Illustrator :: Fit Artboard To Selected Artwork Including Effects?

In Photoshop, if I have a layer with a style such as a drop shadow, and I click on Image > Trim, I can crop the canvas to the exact points where the drop shadow fades out. I want to do essentially the same thing in Illustrator. I have an object with a drop shadow. I select the object, double-click on the Artboard tool, and in the dialog that appears, from the dropdown menu, I select "Fit to Selected Art". This succeeds at cropping the canvas to the dimensions of the object, but but it also cuts off my drop shadow. My only solution has been to eyeball the cropping of my canvas, but I really want to be precise and automate this process.
I have a bunch of artwork that I need to fit to artboards that need to be the same size, basically I'm looking for something similar to "Fit to Frame" in Premiere/After Effects.
After sending a CS6 working Illustrator file to my printer, he said he can't see the bleeds. I had him share it back to me through drop box and the artboard seems to be cropping all the art and the bleeds are unseen. Nothing is viewable past the artboard. I can see it in outline mode but not in preview mode.
In CS6, you could select the artwork, then go the the Artboard Panel, choose options, and then choose "fit to selected artwork" or "fit to artwork bounds." This resized the artboard to fit your artwork. In Illustrator CC, both options are absent in the Artboard Panel and "Custom" isn't there either. I can't find these options anywhere else. I am reopening files in CS6 to do this now. Can't believe they eliminated this feature. I use it everyday.
Apart from hiding or locking component layers/objects, is there another way to toggle the feature that moves artwork with the artboard when one performs transformations on artboards? I once experienced a session on the mac (AI CS6) where my artwork was not moving when my artboard was (this despite the layer being printable, unlocked and displaying correctly)
I worked on some logo designs at home using CS6.The next day at my friends office I opened the file up in CS5.Now it read the Document as a PDF form (not sure why). I had 3 pages of Artwork that I had to open seperately.I saved 2 of the Docs as new CS5 docs and cotinued working on my logo development on the original CS6 doc opened in CS5.
I continued to work off the original file outside the artboard parameters without 'saving as'.I have spent 5 hours working on designs and kept saving the file until home time.
When I then tried to open the same file that had registered the save (time shown) and file size increased I was left with 1 Artboard and no surrounding designs.
I know my work is in there somewhere due to the file size and fonts it keeps asking for that I used outside the artboard.
I've created an image that has some bleeds and needs to be saved as a JPEG for web display. If I just export it (or save for web and devices), the off-artboard stuff shows up in the saved image (which, of course, is bigger than the artboard). I've created a mask layer that masks the visibility of the excess artwork within AI and the saved file, but the off-artboard area occupied by the masked artwork is still there in the saved image. How can I non-destructively hide this stuff during saves, saving just the artboard?
Is it possible to use the "Rearrange Artboards" option in the Artboards flyout menu and also move not only the artboard itself but also the hidden artwork (layers, objects, etc.) on that artboard?
I have tried check-marking the "Move Artwork with Artboard" option, but that still does not move the hidden artwork. The default behavior seems to be that only the active or visible artwork is moved along with the artboard, but the hiddden artwork is left behind somewhere on the workspace where the artboard used to be before it was moved.
I find this a little cumbersome, since I often hide artwork that I'm testing and having to make them all visible again to just move them with the artboard would break the dinstinction between all the many very similar layers, objects, etc. that I might be working with at a given time.
Simple solution to aligning selected items to the artboard. I was going to create an action but then realized it would be more convenient for me to include it in my script file....I have a script to align objects with each other but they dont align to the artboard.
What controls origon (x,y = 0,0) of a objects coordinates? I'm not refering to which the "Reference Point".I use a bunch of artboards and sometimes origon originates from the newest artboard i have created, which is great for my workflow. I place a lot of objects using the top coordination tool.
But often the origon fixes it's position to the first artboard. Is there a way to control the origon?Specs: Win7, 64bit, Illustrator CS6 16.0.3.
I am having trouble with the Paste in Front/Back function. I will copy my selected layers and then want to paste them in place on the selected artboard next to it and often times it pastes it back on the artboard where it copies from. Sometimes the function does what I want, but often times it pastes in a different location, either on the same artboard, or next to the artboard where I want it pasted. It also tends to slightly move the X and Y values (again, sometimes). Each time I go to paste, I am creating a new layer and selecting the artboard where I want everything pasted, but sometimes it works, and other times it doesn't. I am using CS5 on MacBook Pro.
I'm having some issues with my file when trying to Save For Web. A band of transparency appears above my image even though I have everything cropped to the artboard, and the artboard is exactly the size I want the final image to be. If I uncheck "Clip to Artboard" the band of transparency disappears from the top, but reappears on the right side. It seems as if the artboard area is calculated differently in the Save For Web screen; its slightly off. I've included some images so you can see the issue.

Trying to save for web as a .png without "Clip To Artboard" selected; the image seems to shift and the band of transparency appears on the right size. Also some of the pieces of the image appear on the bottom outside of the artboard.
I made sure to crop each element of my image to fit exactly on the artboard. Previously, I had made sure to use a clipping mask exactly the size of the artboard and still had these issues. I would like my .png to not have a band of transparency. It has the same issue when I change it to .jpg, but instead has a white matte band. What am I doing wrong, or is this just an issue with Illustrator?
I'm working with 27 artboard in illustrator for one project. I would like to select the object I need to get to in my layers panel and have illustrator "jump/navigate" me to the object where it resides on the artboard. Is this possible?

I have problem when exporting selected only artwork to eps. The artwork itself contains standard fill objects with no strokes and no special effect on each object (drop shadow, powerclip, etc). On EPS Export dialog I change nothing, just clicked OK button.
The problem is there is no sign if the process success or fail.The file created only have zero bytes.The File>Exit menu is dimmed.When I try to close the document, it say:
Some of the documents could not be closed, because tasks are being performed in the background. Check the status bar of each opened document to see what tasks are being performed and their progress.
I can't close the document and exit the program, so I have to use Task Manager. Also if I continue to edit the artwork, i.e. selecting an object inside a group, the program crashed.

1.) I dragged out vertical and horizontal guides from the rulers and then created a new art board. The new art board now has the horizontal guides carried over from the first art board. How can I have separate guides on each of my art boards? I am using art board rulers.
2.) Is there a way to layout vertical and horizontal guides on an art board and copy them over to a new blank art board?
I have very little knowledge in complex Autolist routines and routine to do the following:
I would like to be able to provide a Prefix and/or Suffix via dialog then pick any line of text or multiple lines of text and have it concentrate. For example: Prefix: First Floor Suffix: M100. I pick the room text on an arch floor plan "Mechanical room" and the second line "100" The result will be "First Floor Mechanical room 100 M100".
But lets take it a final step further; once condensed, I want it added to a perticular tag attribute in a block I inserted.
Example of how I would use it. I insert a symbol for an addressable smoke detector that has several tags; one of them being Location. I would use this routine to gather the information provided by the Arch floor plan and join it with the block attribute for exporting later for use in the Fire Alarm Panel Programming.
In Recolor artwork is there a way to change the black and white colors to a color? When I try to edit them it doesn't edit them at all. It would be nice if I didn't have to manually tweak the colors to have color before I go into Recolor Artwork.
I have (for the sake of argument) 2 illustrator files. One contains some vector drawings with multiple layers. I'd like to use two "versions" of that file so I'm using variables and datasets to toggle some layers and change some textfields. Now, in the other file, I'd like to link (place) to these two versions. When placing external files you can choose between several options, for example which artboard you'd like to include from a certain file, but I can't find an option for choosing which dataset (from the to be included file) I'd like to use?!? It seems to be using the one which was "active" while saving the file.
So, is it possible to include an illustrator file with a particular dataset and then the same file once more with a different dataset? And if so, how? It seems a bit redundant to duplicate the original file (with the 2 datasets) so it can be included in another one... for every change in a layer for example I would have to save the file twice? (Or more if I had more datasets)
I have a 100mm x 100mm grid set up with 10mm divisions. I draw a box 100mm x 100mm and snap to the grid. I then put a stroke of 1mm on the box and want to resize to 120mm x 120mm. The box will not snap to the grid accurately because the box is now 118.811mm and does not know whether to snap to the top or bottom of the box. This makes for horrendous mistakes in my artwork. I need to view the size of the box as 120mm x 120mm irrespective of the stroke width. I'm on CS5.5 but have CS6 here and will install it if it's the only way to solve it.
I have a number of microscope images of the same subject that were taken under three different conditions. I'd like to use clipping masks to crop the images in the same way (the same size but also the same positions relative to the corners/sides of the images. In case that was incoherent, I made an image to try to explain what I'm trying to achieve (the same portion of each image for each set):
We've just received some artwork from a client in a PDF format, when this artwork is viewed in Adobe Acrobat it shows a star embedded in the artwork,but when the same PDF is opened in Illustrator CS6 this star doesn’t appear...... No warnings are shown to say artwork is missing or has been placed either?
But however when the artwork is exported from Adobe Acrobat in an EPS format, and then this EPS file opened in Illustrator CS6 the star appears.
I need to export some artwork from Illustrator CC to a PSD. It'll work on some artboards but on others I get an error "Photoshop file could not be saved.".I've restarted and updated.
I can get pre-loaded symbols to map to the art-work, but the symbol I created doesn't appear when I try to map it. I'm not sure if the problem is how I created the original artwork/symbol?
I have a file with a number of artboards on which there are objetcs filled with 100% Magenta and some with 100% Magenta and 0,34% Yellow. I want to get rid of that 0,34% but Illy is refusing to cooperate.
Even selecting just two or three objects and trying to recolor using the Edit/Edit colors/Recolor Artwork dialog has no effect. I can change the color manually though, for one or more selected objects.
