I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone and try bristle brushes. The first thing I notice, is the lack of pressure control. This baffles me. Is this just a programming limitation? As a painter, I depend on pressure to create nuanced effects.
I'd be interested in seeing how people are using this feature. The demos on Youtube are not impressive, but I'm sure someone is using them to their potential.
Does Illustrator CS6 give the ability to create custom bristle brushes, and if so, how?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using the bristle brush to create some organic highlighting on my objects. Since the file gets too large & unmanageable, I tried thinking of other ways to reduce it down to just one gradient mesh object. I've seen suggestions of converting the bristle brush strokes to Raster, but I need this to be scaleable.
I've attached an image that shows an example of the bristle brushed object (painted inside an object), the outline view and the crazy Expanded view. How to combine this into one gradient mesh object?
Running on Vista Business 32bit, Phenom 9550 Quad Core, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 7600 GT.
I just tried my WACOM tablet and the brushes were very slow, missing the start of some strokes and most importantly no pressure sensitivity. I did
a little searching and someone suggested switching off OpenGL and this has
fixed my problem.
Does anyone else have a similar experience ?
Also, is my 7600 GT card not powerful enough ? When I moved to CS2 from 7,
I had to upgrade my graphics card - which was running just fine with 7.
In plan I show a pipe main as a thick line with a certain linetype whether it be for storm, sanitary or water. I have acheived this by selecting only pipe centerline under the display tab in the pipe style editor and then under pipe centerline options specifiying a width for the pipe. I don't see the centerline options for a pressure network pipe.

I have dragged the brush from the brush library to an ai document to try to modify it ...no luck. I have expanded the brush to art outlines ...no luck. I have expanded the transparency. All color and transparency panels indicate 100%, however the object is still a transparent tint. I have tried cutting and pasting the expanded object without luck.
I have read the reference manual on this subject, but nowhere does it tell how to remove the tint and make the newly created object a solid color.
I was wondering what options there are for creating these shapes like celtic knots.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upped my opinion of Illustrator and was really impressed with how I could change the appearance in the layers panel.
Now unable to find it. Using a mac and CS5.5 when selecting drop down button it is not there any more. Layer options only gives silly basic options like the name of the layer etc. I just don't know what's happened.
Created a brushed metal effect and unable to save as graphic style. This layers blending options was excellent and I can't really use much of the program without it.
When i right click on any of the tools with a little arrow in the corner to open the other tools options nothing opens: i cannot open the other pen tools for example.
I bought the adobe creative suite 6 master collection, and this function works fine in Photoshop but it does nto work in Illustrator.
i purchased a symbol package online and it came with these instructions URL... that i followed to a T. the problem.,. well the symbols and the brushes do not show in library for me to use. the package name showed in the library.. but when i click on it, the list is empty. how can i get them to show in the library permanently.
by the way, when i open the downloaded package using Ai, the symbols are there and i am able to open them no problem. but i can't get them to populate in the brushes, symbols library.
Art brushes are showing a grey version of what should be a Rich Black RGB 0, 0, 0,. Furthermore, expanding the art brush stroke and sampling the color shows the strokes "Black" is actually: 32,32,32, pre-expansion the RGB sample shows the stroke is 0,0,0.
Color Mode=RGB
Print Proof=NO
Document =RGB
Display all Blacks, print all Blacks=Rich Black
Options for Art Brush show art brush swatch is Rich Black but using eyedropper (within brush options window) and sampling preview stroke CHANGES swatch preview from Rich Black to Grey.

I have recently upgraded to CS6 from CS2. I do a lot of digital inking in Illustrator as part of my job. In CS2 I would create a simple tapered brush using 4 anchor points. When I would draw a brush stroke say with two anchor points, and then expand that brush stroke. Illustrator CS2 would convert the outlined tapered brush stroke back to the the original 4 anchor point path that I had originally created with maybe one extra point if the stroke curved drastically. Now is CS6 illustrator creates that same expanded brush with 9 to 12 anchor points in the path. This makes the program completly useless for my task. Is there anyway to correct this?
