View 4 RepliesSo I am desinging a business card for a company I work for. The company we are sending them off too obviously needs to have the bleed and trims marks. The only thing I can't figure out is how do I make the bleed marks visible to them? When I print the document it shows me the trim marks but since I have a white background, it looks as if there is no border. Should I add a border to the actual Artboard?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to put together a magazine in Photoshop CS2. The plan is to save single pages as PDF's, and combine them in Acrobat.
However I'm told I need to ensure I have bleed and trim marks - and I have no idea how to do these.
How do I get crop marks to print? Can't seem to find the option in the print module.
Using LR 5.3.
I created an interactive form in InDesign CC and do not like the check marks as they are not visible enough. Can I globally change the check marks to "X" marks?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a leaflet given to me that I agreed to edit. It was A4 in size and fold in three so the original has six faces. The owner wants to keep the design but reduce it to a single-sheet double sided one third of A4. So I just did the edits and and made the leaflet into three on a page; like this:
My question is how can I put a cut mark in the page. I am guessing that the leaflets can be cut as required. Or is that not a good thing to do and should I put them on a standard compliment slip size?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it not counter intuitive to include the crop marks of an object in the transform dimensions. i.e If I create a box 200x200mm and turn on crop marks the new dimension is 238.1x238.1mm. I can understand a stroke affecting the dimensions of an object but crop marks? I'm not feeling it, I have to remove crop marks from the appearance, change size of the object then re-apply crop marks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to change the standard length of Illustrator's crop marks. (I need that because I'm exporting colorseparations for silkscreaning. An as crop marks are printed *** well I would like to keep them tiny)
View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently u[graded from a very old Illustrator version to CS6 and I noticed the crop tool is missing. It used to be really easy in the old version to drag the crop tool around the area in question and crop marks would be generated automatically. Then I could save and print just that area only. Now this tool is gone and I am having trouble with finding a way to define the area I want to save or print. When i generate crop marks and then save, all i get is a file with plenty of white around it that also shows the crop marks....
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to recreate this dial and I've learned how to create evenly spaced tick marks within a circle, but this is an ellipse. Here, I attempted to draw two ellipse then used the scissors to cut them to size. Then I used the line tool and drew each of the tick marks. Then I adjusted the weights of each tick. This is not a good method because the end ticks are not meeting the ends of the ellipse perfectly, leaving a tiny bit of tick mark outside the ellipse. Here is what I ended up with:
But this is what I need to create: (I only need to create the arched part with tick marks of this dial)
Is there a way to change the size of the text that comes out with the printers marks?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI learned out to make the tick marks using copies and rotation. My question now is, how is the rotation calculated so A) I get the correct placement of the tick marks, especially the small ones as there are so many and B) how do I calculate the rotation degree so that I have the proper amount of space at the bottom of the guage/dial?
I know how to get the large tick marks and the small tick marks, if I were placing them evenly around the entire circle, I would know how to do that also - but since I'm placing them around only a portion of the circle (although still evenly) I'm lost. I can only figure out the space by hit and miss calculations and that is taking much too long. I would also need to know how much to rotate the entire thing by in order to get the open space at the bottom as shown.
I have two intersecting objects, which I merged.
Problem is, that the merged object has a pertruding edge, which I want to trim off, but I can't. I tried drawing a rectangle over the unwanted part, but for some reason, the rectangle, or any path I try to make around that edge, it shifts to the left, as if it is snapping. I don't know if it is because I'm too zommed in, but there must be a way to intersect the two seamlessly...
See the image below
Whenever I try to trim or merge a gradient it only divides it, but when it's solid it works. Why? I'm trying to trim/merge some artwork with a lot of gradients and it's making it impossible. Any way to do this with gradients. Here is an image of what I'm talking about showing it working with solids, but not gradients.

I want to trim off the top of the lines in the picture below. I used white lines to cover the top to show you what look I wanted to achieve, However, I know that using white lines to cover it up is not a practical solution for my application. I know that I should be messing with the pathfinder tool but I just can't get it to work right for me. I am pretty new to illustrator and Photoshop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWorking on Adobe CS6..A sign maker has asked me to submit my artwork for different signs (quite a few of them, in different-sizes) as EPS with crop/trim marks.
For instance: The size of this sign is 24"x24" with a .25" bleed. The Artboard shows the right size, and the crop marks show uo as they should. But once I let go of the Artboard, no crop marks show on my screen.
Any crop mark I try adding via the Object ("Create Trim Marks") or Effect menu for crop marks, both cases would create them around the BLEEDS, rather than the REAL ARTBOARD, which, of course, defies the purpose of a crop or trim mark...
I usually submit files for production saved as PDF w/bleeds & crop marks, but this sign maker wants them as EPS.Is there a way around it, other than create those marks manually?
I am working on double sided business cards. I am using illustrator cs4. But the crop marks on one side dont align with the other. I am also using a office jet pro 8600 with duplex printing. I called HP but they said it has nothing to with the printer. They said it is the software that I am using.

I'm trying to learn illustrator cs2 on my own and am having some issues with a few basic functions. I am drawing shapes using the rectangle, ellipses and trying to join them together. How do i trim 2 lines together to make a corner. I would like to cut off the exess at the ends by cutting to the other lines. I know this seems basic but I can't figure it out. In the end I want to make a figure using all the drawing tools ( pen, line, shapes etc) and have the outline just one feature.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWe are introducing a new graph design, but has a problem with not being able to override the tick marks in the category axis in Illustrator CS5. A typical graph (line layout) can have 250 observations, and since we have the tick marks on full width, the graph gets "crowded" with black lines.
In the value axis there is possibilites for overriding the values, but not on the category axis.
Is there any way to script so that the tick marks in the category axis can be reduced/overrided to e.g. 1 in 20?
In Illustrator CS5+, I'm looping through the objects in a document, exporting each of them to an image using exportArtBoardasImage(). They need to be trimmed afterwards, as they generally have a tonne of whitespace. Normally, I run an ImageMagick shell script (mogrify -trim). It'd be awesome if I could reproduce this functionality from within illustrator. I've seen people handle this by copy-and-pasting each object into a new file, sizing the artboard to that object, exporting, then closing the file. I'd rather not do this, as it's *way* too slow.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working on designs in Illustrator and preparing an InDesign document with all of the graphics in one file for the client to review. The artboards are set to the size of a pier sign that will be all wood, but there are left graphics on the wood that will be laser cut and these extend beyond the edge of the wood. When I place the separate artboards in InDesign, they are cropped to the edge and I'd like to show how the left graphics extend beyond it. I've tried different import options but none of them show beyond the trim. (Also, if it makes a difference, the artboard sizes are fairly large—about 60" wide)

I made an outline of a buffalo (he is from buffalo) using the pen tool. I filled it in with pictures but i need to know how to trim away the remainders of the pictures that go past the buffalo outline. Basically i need to delete everything that is outside the vector buffalo, but i am having a terrible time figuring this out. Im not sure if i need the trim away tool, draw inside or something else.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy company is exporting Postcards in Illustrator CS6. What we do is have a large data set imported into the Variables applet and use the Actions applet to record and export action and play it through the whole data set. We later combine the PDF files and print them as a batch.
My question is: Is there a way to create an action that will automatically print the data set while avoiding the print dialog box? It will make the process simple and move faster.
Also, what are your was of creating postcards? Catalogs?
How do people create a catalog with over 60 pages and keep the file size low?
I have a Samsung Laser printer. THe passive USB hub went bad yesterday, and I re-installed teh printer drivers. Everything prints fine from my on-line E-mail, Microsoft Word, etc. However, when I attempt to print from Adobe Illustrator I get a "Print to file" WINDOW that comes up, I never got this before I don't want to print to file (!!!!). I want to print to the printer.
