i click on the brush and change its color and or size then, when I go to paint it goes back to previous settings. (after that I can change its setting and it will work, but I always have to make a mark with the settings I don't want before I can change it to desired settings)

The only problem is that every time I have made some changes to the hotkeys/keyboard shortcuts, and added a few brushes, this disappears (like it resets back to factory settings by itself) when I re-open Illustrator.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOkay so I've browsed these forums and everybody keeps saying to turn off Align new Objects to pixel grid well I've done that and it still keeps resetting. I've been using a Print document since I am trying to draw illustrations for a children's book but somehow when I choose anything below 1 pt it keeps going back to 1 pt no matter what.
Opened up transform panel too but it's not checked and grayed out so I can not turn on / off again. I am using Adobe Illustrator CS5.
I'm working on a reflective drawing and using gradients on strokes. I've been using pressure sensitive calligraphic brushes I made. Now I'm trying to use variable width preset profile brushes. It works fine for the first stroke, but every time I make a new stroke, it reverts back to a calligraphic pressure brush. How can I keep my brushes the same profile until I manually select it to be different? I've gone back and forth between the brush tool and pencil tool and neither will keep any basic variable width profile past the first stroke. I have to select every brush stroke and change it again and again after drawing it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI’m using Adobe Illustrator CS6 with a mouse rather than a pressure graphics tablet.
When I create a stroke using the Paint brush tool I would like the stroke to contain a variable width profile. For example narrower at the beginning and end of the stroke but thicker in the middle. Now I can do this by selecting the line after I have made the stroke and choosing the Basic Brush Definition from the drop down list. But if i try to draw a new line the settings are reset again. I cannot create a variable stroke while creating the stroke. The brush definition keeps resetting to 5 pt Round and stroke width 1 pt. It would be much quicker if the stroke remained as a varying width profile as I created the strokes.
I noticed the same problem with the blob brush tool except it's even worse. With the blob brush tool the stroke weight always resets regardless of whether or not I try to set a Variable width profile.
I tried deselecting "New Art has Basic Appearance" mentioned on another forum but that didn't work.

This was not an issue in CS5, and I can't figure out how to change it in CS6. I like to Illustrate with the Pencil Tool. I set the stroke to width profile 1 (tapered on both ends) and the stoke to whatever makes sense for my current project, and it keeps changing back to Uniform and 1pt. I have tried to get my settings to "stick" with the Pencil Tool and Brush Tool, and have had no luck. The only way I can change the stroke profile is to do it AFTER the stoke is made.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a file in photoshop cs5 that had come from lightroom 5.3. This was then saved (automatically becomes tiff file in Lightroom). I then wanted to make some more adjustments to it in lightroom (using local adjustment clarity). I then tried to copy the settings of the adjustment brush from the tiff to the original raw file. This is where it gets very strange. The adjustments are copied but they are rotated ccw by 90 degrees! I can replicate this every time.

I am currently having a big problem with Brush Settings in Illustrator. It was working perfectly fine until the other day so I am worried I have clicked a button incorrectly.When I try and draw a line using the brush tool (and my tablet) I change the settings to, for example, Calligraphic 7pt Black with no stroke.
As soon as I draw it sets itself to No Fill and creates a Stroke instead, which doesn't show the pressure sensitivity I use with my tablet. why it started doing this as it worked fine a few days ago but it is vital to my job, the "New Art Has Basic Appearance" box is unchecked.
In PE 10, there was a reset tools option. I don't see this in PE 11. Is there a way to do this. If not, bring it back! It was a great tool.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Illustrator I want to maintain the stroke settings while creating several paths with the pen tool. However, every time I start a new path, the stroke settings revert to what must be a default. E.g. I set 16pt + Variable width profile + Basic and stroke a path. When I start a new path, the settings revert to 1pt + Uniform + Basic, and I have to reset back to my original. Other art programs I've used maintain the tool settings most recently used until they are manually changed. How can I get the settings to stay through multiple uses of the pen tool?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI’m a PS user new to Illustrator (CS6). In PS, using the bracket keys [] to increase/decrease brush point size will simultaneously update the data displayed in the tool panel at the top.
While I can use the bracket keys in Illustrator to change the appearance of the brush stroke, it is not being updated in the tool panel input or in the stroke window…so I can essentially have (2) 3 pt strokes created with the same brush that don’t visually match but whose display properties DO match. Because I will be doing lots of editing I certainly don’t want to work this way.
There are a few things I just don't get about brush settings. Sometimes it seems my brushes go all wonky.
When I change the settings for 1 brush... say I add some jitter to a smooth brush - then suddenly the other brushes get the same jitter applied to them.
How can I set the brushes so that each brush has a different setting that doesn't change when I change any other brush settings?
p.s. I also don't get why Adobe has you lock a brush by UNlocking it? Seems to me it should be the other way around?
I have been continuously since buying CS5/Illustrator. Our company had its logo designed by another firm, and it has been my job to use it in brochures and marketing collateral. The logo uses a two instances of a radial gradient applied to two separate elements of the logo. The gradients are off-center. However, when I place the file into a document, save, close and re-open, boom! the gradient is reset to center, throwing off the logo. This has happened when I have least expected it, and even resulted in a very expensive reprint.
I have converted the file to different formats: EPS, JPEG and PDF, but with the first, there is a loss of image quality, and with PDF, the gradient still moves out of place.
Im trying to reset illustrator Preferences with the shortcut option+command+shift but its not working, it worked with photoshop but with illustrator its not working why ?
also in CS6 where to find illustrator Preferences file to delete them in case short cut dont works
Somehow I have changed settings and when I try to use any of the tools on an image it does nothing. ie- using eraser, healing brush, clone stamp - nothing happens. I reset the tools, checked that layers is not locked, etc. I know it must be something dumb - I just can't find any reference in the book or on the knowledgebase.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently switched from Civil 3D 2012 to 2013 student version because when I initially installed the program I probably messed up some of the settings that I shouldn't have for my entire application. After reinstalling it, I noticed that the program seems to run just fine but the settings for the original file I'm trying to work with remain, such as label settings, linescales, etc.
I want my drawing to match the settings of new drawings when it comes to labels, scales, and anything else I might have changed. Is there a way to apply these settings to my original file? If not, is there a way to at least make sure the label styles can be reset? I don't want any changes to the settings I made to be present in my file.
I'd like to scatter a small image randomly, like you can with scatter & size jitter. I can't think of any way to do that on this image other than make a brush out of it, but creating a brush from the image will change its color uniformly. I'd like to keep the color and opacity of the image the same, but have it scattered. I

I know how to do this and i was wondering if there is a way to apply a gradient colour to the stroke at the same time. it is a curved line so a gradient mask doesn't achieve what I need. i want the line to consistently change colour as you go along it even round curves.

After much configuring and comparing CS4 vs CS3, I found that these settings do improve CS4's brush lag significantly. CS3 is still faster, but these settings made CS4 brush strokes a lot more responsive.
NOTE: these do not improve clone tool performance, the best way to improve clone performance right now seems to be to turn off the clone tools overlay feature.
Perhaps Adam or Chris from Adobe could explain what is happening here. The most significant option that improved performance appears to be the "Use for Image Display - OFF". I have no idea what this feature does or does not do but it does seem to be the biggest performance hit. The next most influential setting seems to be "3D Interaction Acceleration - OFF"
Set the following settings in Photoshop CS4 Preferences:
OpenGL - ON
Vsync - OFF
3D Interaction Acceleration - OFF
Force Bilinear Interpolation - OFF
Advanced Drawing - ON
Use for Image Display - OFF
Color Matching - ON
I'm just beginning to use Gimp with my Thinkpad x230. It's got a pressure sensitive stylus with eraser to use on the screen, and in ubuntu it's basically an on-screen wacom.
One of the greatest things about this is that I can use Gimp like a souped up sketchpad, I can automatically change tools to eraser whenever I spin the pen around.
The only problem is that whenever I change the brush size for the pencil, then move over to eraser, Gimp uses the brush size I selected for the pencil for the eraser tool. This is super annoying in practice. Is there a way for Gimp to memorize which brush size I want for a given tool?
I am thinking of a good way to organize my brushes. Now they are all in the settings window, in a row.I would liket to oganise them in folders, like they where in different boxes.

I see the brushes however Photoshop does not load their settings. They all are flate and hard.
All my brushes before in PS CS2 worked properly so I don't understand why CS5 is not. And I have loaded CS5 brushes and still does not read their settings.
Do I have to do something first before loading the brushes?

I mean, it could be set to 1000% scattered, and the points I draw will still only be with a few pixels from my cursor (about 20 pixels or so). Is there a way to set scattering even more than this?
