Text has disappeared from Illustrator files? I can make a text box but no text shows up at all....when I pull up other files the text is missing aswell. I am sure I just clicked something
View 17 RepliesI opened Photoshop Elements one day and all of my files are gone. I thought that maybe I had accidentally "archived" them somehow, but I can't find anything that I have ever edited in the Organizer. It's as if I just installed it yesterday. I even tried to search for files with the date range function and it says that there isn't anything from the date range I put in, which was over a year.
Did I tell the Organizer to do something that I am unaware of? Where did all of my pictures and video go?
Some of my thumbnails/files are missing from my catalog but it won't let me import them because it says they are there. They are not hidden and the links aren't broken. They don't show up at all in any view. The jpg files are still in the folder on my desktop just not in the catalog. When this happened before, I just deleted that catalog and started fresh but now I have too much work in this one to just delete it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was working in Photoshop CS5.1 (OS X 10.7.5) and the original image I started with was saved in TemporaryItems, long story short I spent 4 hours working on an illustration and saving the .psd files versions in the same TemporaryItems folder, planning to move all the files tonight. Just came back to it and the files are gone! I may cry pixel tears, desperately running out of swear words.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Illustrator CC. My business partner is in CS6. When we save files to .pdfs or legacy versions, we lose the ability to use the character pallete. I can't change leading or use kerning tools. I am able to select the text box, and change letters, but that's it. I can't go in and select a line, and then change the leading. I can't select a line to change the kerning. When I open the version that my partner's worked on in CS6, I save it as a cc file. I'm not sure why we're losing all the editing capability. The box for "preserve Illustrator editing capabilities" is checked. We have always had different versions of Illustrator for the last 6 years we've worked together, and this hasn't ever been a problem.

I'm having this issue where the Measurement Labels have disappeared for no apparent reason. The option is still checked in the preferences. This happens both on my home comp and office comp. Both using CS5. There's a way to get it back but you have to delete the preferences file and reset all your preferences.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded an EPS image from Shutterstock assuming that I'd be able to replace the placeholder Latin text with my own words via Illustrator. Since then, I've learned from both StackExchange and this forum that the text in Shutterstock images is actually an uneditable "outline" and there's therefore no easy way to replace the sample text with useable text, nor is there a way to reverse-engineer which fonts/sizes were used in the original. This obviously makes Shutterstock images a lot less useful (glad I didn't subscribe!).
Are there any other Shutterstock-like services out there that sell stock EPS images that actually allow you to edit the text?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Illustrator CC and recently I have noticed that I can no longer snap and aligh objects to each other (with the automatic highlighted green color, which shows you the center, intersect e.t.c). As well as the Live corners aren't present, after pressing Direct selection tool nothing changes. None of the settings were changed, at least I was ticking snap to function back, but it didn't change anything again.
why I just can't see the Live corners? I was also able to see the green lines between shapes before, but now it isn't working at all. I am running it on Windows 7.
I was working on a project and using Smart Guides, but suddenly, they disappeared. I don't know what I did, the Smart Guide box is still checked in the View panel, and if I open a new document, they work just fine again. what other settings I should check?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat would be the best strategy on the usage of data set to translate our product packaging. It's quite complex as we have several languages on the same packaging. Moreover, we have different text sources that would require to be translated in different sets of languages.
I have already looked into the data set and I tried to get familiar with it. How to create the data set and how to name the different variables knowing that there are different source texts for a particular region (region means a set of languages) and other texts for another region... The idea is to export this into one XML file with well identified elements that can be split with a tool, sent for translation according to their region then merged back into one single file to be imported back into illustrator

It seems that the formatting such as bold, italic and so on is not exported into the data set which is quite embarrassing.
I was playing around with the guides making margins ect. I typed some text & went to grab it to expand it & now it wont work? It seems the anchor points are locked or something? I cant drag out the corner of a box to make it bigger or smaller either?
View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday while I was editing a project in After Effects I used the command-E within AE to open the selected filein my AE project in Illustrator. Everything was fine, I was able to move things across all exisint layers without changing the file layer organization structure. When I went to save the file, everything seemed to go fine and the asterisk went away indicating it saved the file. When I went back into After Effects, AE told instantly gave me an error: "After Effects error: File exists but couldn't be open for reading: "/Volumes/media/CRISP/Motion/_AIs/dining room.ai"/ (3 :: 0)". But when I go into that exact volume destination, the file is missing and I can't find it anywhere. The volume is a server on the network I use here at my job. The server has never had issues with deleted files or not being able to save files onto it. It is always on and connected.
Despite AE telling me it exists still but it can't open it, I can't find the illustrator file anywhere on my Mac or media server. I've done advanced searches with hidden files being visible and I've even looked in a couple hidden folders ".ExampleHiddenFolder" and I still can't find the file with a matching name or extension. I've even tried use the command-option-shift-open within Illustrator to see if I could open any visible file. I just can't find it anywhere and I don't know why Illustrator would just go and delete my file. Yesterday the Recent Files within Illustror would indicate that I had recently opened a dining room.ai file but when I would click on it to open it to try and recover it, AI said it couldn't locate the file. Now today the file history doesn't even show up in my recent files anymore (it is still the last file I opened in AI).
the rows/cells disappeared for my data in a bar chart in Illustrator CS5.5.The first number shows up but then I have to keep hitting tab but they are not divided into visible cells any longer.I usually see rows and columns like in Excel.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI must have hit some type of command on my keyboard but now my anchor points and intersect guides have disappeared that would normally appear when I roll my mouse over the anchor point or the intersecting paths. I have hit Ctrl + H as well as went to the menu manually and my edges are showing. How do I turn back on this ability to see my anchor points and intersecting lines guide in Illustrator?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have adobe CS5 and when I opened my software today, I discovered my swatches were gone from my tool bar. They are not entirely gone because I can get to them from my swatch libraries, however, I cannot drag and drop these swatches into my toolbar in order to click on them. I am trying to use the pen tool to draw a simple shape and the only swatches that come up is the none option (the white box with the red line going through it) and the registration, which I admitadly don't know much about.
I am using a Mac. I cannot figure out how to draw my shapes without a fill and using a black outline.
I have a single file with couple objects on different layers. When I copy/paste into other files, the objects seem to be grouped and layer information disappeared. Can I move around objects with layer setting as well?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a drawing with 3 different dynamic blocks for several weeks and everything has been working perfectly. However, all of a sudden this afternoon, the text in all 3 dynamic blocks disappeared and will not display on the screen in paper or model space, and does not print.
As best I recall, I was creating a polyline viewport when this text disappeared.
I cannot turn the text on in these dynamic blocks. The text in on layer 0 which is on, and is unlocked and unfrozen. Additionally I have turned on, unlocked and unfroze all layers in the dwg and this does not work. I have also checked the text layer in the block editor and it is on layer 0.
When I click on any of the blocks, all the information appears to be correct, ie: door numbers, text style, etc. The text, however, just does not appear. Also I have never set any invisible text parameters and when I open the block editor, nothing in the invisible text area is selected or select-able.
Previous versions of this drawing, which I saved yesterday, display all block text perfectly. Perhaps there is a setting I accidentally hit which caused this problem?
I have tried repeatedly turning on all the layers, unfreezing, unlocking, changing parameters in the Style menu. I closed Autocad and turned the computer completely off and back on again.
I work for a website company and spend a lot of time producing images which contain standard text within svg files for use on webpages. I have noticed that the text in these files often doesn't display properly: it is misaligned and in sarif. I have found this is due to many browsers not recognising the text 'Arial-MT' that illustrator uses as its standard Arial font.
It seems that Illustrator makes it impossible to save text within svg files as Arial - a universal font that all web browsers can read. This seems like a critical failure in Illustrator and basically makes Illustrator unusable for web-based svgs...
At the moment I have resorted to creating a program that finds and replaces Arial-MT to Arial within the actual svg file. Any actual way within illustrator to save Arial AS Arial and not this ridiculous Arial-MT fonttype that no webbroswer can use.
My colour swatches disappeared although I clicked on "show all swatches". What do I have to do to appear regularly when opening Illustrator?
