Illustrator :: Prepare File For Printing?
Nov 3, 2013
I had to send some logos to a printing company, in order for them to laser-print the logos on some pens. They replied back to me, saying that the logos needed to be "broken into curves" before they could go ahead and print them.

I have to draw big drawing which is consisted with 6 pages A0. I cant change the scale - this is requirements.
My question is: how to prepare model for printing? It is easy to draw it in sheet "Model" but how to prepare it for printing? Maybe I should divide drawing, but what to do it and what with margins.... After printing I have to receive real dimension (5cm must be 5cm after printing). I will use AutoCad2009

I use the variations adjustment almost exclusively to manipulate art and prepare for flexographic printing. With flexo printing we can not let separations drop off to 0% within an image. We are still film based output. The smallest percentage for highlights that will hold on plate is 2%. If there are any areas within the image that fall below 2% the plate may or may not hold that dot which in turn may or may not result in mountain ranging or dirty print once on press.
Using the magic wand > tolerance > contigous on or off depending of situation, I can make pinpoint selections to those problem areas then adjust using variations > highlights > fine > with each time I select darker it adds 1%.I'm using CS5 in 32-bit mode. Since upgrading to CS6 with no option of running in 32-bit mode I've been testing the shadows/highlight option for these adjustments. While it does work, it is not as accurate as variations.
Curves seems to be the best alternative solution to variations. With the Pigment/Ink% selected and Output at 2% I've saved a preset that automatically adds 2% to each cmy. Or I can adjust individual channels separately.
Using the variations option was much quicker than curves which overtime slows my production. I edit 15 plus images a day. That extra 2 or 3 minutes it takes me to perform the same task in curves that I could perform with variations adds up to about an hour a day.

I am re-setting as advert for a client who has asked that the artwork be sent to the publisher as; QUOTE - "Artwork to be supplied in high-resolution PDF. All images within the PDF must be 300dpi images formatted to PPA Pass4press Version 9" I can download the presets from the PPA website, but which one? None are for Illustrator CC (only CS3 and CS5). Does it actaully matter? and is it simply a case of creating the PDF using this PDF preset in my drop down menu?
I remember when all you had to do was make sure you were working in CMYK, create outlines, embed images, and used a hi-res setting (Press quality). I'm really just a little unsure.

I'm preparing artwork for a DLX sized envelope. The printer (CMYKonline) only offers 1 or 2 colour printing for this size envelope, not full colour printing. I have never used Pantone colours before, and I downloaded a trial copy of Adobe Illustrator.
I have the logo prepared as a print-ready PDF using Pantone 1788U for the red. (It's a very simple image, using no other colour save white.)
I inserted the image using Place (figured that one out); I typed in the text (black) and a solid line using Pantone 1788U again.
But how on earth do I make this artwork ready for the printer as specified?

How do I set my Illustrator file to print clearly?
I am designing a simple label (3.75 x 1.25 inches, black and white) that is mostly text based. I tried printing directly from Illustrator and also as a converted PDF (high quality) and the results are the same - slightly blurry and fuzzy text.
The printing problem seems to only happen when I try to print Illustrator files and PDFs converted from Illustrator. (Printing with a laser printer.)

I have poster-sized file (32'' x 70'') that I need to send to my printing company. It will be printed at 200%. Will a PDF not be clear enough? There is one image. Do you need to "package" like in Indesign so they have the high res images and fonts?
Whats the best way to send a file for a high quality print?

A customer sent us their label in an AI file. Trying to print this onto a 3 x 1 label (which is small), the output looks pixelated. Looks like the whole thing is a graphic rather than text.
I have attached an image of the label as an example. **Please note that the label is copyrighted. Please do not re-distribute or otherwise print.**

I have just upgraded from CS3. My workflow when preparing files for the printer is to print to postscript file, then use distiller to convert the file to pdf for sending.
CS3 retained the file location, so that each time I performed the same action, it went straight to the previous folder where the postscript file (for the current AI file) was created.
Now, in CS6, it takes me back to 'My Computer' (equivalent in Windows 7) every time... which is really, really frustrating to have to re-navigate back to the same server path every time I output the file. (Which I do a lot as I do final checks and proofing within acrobat, so need to perform this process frequently).

I've recently picked up Illustrator CS5, when I save a file (or print) as a PostScript file. My aim is to convert the file to a PDF using Distiller and in the Print dialogue box, the PPD field in past versions says something along the lines of Adobe PDF 8.0. In CS5, I do not have the option to select that from the PPD drop down menu (Nor can I find the file to add to the list). Additionally, I can't make a 'custom sized pdf,' only preset paper sizes. I've had to resort to opening my files in CS3 to convert them to PostScript files. I forsee this becoming a problem once I start diving into some of Illustrator CS5's new features.
I get the feeling the program didn't install with an Adobe PDF plug-in and I can't seem to find a substitute online that isn't from 1999 (!). Is there a way to get that plug-in file that my copy of CS3 is using into my CS5?

I am trying to send a file to a newspaper for print. Only thing is Illustrator makes the files massive.
A normal newspaper ad ends up to be 58MB when converted to PDF. When i make something in Indesign it only exports to about 8MB for PDF.

I want to remove color from images to prepare them for being autotraced in AI.
Is there an advantage to using Image > Mode > Grayscale vs. Image>Adjustments>desaturate vs. Image>Adjustments>hue saturation and dropping down the saturation vs.
Image>Adjustments>Threshold for this purpose?
Do these all generally do the same thing, or would one of these result in a better job of turning my image to black and white with higher contrast?

I have posted a new training video series on the Smoke Learning Channel.Mocha Pro to Smoke Interoperability
In these videos, you learn how to prepare data in Mocha Pro and export the settings into Autodesk Smoke. This includes Tracking Data, Masking Data and 3D Camera Tracking Data. It's a really good series to watch even if you are not using Mocha Pro with Autodesk Smoke.
You can view the video on the Smoke Learning Channel at URL....or you can download the video via iTunes. Just search for the Smoke Learning Channel.
You can also download the Media and follow along at: URL....

I'm looking for the complete instruction set prepare Visual Basic Studio 2010 Express to program Inventor 2012 Professional.
At the moment, all I've done is to install VB Studio Basic 2010. If I'm not mistaken, don't I have to "configure" VB 2010 Express so it can be used with Inventor 2012?

I need to prepare a linked chain araound a defined path. (Please have a look at the attached drawing) My idea is to have one element of the chain defined as a dynamic block and to manually "rotate" one side of the chain element. After that inserting the next element (previously aligning the user coordinate system) and "rotating" the right part again to the next position...
After doing the rotation, the block definition will change and the next block will be "disformed". So far no big problem, but the grip of the rotation parameter will stay there and I am not able to "rotate" the right part back into the old position (0 degree).

I am designing t-shirts in Photoshop that will be printed out by a number of employees in different locations, and with different printers. These designs will be printed on special A4 paper and then transferred on to the t-shirts using a heat press.
But I am worried that I will have issues with "outside of the printable area" type errors on certain printers. I would rather not have use the "crop to fit" option as this will mean I lose quality.. Should I just set a default margin for all of my t shirt template psd files? Or is there a better way around this?

When I print to DWG to PDF the schedule is there but the text is really heavy and the file size is extremely large. This is causing a problem when combining PDF drawing sets, the files crash. why when I try to print an excel file to Adobe PDF that the schedules disappear?
