I'm working on some wedding invitations and I'm getting the order printed through uprinting.com. I got a proof back, but their comments said I need to either convert my text to outline if I submit an .ai file, or I need to save as PDF to embed the fonts for their use.
how to convert text to outline,how to export to PDF so that my fonts are preserved?
I've got Illustrator CS6.
I have a client who is requesting that their "image" be saved as a PNG at "715px X 915px at 72 dpi", and have it print with the text crisp and clear. I have tried to convince them to use a PDF instead to ensure that the print quality would be where they want it to be however they reject that idea.
1. They are requesting 72 dpi not ppi. There is a difference, one is screen one is print. You cant have both in my opinion. I have been using ppi, since that is the setting that illustrator and photoshop allows.
2. You also should not save anything for print at 72 ppi. That will not produce the best quality image regardless.
3. I have attempted several different ways to save this.
- I have saved it in illustrator as a png and mulitple resolutions.
- I have used my illustrator png and put in Photoshop and re saved it, after re sizing it. The dimensions in illustrator never seem to stay accurate.
- i have attempted to save it as a PDF and convert to PNG is acrobat.
None of these work. There is no issue getting it to look nice on screen, its the printing part that I am having an issue with. When I save it at anything higher then 72 it increases the dimensions. If I create it at anything higher then 72, the dimensions increase as well. I have not been able to keep it at 715px x 915 px and have it print clearly. They come back and tell me i need to decrease the size, or the text is too blurry.
How do I get this PNG to be 715px by 915px at a 72 ppi (or dpi) resolution look good on screen, and print with clear crisp text?
I am saving an adobe illustrator file as a jpeg for print at a photo center. When I export to save with a 300ppi, the photo center (Target) doesn't recognize the jpeg file. When I save for web, the photo center recognizes the file, but it prints very low quality (pixelized). Both jpegs are being saved at high quality.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am trying to save a .ai file for someone else to use, but when they open my file the layer structure and grouping has been reduced to Layer1 -> <Group> ->all layers. The other person uses CS6(PC) and I use CC (Mac), so i have tried saving as pdf,cs6 with pdf, cs6 without pdf and none of the methods keep the layers or grouping preserved. It's a mess and completely unusable because the other person can't sort through the layers.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I have text that I would like warp in an Arc. I will be cutting this on a plotter. WHen I use the envelope distort the envelope blocks my text in outline mode. If I go to Effect>Arc the warp only occurs in preview but the outlines do not change as the plotter would see it.
I'm sure there is some way to warp text into an arc and have the outlines remain visible and warped for the plottter to cut, no?
I create a logo in Illustrator. It is 2 colors, black and pantone 287. The gradient is only with the blue color. I save the file as a EPS. I place the EPS into another program, and generate a new EPS file with all the elements and type combined. My printer requires that all the fonts be converted to outline so I open the EPS again in Illustrator. The logo with the gradients has been converted to CMYK and the gradients now appear in the LINKS panel but they are not editable.
Why is this happening? How can I preserve the EPS so that I don't have to manually replace the converted gradient logo EVERY time I have to make a new EPS file?
When i open a PDF in acrobat X Pro, edit object, it open in Illustrator, its coming normal with all editable text, after making the changes saved the file. Again if I open same pdf in Illustrator (from as edit object in Acrobat X Pro) some text fields are becoming outline (The document contains PDF objects that have been reinterpreted: To preserve appearance, some text has been outlined.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI created a jagged line drawing in Processing, than exported it to PDF. When I opened it in Illustrator it was fine (I turned anti-aliasing off). But after saving it to PDF and reviewing in Adobe Acrobat the anti-aliasing was back on. Is there any way to preserve it? Or is it just Acrobat, that applies anti-aliasing when previewing? Is it possible to print it on paper in it's jagged format?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using CS2 on Mac OSX 10.4. Recently I tried importing a Photoshop image into Illustrator and then matching a color in Illustrator to a color in the Photoshop document. But Illustrator changed the CMYK values of the color in the Photoshop document even though I have "Preserve CMYK colors" checked in the color setup window. Both applications and files are set to SWOP v2.
I don't have the same problem when placing either Photoshop or Illustrator files into InDesign.
I ended up recreating the project in InDesign to get consistent color, but I need to know how to make Illustrator preserve color numbers for the project that will come up for which I need Illustrator features.
working in CS6, OS 10.6.8. I'm working on a 3-color screen print CD label, and the colors will be a white background, plus black and a PMS color. I've been recoloring some CMYK artwork to use in the design, and really liked the results of Recolor Artwork (selecting only black and the spot color), until I noticed that when I selected "tints & shades" it converted everything with black in it to process (which I know Adobe says is why you shouldn't select that option).
But my question is, how can I get the same effect (that is, using shades of the spot color "mixed" with black) without having it convert the shades to process? I'm sure it involves overprinting, but I'm hitting a big hole in my knowledge.
I have an on going issue with quite a few of my files. They look great in photoshop or when I save them as .jpg's or other images but when i save them as .pdf's (no matter the setting) the fonts render horribly showing only faint outlines and no fill. This is a major issue as I am sure you can see.

I have placed the color settings in Photoshop as per the magazines request.. They only accept .pdf and .eps and require embedded fonts or the fonts supplied.
I was wondering, how do i export the Photoshop file so that it embeds the fonts and retains the color profile provided from the magazine, into one of those suitable formats?

This does not seem to be much of a problem for True Type Fonts installed in the Windows 7 FONT Folder,but it would be very handy to have some simple quick document, or screen, that would do the same for the AutoCAD SHX font folder.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having this issue with autocad generated color PDF printouts having "fuzzy" fonts and some other black objects. What I have traced it to is that the PDF created by the stock Autodesk PDF ePlot renderer/driver is printing those fonts (and other things like lines with global width) in rich or enhanced black. 75,68,67,90 CMYK to be precise. When this is done without some sort of 100% K border (and sometimes even with) it leads to a blurring of the edges because the registration is never perfect. There is often even some ghosting due to the sheer amount of toner.
Some printer drivers have a way of forcing or selecting this "Enhanced Black" but I see nothing in the settings. I wonder if this can be externalized. It seems that at least fonts should almost never have this turned on.

Is there a way to set the Dwg to Pdf.pc3 so that when I hit plot, it "knows" to save the pdf in the bloody folder that the source .dwg file is located....I can see how to set it to 1 single default folder in Options ( i.e. my main Clients folder) but really, how to get to to plot to the source folder..... has got to be less than 1/2 hours worth of coding....I get pretty tired of browsing/scrolling etc to where I want the pdf to end up.

I notice that cropping an image and resizing it to fit 15cm x 10cm photo paper results in significant loss of definition. Should it make any difference saving to .png, for example, or is the damage already done because the camera creates a .jpg file instead of a lossless compression file?

What we do is have a large data set imported into the Variables applet and use the Actions applet to record and export action and play it through the whole data set. We later combine the PDF files and print them as a batch.
My question is: Is there a way to create an action that will automatically print the data set while avoiding the print dialog box? It will make the process simple and move faster.

I have a Samsung Laser printer. THe passive USB hub went bad yesterday, and I re-installed teh printer drivers. Everything prints fine from my on-line E-mail, Microsoft Word, etc. However, when I attempt to print from Adobe Illustrator I get a "Print to file" WINDOW that comes up, I never got this before I don't want to print to file (!!!!). I want to print to the printer.

One of my users no longer gets this option.
Every time he publishes the program goes directly to the Save List As dialog box so he can name/save a .DSD file. He no longer gets the option of a box asking him if he wants to save the current list of sheets.
My guess is some variable got changed that has removed the option of being prompted about saving the .DSD file.
P.S. We're using AutoCAD 2012.
