Illustrator :: Masking Off-artboard Artwork During Export / Save

I've created an image that has some bleeds and needs to be saved as a JPEG for web display. If I just export it (or save for web and devices), the off-artboard stuff shows up in the saved image (which, of course, is bigger than the artboard). I've created a mask layer that masks the visibility of the excess artwork within AI and the saved file, but the off-artboard area occupied by the masked artwork is still there in the saved image. How can I non-destructively hide this stuff during saves, saving just the artboard?

Illustrator incorrectly crops artwork too small by a few pixel when using Save for Web or Export. If you fit an artboard to your artwork, either manually using smart guides or by using the "Fit to Selected" command, it will look correct in the work area but when you go to Save for Web it will be noticeably truncated on the right and bottom sides. If all the artwork is supposed to be within the artboard then toggling "Clip to Artboard" will actually change the size of the exported image by 1 or 2 pixels when it shouldn't change at all.

When saving for web or exporting an artboard is there any way to pre-populate the save file name dialog box with the artboard's given name. It would save having to re-name the file and make good use of that metadata.

When I record a save for web action that exports my artboard in 3 file sizes. 100%, 200% and 400% it works for the first few files.
Then suddenly after a while the first export changes its width and height from 100% to 111%, but not just 111% width and height equally. No it pulls it out of proportion too.
When I manually enter 100% again it all pops back to the correct aspect ration.The 200% and 400% still behave as expected.
If I rerecord it it starts working again. But that defeats the purpose.

After sending a CS6 working Illustrator file to my printer, he said he can't see the bleeds. I had him share it back to me through drop box and the artboard seems to be cropping all the art and the bleeds are unseen. Nothing is viewable past the artboard. I can see it in outline mode but not in preview mode.

In CS6, you could select the artwork, then go the the Artboard Panel, choose options, and then choose "fit to selected artwork" or "fit to artwork bounds." This resized the artboard to fit your artwork. In Illustrator CC, both options are absent in the Artboard Panel and "Custom" isn't there either. I can't find these options anywhere else. I am reopening files in CS6 to do this now. Can't believe they eliminated this feature. I use it everyday.

Apart from hiding or locking component layers/objects, is there another way to toggle the feature that moves artwork with the artboard when one performs transformations on artboards? I once experienced a session on the mac (AI CS6) where my artwork was not moving when my artboard was (this despite the layer being printable, unlocked and displaying correctly)

I worked on some logo designs at home using CS6.The next day at my friends office I opened the file up in CS5.Now it read the Document as a PDF form (not sure why). I had 3 pages of Artwork that I had to open seperately.I saved 2 of the Docs as new CS5 docs and cotinued working on my logo development on the original CS6 doc opened in CS5.
I continued to work off the original file outside the artboard parameters without 'saving as'.I have spent 5 hours working on designs and kept saving the file until home time.
When I then tried to open the same file that had registered the save (time shown) and file size increased I was left with 1 Artboard and no surrounding designs.
I know my work is in there somewhere due to the file size and fonts it keeps asking for that I used outside the artboard.

In Photoshop, if I have a layer with a style such as a drop shadow, and I click on Image > Trim, I can crop the canvas to the exact points where the drop shadow fades out. I want to do essentially the same thing in Illustrator. I have an object with a drop shadow. I select the object, double-click on the Artboard tool, and in the dialog that appears, from the dropdown menu, I select "Fit to Selected Art". This succeeds at cropping the canvas to the dimensions of the object, but but it also cuts off my drop shadow. My only solution has been to eyeball the cropping of my canvas, but I really want to be precise and automate this process.

Is it possible to use the "Rearrange Artboards" option in the Artboards flyout menu and also move not only the artboard itself but also the hidden artwork (layers, objects, etc.) on that artboard?
I have tried check-marking the "Move Artwork with Artboard" option, but that still does not move the hidden artwork. The default behavior seems to be that only the active or visible artwork is moved along with the artboard, but the hiddden artwork is left behind somewhere on the workspace where the artboard used to be before it was moved.
I find this a little cumbersome, since I often hide artwork that I'm testing and having to make them all visible again to just move them with the artboard would break the dinstinction between all the many very similar layers, objects, etc. that I might be working with at a given time.

I'm on Illustrator CS5 and are trying to export my artwork to a PDF format in such a way as so others with illustrator cannot open the file and access its layers and pull out the artwork etc.
I click File, "Save a copy", choose PDF I thought that is what unchecking the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" would do it, but when I uncheck it I still have access all the layers when I open the PDF.
Is there another setting I am missing etc? I've tried saving the artwork as a jpg, and doing print export to PDF but I just cant get the same crispness at the optimised file size like I was when doing "Save a copy".
Am I missing a setting or, do I need to do something else to the artwork before saving the PDF?

Illustrator cs5 will not export to artboard, even though the artboard is properly set and "Use artboards" is clicked in export dialogue box.
Bleed areas are set and crop marks, all of which print fine. But I want to export to jpeg just to see how the cropped output will look.

There seems to be an action called adobe_SaveForWeb, but I can't find any documentation for it.
I need to export an artwork to a JPEG with a fixed size (to create a thumbnail of an Ai file), and i've found several unanswered question on this topic. With Save For Web, I can do it through UI.
a documentation for adobe_SaveForWeb, or tell me how which parameter I need to initialize for it to work? I'm using CS6 SDK with Visual C++

Is there a way in Illustrator CS6 to export as jpg with Use Artboard check to not have illustrator add the name of the artboard to your file name?
Example -
File name "redboat.ai"
Export jpg "redboat.jpg" with Use Artboard option selected
File name becomes "redboat-01.jpg"
This is not a huge problem when I only have 1 or two files but when I have to rename 100+ file names it can be a pain.
I do understand that I can batch rename in Bridge but it would be nice if I could have these files saved without the artboard name on them.

This is my deconstructed crest logo, all pieces taken apart. I tried to find the source of the problem but it doesn't seem to be anything that I can track.
This problem ocurrs (the white lines on the "body" and on the two "wings") only when I use Save for Web with the GIF, JPEG and PNG options. If I use the WBMP, SWF, or SVG options then the white lines do not appear. They also do not appear if I use the regular Save As, or if I export to PNG, JPEG, etc.
The black forms are just shapes with black fills (no strokes) on them - so there is no reason that I can find for this happening.

I all, I'm working on a file that I have setup as 1045 px by 154 px. When I export this file to jpeg, png or bmp the file become over 4000 px wide. This is likely an easy thing I'm missing.

See title - is this possible?
I've made this small script to test a few things, before moving on to the bigger stuff (some of it have been cut out, since it's not important):

I'm trying to export artboard #3 as a JPEG. But it doesn't work.
According to the scripting reference guide, most of the "ExportOptions"-functions support the artboardRange-parameter, but alas - JPEG does not.
Is there another way to do this? Right now I'm only getting all the artboards into a single JPEG-file, which is not what I'm searching for

The first time it happened, I uninstalled AI and did a fresh install which fixed it for a short time. When I save a PDF out of AI, it does not save to the artboard constraints. This is a screen shot of my AI document which has 2 pages.
When I save as PDF, this is what the file looks like:

(Pg 2)
After the original file has been saved (incorrectly) I can open it and save it again and it will be fine.

I recently upgraded to Illustrator CS6, and suddenly clients have been remarking that the file sizes are wrong or there's "a ton of white space around the logo." I checked it out, and sure enough, it appears that whenever I export a file, it does not crop it to the image boundary like it used to, even if I had manually adjusted the artboard to fit closely around it. After a bit of trial and error, I discovered that I have to click "Use Artboards" on the Export dialog each time. The super annoying part is that it doesn't STAY checked, AND it adds a number to the end of the file name. So I often forget to check it (not used to the extra step in workflow), and if I make a modification to the file, I can't just export over the previous version. It requires me to export it, go find it in finder, and manually delete the extra number off the file name. The extra steps are adding way too much time when I'm saving out many files. I'm about ready to go back to my previous version just from this alone.
Is there an easier way to do this? It seems like the addition of this feature would only cause extra problems...

My custom artboards no longer crop graphics properly. Instead of a specific targeted crop area, it just creates a jpg or png of ALL art on displayed layer. What did I turn on or off? Yeah, exporting the graphics works, but I want to control the final image size and preview too. What happened?

Is it possible to save illustrator XMP thumbnail previews by artboard? It seems like Illustrator saves a single thumbnail with all art regardless of the number of artboards.
If there is a property that can be set to save multiple thumbnails to the XMP packet by artboard when saving to a native Illustrator file?

Is there any chance to assign values to an artboard?
I've experimented with “tags”, but they only work for pageItems. (if the item which includes the stored data is deleted, the data is also deleted)
It is simple data like v1=true, v2=false, … I want to assign. And it needs to be saved within the illustrator document.
