Mar 16, 2012it's always a tedious task to transfer my cutom UI to another computer when custom scripts are used. Here's how I do ist now:
- Save the custom UI
- Save the c:Users...AppDataLocalAutodesk3dsMaxDesign2012 - 64bitenuUI folder
- Manually collect the scripts, which are not automatically copied to the above folder from c:Program FilesAutodesk3ds Max Design 2012Scripts and
c:Program FilesAutodesk3ds Max Design 2012UI
- Manually collect the corresponding icons
Save all that stuff in the same directories on the other computer
- Load the cutom UI
All other methods I tried end up with missing scripts or icons.
Is there an easier and reliable way to do this? Right now this mainly kepps me from upgrading to new versions of Max...
Illustrator :: Including Different Datasets From File?
Jun 28, 2012I have (for the sake of argument) 2 illustrator files. One contains some vector drawings with multiple layers. I'd like to use two "versions" of that file so I'm using variables and datasets to toggle some layers and change some textfields. Now, in the other file, I'd like to link (place) to these two versions. When placing external files you can choose between several options, for example which artboard you'd like to include from a certain file, but I can't find an option for choosing which dataset (from the to be included file) I'd like to use?!? It seems to be using the one which was "active" while saving the file.
So, is it possible to include an illustrator file with a particular dataset and then the same file once more with a different dataset? And if so, how? It seems a bit redundant to duplicate the original file (with the 2 datasets) so it can be included in another one... for every change in a layer for example I would have to save the file twice? (Or more if I had more datasets)
Illustrator :: Size Of Object Without Including The Outline
Jul 12, 2013I have a 100mm x 100mm grid set up with 10mm divisions. I draw a box 100mm x 100mm and snap to the grid. I then put a stroke of 1mm on the box and want to resize to 120mm x 120mm. The box will not snap to the grid accurately because the box is now 118.811mm and does not know whether to snap to the top or bottom of the box. This makes for horrendous mistakes in my artwork. I need to view the size of the box as 120mm x 120mm irrespective of the stroke width. I'm on CS5.5 but have CS6 here and will install it if it's the only way to solve it.

Sep 10, 2012I have some brushes that I'd used in Photoshop CS4 (still have Photoshop cs4 on my system) I'd purchased the CS6 Master Suite - and don't have those brushes in PS6.
I navigated to my Photoshop CS4 installation into Presets>Brushes thinking to Copy and Paste them into my PS6 installation, and don't see them there. Have looked both in 64 bit and 32 bit program area (I'm running Windows 7 64 bit system), and can't find all those brush presets anywhere.
Have tried searching for .abr files from the start menu but that's not pulling anything up (not even the ones installed with CS6 so not sure how to use that search properly or if it can't search by document type).
Photoshop :: CS6 Memory With Custom Brushes
May 19, 2013I just started using this new version of photoshop it seems nice and all, But when I go to use one of my custom brushes I have thats lighting on another layer and there is only 5 layers and the 5th one I can not add my brush effect of lighting to it.comes up with a not enough memory...now I built my own Desktop pc it had 8 cores AMD processor 4.0ghz and 32.gb quad core ram !... and I am running windows 8 pro on my main HD I am using right now. I never had this problem with the old photoshop cs5 version at all.
why didn't they test out 90% of all the bugs before releasing this app ?I need this for my business I do online creating graphics and digital art.if this is not fix within the next week fast. I will just cancel my membership and demand my money back and just go back to using photoshop CS 5 again.I went to this version cause they mentioned in the information about it that it's more suited for Wacom pen tablet intuos 5 multi touch.so it seems theres a memory leak in this version of photoshop and they really need to fix it fast.I would and plus I will also spam this about the app being poorly coded and programmed all over the net. !! even on youtube and record my use of it and how it has so many bad errors in it. and set as a warning not to buy this app till at least 3 years down the road when they have everything fixed in it in another version of it, like always ! cause of this I feel cheated and ripped off !

Mar 6, 2009Whenever I try to use a brush, the program slows down to a crawl. For instance: I open a 600 x 450 JPG and load a size 175 brush. Everything is fine until I increase the brush size. 175 - 900 is OK, but then the brush tip starts to lag like all hell. Reducing the brush size doesn't help. Apparently the problem also depends on the image size. When I load the same brush and a 1440 x 900 JPG, the lagging kicks in earlier. I tried changing the performance settings, but to no avail.
I'm using CS4 11.01 and Windows XP SP3.

Feb 15, 2007I recently downloaded some brushes off the internet, and while loading them into Photoshop, I accidentally clicked "Replace" (which is inexplicably set as the default), instead of "Append". ALL of the custom brushes that I've ever made were instantly gone. I never saved my brushes as an actual Set. So I don't have an .abr file with my brushes in it. But Photoshop has to store these brushes SOMEWHERE right? Please tell me they're not gone forever. Where does Photoshop store these brushes if they're not saved to a specific set?

Jan 14, 2013Is there a way to start a custom line type so that is starts and ends with "O". Right now, the default "FENCELINE1" has circles in it, but it starts and ends with a line.
Here's their code for the line:

I already tried just putting the O's at the ends, and that didn't do it.
Below is a picture of what I'm looking to get. The top one is the FENCELINE1, the bottom one is just circles and lines, but that's how I want the linetype to look when they place it... so first click would have a circle, second click would have a circle, and the circles "in" the line would spread out evenly.
Just so you know... this is for guardrail inside a where house where it has the circle pillars on each end with circular pillars in the middle (every 8', but the spacing isn't crucial).

Feb 19, 2013In Photoshop, if I have a layer with a style such as a drop shadow, and I click on Image > Trim, I can crop the canvas to the exact points where the drop shadow fades out. I want to do essentially the same thing in Illustrator. I have an object with a drop shadow. I select the object, double-click on the Artboard tool, and in the dialog that appears, from the dropdown menu, I select "Fit to Selected Art". This succeeds at cropping the canvas to the dimensions of the object, but but it also cuts off my drop shadow. My only solution has been to eyeball the cropping of my canvas, but I really want to be precise and automate this process.

I decided to try am brushes again. So, I made three custom brushes and they turned out great. I used one to draw a hair and this caused Corel to freak out. The Object Manager froze and wasn't obeying my commands.

Feb 14, 2011On trying to save a custom brush in gimp I got the following message :
GIMP MESSAGE:
Saving '/usr/share/gimp/2.0/brushes/brush.gih' failed:
Could not open '/usr/share/gimp/2.0/brushes/brush.gih' for writing: Permission denied.
Although I have successfully done this in the past ,for some reason it is now preventing me from saving them in the 'brushes' folder. Incidentally although the brushes I previously produced do NOT appear in this folder (despite having show all files ticked) they do appear in the gimp dialogue and I can use them.
Im using uberstudent (Linux)
I've checked gimp's 'preferences' to see if I have inadvertantly blocked access but cant see anything relevant..

Dec 6, 2011Is there a way to make transparency on custom brushes? I had an idea to make custom brush sets similar to those used in photoshop. I know in Photoshop, Custom Brushes are done with opacity maps With white being transparent and black being full color and all the greys in between being different levels of transparent. I've tried doing that with custom brushes mini and I've also tried making the images transparent, but I just cant seem to make it work. I can get either completely solid and completely transparent. But nothing in between...
