I created an ad in color but might possibly be required to provide it in black and white also. However, The file contains an image that's in color. So I need to know if there is an option to print the file to PDF in black and white? I tried changed the settings many times to no avail. I'm using DP7.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am creating a design which uses an elliptical fill. When exported as a .pdf and opened in Illustrator, the fill is given the name "non-native art" and is rasterized. My question is this: if the print job were for the side of a van, could XDP be used to do this and retain a pure vector output?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to get some designs I've done printed, the design are pretty simple block colors and shapes, Xara Xtreme 5 is brilliant for doing these designs. However the T-Shirt printers (spreadshirt) want to files a vectors graphics. This is what they say on the site
Transforming objects into curves
Transform all design elements and text into curves.
This is possible with Corel Draw: highlight the part of the design you want to convert. Click on 'set up' - 'transform into curves'.; You may run into a few problems when converting complex pixel graphics into curves. Try to convert as few individual objects and colors as possible. Note: vector graphics for plot printing can have up to three colors per design.
Check the minimum size of the object
After you've converted to curves, you'll have to check every element of the design to make sure that it has a minimum size of 1.5 mm. One trick for checking this: create a small circle with a diameter of 1.5 mm and lay it over the smallest parts of the design. If the area is smaller than the circle, it's too small for plot printing.
Save image as vector graphic
Unfortunately, you cannot just open a pixel graphic into a vector program and save it in a vector format (.eps.) This is not enough. You have to manually make sure the pixel graphic has been converted into curves.
Can I just export as an .eps and it'll work, or do I need to convert to editable shapes then export?
I've included a URL to a screen grab that shows how the artwork falls off the desired background. And so effects what gets printed ... I think.
What is the normal way to cause the printed product to cut off at the desired edge?
In this case the blue noisy bkg is the exact size of what is supposed to get printed.
I used to use Xara Xtreme 4 and loved it. Since changing my computer to one with Windows 7 I have not been able to use Xara Xtreme.
Needed to print out an old Xara image today so downloaded and installed Xara Web Designer 7 as this seems to be the nearest I can get to the old Xara Xtreme that runs on my laptop.
However, I can't find any "Print" option. It's not under File, Ctrl P doesn't do anything, nothing under right clicking. I need to print something quickly and I've given up trying to find the Print option. where have they 'hidden' Print?
Also, am I correct in thinking Web Designer 7 is the nearest program with features to Xara Xtreme or are the features of Xara Xtreme loss forever to this new web site design program?
I export pngs almost exclusively from Xara. I have always opened them in PSP and changed the resolution to 118.50 (about 301dpi) so they are print ready.
I have to make over 21,000 arrows (sob) and having to open each and every one of them in PSP is not something I am looking forward to. There is a way to change the png export resolution to something more suited for printing.
This post is regarding using Designer Pro to edit print ready PDF's (with crop marks, colour bars etc) created using Photoshop and Illustrator. I can do the edits, but if I try and export the file it corrupts (colour values change, some text changes col)
The files are supplied to me by a designer and sometimes I need to do urgent changes myself before going to print. I have unticked the 'add printers marks' box to avoid a double set of marks and colour bars and have the fonts installed too.
What is the best way to convert a color photo to black and white for commercial printing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI haven't posted here in a while because I haven't needed to but recently I switched from X5 to X7.1 (because it was only $25), I have it downloaded and for the most part working. I'm having a problem and I'm not sure why. I simply cannot open AI, EPS, or SVG files. I know th files aren't corrupt because I opened them with X5. With every file I get the error message attached. I've tried run as admin but it didn't change anything. I've ran debug and it doesn't show those filters as loading. Could this be quirk of the downloaded version?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am a software developer. I've spent a lot of time in the last few years building crazy GUIs for a simulation product. I had previously discovered Xara Xtreme for doing software design illustrations and other documentation, so I decided to try using it for making icons and graphics for GUIs. We had some pretty old graphics in our system from 15 years ago, so the bar was pretty low. I was able to teach myself some basic techniques and I think I did a fair job at tremendously improving our graphics. We have artists, but they are generally doing 3D models for the simulator, not GUI graphics.
Anyway, I was very impressed with what even a motivated but untrained programmer could do with Xara. Constantly having to export bitmaps was a bit of a pain, though. What I really wanted was to be able to draw the graphics I had designed in Xara directly in my software, and I wanted to do it on the mac.
There was many a stumbling block, but I managed to be able to draw all of the geometry correctly and I have also implemented solid and linear fills. No shadows, contours, bitmaps, molds, text, effects, etc. I got frustrated with Quartz because it could not render every fill case. I also got frustrated with the Xara spec that was obviously out of date and had many omissions in it.
My initial goal was to write a card game that used vector graphic cards in Xara format. My renderer can actually draw everything I need for decent looking but basic card designs, but I wanted to round out the feature set a bit more and support more effects like edge feathering, more fills, shadows, text, etc. I did one drawing of a court card from a pack of Bicycle Cards, and then I did some research on playing card artwork and bought a pretty old deck of cards with some of the original designs that modern cards are based on. I did one drawing from that deck as well. As I understand it, as long as I don't copy the back, the Ace of Spades, or the Joker designs I'm ok from a copyright perspective. These cards are so old they are probably beyond copyright anyway. Furthermore, the printing techniques back then were so imprecise that my end result is more of an interpretation of the original than a copy.
Any tricks to be learned for getting these smaller in file size?I have a 450px by 543px that I want to use as the main log of my website but the file size is...get this...you ready 200k+

I am designing t-shirts in Photoshop that will be printed out by a number of employees in different locations, and with different printers. These designs will be printed on special A4 paper and then transferred on to the t-shirts using a heat press.
But I am worried that I will have issues with "outside of the printable area" type errors on certain printers. I would rather not have use the "crop to fit" option as this will mean I lose quality.. Should I just set a default margin for all of my t shirt template psd files? Or is there a better way around this?
how can i print 2 copies of the same image into 1 sheet of A4 size paper?

I'm putting the finishing touches on a painting I've been working on using PSE4 and Xara Pro 7, and I've run into a problem: Xara won't open the image. The image is in TIFF. The error code I get is this: 0ee3d87d-4061-4c60-ad08-89d82ea87ffc. I've been able to open previous versions of the image in Xara. This image has a lot more detail, so I wonder if file size is this issue?

Designer is simply frozen, no matter how long I wait. I can click on all sorts of things but nothing happens.

If I have Designer open already, then sometimes I can click on 'Continue' but not always.
I exported a part of a Xara design as a .xar file and choose 'selection' when prompted (as opposed to 'drawing'). This successfully create a .xar with just the objects I selected, however when I go to File->Import and select this file the preview panel shows an image of the entire original document, which is misleading as to the contents of the .xar. Bug or not?

I found the perfect image on Can Stock Photo, available as either a 300dpi JPG or as the above-noted Adobe EPS file. I'd much rather have the vector file. It's the same price and can be more easily manipulated if necessary.
The Support team at Can Stock gave me the info on which program created the image. Xara PD6, whether an EPS created with this particular version of Adobe is compatible with Xara?
