Illustrator :: Restriction Of Fine Movements

Sep 20, 2012

Snap seems to be on even if I turn it off. In CS6 I can arbitrarily create a circle. Then I create a cross shape I want to place in the center of the circle. I can place it near the center but somehow, there are these 'no man's land' unplaceable areas that are small increments but nevertheless there. I have all snaps turned off. Center objects on an axis doesn't work either.

I've tried this with Smart Guides on and off. I have tried placing a horizontal and verticle guide and turned snap to guides on, but still the cross will not allow me to move exactly where I want it.

Illustrator :: Stroke In Circular Path - Anchor Point Movements

Mar 4, 2014

So i've got a stroke in a circular path. I use the scissor tool and cut a segment of it out. Now, i want to move one of the end points up and have the anchor points after it follow the movement to keep the smooth line. I think Flash had a tool like this. It allowed you to manipulate one point that would affect the whole path depending on how extreme or what direction you went.

Illustrator :: Fine Move Key Combination For Precision Placement?

Jan 21, 2014

As I'm trying to arrange objects in the document, when I press the up/down keys to move them precisely, they move at an arbitrary large step.

Now, if I press the shift key while I move them, that step is further increased (like the previous was too small...).

So, is there any other key combination that reduces that step and makes it finer for a more precise placement as in other applications?

Illustrator :: Black Drop Shadow Bleeding Onto White Text During Printing (but Looks Fine On Screen)

Sep 25, 2013

For my business card design I have white text overlapping an area of very white grey- causing readability issues (insufficient contrast). It looks great apart from this one problem, so I still want to keep my white text and light background and fix it by separating the text and background with a darker drop shadow..

First, I added a black drop shadow to the text- but this was not enough to increase readability (text still looked faded on background as drop shadow was too subtle at 85% opacity, 0.04" blur) so I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow (100% opacity, 0.02" blur + 18% opacity, 0.02" blur). This produced a heavier drop shadow effect for my text as desired but, for some reason, the text came out slightly grey in print (offset run). It seems the drop shadow somehow got printed over the text itself to some extent- turning the white text somewhat grey (and so not looking as clean as intended).

How could this dropshadow bleed into the text happen? Is it to do with the fact I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow? I would have thought that, even then, the text should entirely overlap all of the drop shadow as the text is the top layer in the group.

What can I do to ensure that drop shadow does not print over text in any way in future? Do I have to stick to only one layer of dropshadow-or is there something else I'm missing?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sliding Joint Restriction In Dynamic Simulation

Jul 24, 2013

I have an issue with a sliding joint in a simulation. Here we have a very simple box with a cylinder that slides around a closed loop curve. The curve as you will see is described by two circles and one elipse that all overlap to give a smooth closed loop. In the assemble this all works fine - you can freely drag the cylinder around the curve. However in dynamic simulation when I try to insert a 'sliding cyclinder on curve' joint I get the message that only lines, arcs and splines can be used for a curve. If I change the elipse to another circle then I don't have this problem. So is Inventor restricted to arcs of circles rather than arcs of elipses? Is there a way around this?, Do have I have to draw the whole curve as a spline?

Paint.NET :: Printing Photos On Vinyl Wallpaper - File Size Restriction

Jun 25, 2012

I am planning to get some photos printed on vinyl wallpaper. The physical dimensions of the wall paper will be 1300mm x 2500mm and as I am ordering it online, there is an upload restriction of 8MB (file formats allowed are .pdf .jpg and .zip).

I would like to collage multiple images to create my wallpaper and plan to resize and edit each image before collating them in one large image. Then I will resize that image to be the final one (if that makes sense).

What I want to know is, is there any simple way to work out what my final image's pixel width and height will need to be to fit the 8MB restriction? I have no idea what the printing dpi is, the website only indicates that images should be 'at least 4MB for good quality'...which means nothing.

Ideally I would like to work with a starting image with 4x or 16x the pixels so it resizes nicely...I just don't know where to start.

VideoStudio :: Ripple Editing Movements

Oct 25, 2012

I completed the editing of a multi- camera edit using two tracks. The second cameras footage on the second track was towards the end of the production.

I then proceeded to add the music and sound tracks at the beginning with full ripple editing activated and when doing this I tweaked and removed a few clips to match the music which reduced the production by about 40 seconds in all.

When I got to where the synced clips were, they had moved by about 15 seconds. I had dozens of these from the second camera on the second track that took hours to edit and cut into place. However I managed to move them all in one go by highlighting them all and re-syncing the first one which made all the others fall in line again.

VideoStudio :: Pro X3 - Jerky Movements And Pixelation

Nov 15, 2010

I am using a trial version of Videostudio Pro X3 and am experiencing some difficulty producing good quality DVD's & video files (via share->Create Video File).

My original video has been captured from an 8mm camcorder and is good quality. The file type is MPEG-2 TS Video & is 2.2GB.

If I import it into the timeline, select Share->Create Video File->Custom and set the video data rate to 8000kps
my resulting mpg file has overall good quality but there are some very jerky movements and pixelation.

These are not present in the original mpeg-2 file. I get a similarly poor result if I select Share->Create Disc which starts up DVD Factory and burn a disc

However, if I have nothing in my timeline and select Share->Create Disc which starts up DVD Factory, add media, selecting my MPEG-2 TS Video file and then burn a disc. The resulting disc is excellent quality with no jerky movements or pixelation.

However, this isn't much use to me because I want to edit my video but seems to prove that something strange is happening in VideoStudio Pro X3 or my use of it.

I am just trying to fix some seems for a texture in Photoshop. I'm using a pretty simple method of a half opacity Clone Stamp brush and just tapping the obvious seams with other parts of the image.

All goes well till about 38 seconds into it the Clone Stamp makes a huge streak in the lower left half of the video. You'll even notice that my cursor didn't go over there.... its similar to drawing lines while holding shift (giving you straight lines) but it happens randomly and not on purpose... any ideas?

Lightroom :: Sync History Movements

May 11, 2012

For the second time, which is two times too many, I've found myself browsing through images and noticed they were all starting to change. Essentially I've apparently instigated a sync settings command to too many images and it wasn't immediately noticable when it happened so I couldn't just do a Ctrl-Z to undo it. I want to make sure I'm not missing something that would allow me to sync all selected images back a step in History. I would think this would be an easy enough feature to add to any version of Lightroom (using LR3 for now because I'm waiting for the LR4 I purchased to get an update that might speed it up). I've checked out auto script programs but they're a bit unweildy and frankly Lightroom should have that feature available.

Xara :: Resizing Columns / Keyboard Key To Ignore Vertical Movements

Aug 9, 2013

I'm looking at the expanded DTP functionality in XDP9 and have question about resizing columns.

Say I wanted 2 columns that were different widths - I would open up the 'A4 1-Column' template, select the Text tool, right-click inside the column, take the 'Columns...' option, increase Number of columns to 2 then adjust each columns width as desired by dragging the red corner handles. The problem here is that it is very easy to inadvertently alter a columns height because it's very difficulty to move a mouse horizontally without wavering a little bit vertically up or down. Is there a constrainer keyboard key or some other method that ensures vertical movements are ignored?

GIMP :: Jerky Mouse Movements (particularly With Using Free Select Tool)

Dec 31, 2012

At first I thought it was a touchpad problem, but I discovered that three different optical mice have the same issue + a 4th optical mouse on a different computer also experiences this issue...

particularly when I am using the free select tool, the mouse movements start to get VERY jerky when I am going around corner after corner when my image is zoomed to 100% or greater on a 2500px or larger image, it lots of times causes me to mess up because it jerks around a lot... no other program has this issue, not even other programs where I need to get into tight corners with a mouse!!! this ONLY happens in Gimp!!! other tools have this jerky mouse movement problem to but is experienced mostly using free select!!! How do I fix this Gimp jerky mouse movement issue??? Gimp seems to be the only program with this issue!!!

AutoCAD Inventor :: Pick And Place Movements - Cool Robot Clip

Dec 31, 2011

If you're interested take a look at the attached video clip.

What you will see is one robot tending two tool changers.

I know the quality was rushed, but you should see that one of the two stands actually has the end effector tooling on it.

My question is how do i define a grip from the robot to that tool, so I can move it to the other riser (as you can tell from the animation).

I am not working in Inventor Studio, otherwise this would be somewhat simple. I am doing this in Dynamic Simulation.

My thought was to create a spacial joint between the robot and the tool. But then how would I control through the timing where its location is?

3ds Max :: Fine Tuning Modifiers When Using AudioFloat

May 9, 2013

using AudioFloat and then fine tuning Modifiers assigned to AudioFloat.

First, I think I understand that the Min/Max of the Audio Controller allows you to vary the intensity by which AudioFloat affects the Modifier's execution synchronized to the song, although I don't fully understand exactly what the Min/Max are doing, (btw - Max's help menu doesn't seem to have anything about AudioFloat, at least not that I could find).

For example, I find that when I vary Max, when using Bend as the Modifier, I can change how much the object bends to the right (higher values seem to make it bend more).

However, when I start to adjust the Min up with positive values, that seems to push the object more to the right, but when I adjust the Min with negative values, that seems to completely shift the objects bending towards the left and totally eliminates the right bend...

When I flip the relationship (hold Max negative and vary Min positive/negative), I get the reverse. So I can't seem to make the bend go BOTH left and right. Right now I seem to be able to only make bend go in one direction.

Also, I can't figure out what Threshold and Oversampling do. I have noticed that Threshold as it approaches 1, makes the bend stiffer so that at 1 there is no bend. As for Oversampling regardless of what number I enter, I don't visually see any change.

Finally, I don't seem to be able to control how the Modifier is synchronized to the instruments in the song. Right now, it seems like the Audio Float is synchronizing the Modifier to all of the instruments and the result is kind of like watching Speedy Gonzales on speed or something- it's just way too much motion but I can't figure out how to modify the synchronization.
