 I would create a simple tapered brush using 4 anchor points. When I would draw a brush stroke say with two anchor points, and then expand that brush stroke. Illustrator CS2 would convert the outlined tapered brush stroke back to the the original 4 anchor point path that I had originally created with maybe one extra point if the stroke curved drastically. Now is CS6 illustrator creates that same expanded brush with 9 to 12 anchor points in the path. This makes the program completly useless for my task. Is there anyway to correct this?

I've been able to somewhat do that by Expanding the object with the brush applied, but then of course it no longer has a brush applied to the object. Is it possible to scale an object without changing the stroke weights in the brush?

What I want is to be able to scale the line weight of the line the brush is applied to, but not the line weight of the brush itself.
Can parts of an Illustrator brush be removed or erased where they overlap on an angle. Obviously straight portions are not a problem and can be handled by moving the anchor point of the path. However, I have created a pattern brush with 6 parallel lines and I am designing a typeface for a Typography class. There are areas where the brush lines overlap.
