I'm looking for a way to select multiple objects (all identical) and resize them all at once without also changing their positions.
Said another way, I'd like to resize a group of identical objects but instead of there being a single center/anchor point in the middle of the bounding box, I'd like each object within the group to retain it's center/anchor point (so multiple anchor points) and resize based on those positions.
I would like to outline a grouped object with a single stroke line and not have each object outlined individually. It is a complex image with some clipping masks and effects applied.
I've came across a thought, how to transform a grouped object. like in Photoshop when we use the distort transformation, we can manipulate the corner points for a particular occasion. Here in the example I have 3 rectangles one smaller than another, and I I have grouped them. Now I'm trying to figure out a way how to adjust the shape into the grey one. I have used the free distort tool, but does no justice. because there is no preview so I cannot see how it adjusts. I'm only after the equivalent of the distortion like in Photoshop.
In my image, the top rectangle has been curved to its finished shape (bottom). I did this before, with actually several objects together. They all curve with the rectangle.
I tried to do this again, using all kinds of Transform tools (shear) and Effect tools, and everything I could find, but nothing worked. I thought maybe Shear might work if I could pin down the middle of the rectangle and shear both sides of the rectangle upward, but this doesn't work. I think I'll start taking notes when I find something that works !
How do I do this simple curving of single object or group of objects?
Say I have a group that consists solely of five triangles. Is it possible to use simultaneously align or distribute functions on while selecting just those five triangles? It seems like I can align up to four triangles at a time within the group, but when I select all five Illustrator interprets that I'm trying to align the entire group with another object outside of that group. Key objects don't seem to be supported in this situation.
When i call the method selectObjectsOnActiveArtboard on an artboard, is there a way to easily group all items in the selection? Like in the menu found under "right click > group"
I've created a heart using many strokes (like a child would do with crayons). So it's made up of many lines grouped together. I've expaned the stroked lines, so they are now a group of objects in a heart shape. I need to fade them from 100% red to 100% transparent. I don't know how to do this with a group of items.
how can I align a group of objects to the center of the artboard or elsewhere. Rt now it aligns each object in the group to the center, but I need the group as a whole to be centered.
Here's my issue... lets say I have 600 different objects in illustrator (just little circles with a fill color, no stroke) and 6 different colors that these circles should be. That means, I'd like about a 100 to be one color, 100 another color, etc... Is there anyway to select all 600 and just tell Illustrator that I have these 6 colors and I want to apply them to the selected objects randomly?
Is there any way to create a thicker line stroke to the border of the object without tracing the object manually. The object in placed in a group and it has closed and unclosed paths.
I am working on a personal data visualization project but currently stuck and can't go forward. As you can see below in the image, I created all my data bars and tried to distribute them on a 360 degree path myself.
But clearly, I couldnt able to create a perfect 360 path.
All of the bars are each group objects on their own. I am sure there is a way to distribute them perfectly on Illustrator but I cant find it. There is a option on Blend>Replace Spine but it is not active.
I'm working with imported graphics, and the objects appear in the AI layer hierarchy grouped and named according to their object types in the native program (see the attached image). The problem lies with the annotation objects: they are made of different parts for which different graphic styles are needed; however, they all come in one layer and are difficult to access for global operations. I need to do different things with the different object types (delete the POINT's, move the LINE's and LWPOLYLINE's to different layers, etc...). The option of selecting objects individually is ok for small data sets, but you can imagine this becomes untenable in a hurry.
Two possible solutions I've considered:
(1) change the output parameters in the source program such that the objects come into illustrator with different graphics allowing them to be accessed through the "Select same ..." tools; it would work, but is problematic for the source program
(2) print the annotation graphics with their desired graphic appearance to pdf rather than importing the source file directly in AI, then open in AI to render the remaining graphics; again, this works but introduces inefficiency in the process. Also, the print process tends to explode closed paths requiring more inefficient path tinkering in AI.
I would like to tell AI to select all objects named "POINT" or "LINE" etc... but have found nothing in the documentation or forums on whether this is possible.
Illustrator CC keeps crashing whenever I try to move a path or an object in a live paint group. I've tried it on other computers, but they seem to work fine. It seemed to only affect my laptop, so I'm not sure what happened. Restarting and updating it doesn't seem to solve the problem.
Here are the technical specifications for my Macbook Pro:
Mid-2009 Macbook Pro 15" 2.8 GHz model w/ SD card slot Intel Core 2 Duo Has Mavericks 4 GB of RAM
In CS5, you could move a group/layer/artboard along with all of the child objects, even if some of the objects are locked. But in CS6 the locked objects remain unmoved.
I want to know how I can resize the width/ length of a art?
I went through APIs and got some useful suite like AITransformArtSuite. But I am unable to use it's method TransformArt. since I don't know how to create appropriate AIRealMatrix.
I've taken a large quantity of digital photos during the rare snow we had this year. Am new at digital and unfortunately I took at too great of a resolution for what I want to do with them.
I am making GIF backgrounds for PPT, and some grouping will have as many as sixty pics in them. But the file sizes are HUGE (my goof) and GIF animators can't handle them.
Is there any way to compress batches of photos all at once? (Can't find that on the Batch command unfortunately) Resizing them one by one is laborious, even using hotkeys. Time is an issue.
I am not able to use the "group" command in AutoCAD LT 2013. Instead, I get the message "group with same objects already exists" when there is no existing group.
I built a building in AutoCAD Architecture 2013 and inserted the file into 3DSMax 2013 via the file link manager. I would like to group certain AEC objects from my DWG file in 3DSMax so that I can assign materials, move them around without losing placement, but the "Group" and "Assemble" drop-downs are disabled. Why am I not able to group these objects?
I'm trying to rotate a group of objects along an axis that is not x y or z. The objects are imported from Rhino. I also import a line representing that rotation axis. How do I set that line to be my axis?
I am trying to group 10 objects together but every time i try to group them I get a message saying "Operation could not be completed. Active layer document grid is locked or invisible."
But even when i turn on the document layer visibility it still won't let me group them, and I can't turn the print or edit buttons on.
I have a Guitarfretboard that is build of 3 groups.(as in the pic)
What i want to do is create kind of a "stairway to heaven". So i would need to deform the whole group and make twirls and ups and downs, like a railcoaster.
The best way that i found to do that is to set a lattice on the group. But then when I deform the lattice points the single groups wont hold together anymore and start to seperate and mess up.
I have a drawing of several walls (so different lines, dimensions, text). I want to draw around it a box of certain size (actually, 1:5 A4) so that it will be centered in the box.
I have a large group of objects, all one color. I need to make a subtle change to the color. Is there a easy way to change all the colors in a group of object to another specific color? Some objects only have an outline, and some only have a fill without having to go through each object one by one in the object manager?
I find it extremely annoying to have to Ungroup named groups and then regroup and rename them in order to do a multiple selection of group members. I find I'm constantly ungrouping and regrouping in order to select/edit.
Note that the multiple items are often not the same type of object (e.g., text, line, shape, etc.).
I am running AutoCAD 2010 full version. Every time I select a line or a group of lines or objects. My program freezes up for a couple of seconds each time, to scan the drawing. So a task that should take 10-15 minute is turning into 25-30 minutes nightmare. Every selection I make there will appear a progress bar and the words "Scanning the drawings..." in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Is there some setting somewhere i can turn this scanning feature off? Is this issue linked to the layer states?
How to force objects to move together without making them a block or a group? Never used the anchor command but it doesn’t' seem to "like" my objects either.
Specifically, I have a dynamic block I need to move with a table and not move from the cell it is placed above.
