Illustrator :: Open And Save Dialogues To Be Current With Operating System
Jan 31, 2013
A thread exists from 2011 that is now closed with a reply from "adobe" saying they are working on providing updated dialogue boxes. [URL] ...
The reply from Adobe stated that they have to support legacy operating systems, which I'm pretty sure is handled by the installer, so it's a sad excuse. One could simply say "if XP" load this dialogue hook, if win 7 use this hook.
What is the status of this lack of effort?
We waste more time trying to save a file with this old school dialogue than is required.
Now no save for web operation completes due to an error "Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occured."NOTHING has changed on the system.
I've trashed Photoshop pref... all of them.I've reinstalled the Mac OS 10.7.5 combo update.I've rebooted to a different drive and repaired disk and permissions (no issues found).I've Safe Booted.I've disabled ALL plug ins.
Uninstalling and will reinstall/update to see if that works.

Do I have to deactivate my copy of CS6 before I do a reinstall of the operating system or, will it recognize the reinstall of the program (CS6) as legitimate and just install it with out any problems? I have never done this before with Adobe products.
I've got a Surface Pro and would like to load PhotoShop Elements 11 on this machine. It's a tablet that uses Windows 8 Pro. No mention of this OS in the required specs.
I'm having a problem throught CS6 with the Open, Save, or Save As dialog boxes not opening for a period of time after clicking on the desired functions. It can take over a minute just to get the Open dialog box up to browse for a file. Eventually, the dialog boxes open, but during the time that it's trying to open, the program is unresponsive. It is happening with all of my CS6 programs. I have unistalled and reinstalled with no fix. The programs are updated.
Using the VB.NET example code on exchange.autodesk.com for Defining a User Coordinate System, I pretty much copy and pasted the code to suit my needs. While the example shows how to create a UCS origin, X Axis and Y Axis from scratch, I am attempting to simply cast the values from the system variables UCSORG, UCSXDIR and UCSYDIR. These system variables are read only, and when looking into the types, I believe they are all 3D Point type values.
I'm experiencing errors when trying to run the following code, and it's making me wonder whether what I'm attempting to do is possible. The JIT Debugger is pointing out a System.InvalidCastException. Is there a problem with setting a Point3D value (from the system variable) to a Vector3D type (which is required for defining a new ucs)?
Public Sub saveCurrentUcs() 'get the current document and database Dim acDoc As Document = Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument Dim acCurDb As Database = acDoc.Database
I'm trying to build some export presets with a naming convention to include the current system date, eg: YYYYMMM-Title-Custom Text. This convention is oftened required for photo club, local, national & international photo competitions. The only date function I can find is the 'capture date'. Is there a way to modify the Export Filename Template Editor to include 'current system date' ??
Here is a KB-article mfor "Changing font used for palettes"
[URL]
(BTW: The "Applies to" - list is not up-to-date and the setting accepts only the font but not the colour)
But how to change the font which appears in the dialogue of Editors (Texted, att-ed, ...)? Yesterday I changed the Windows setting for "Dialogtext" (Messagetext?), but the dialogues only changed the colour but not the font ...?
My current task is this: Open xml file from file system (later this will be from a remote service), parse the xml, display content from xml to user. There are further steps after this, but I am stuck at the first step itself. What illustrator plugin sdk APIs allow me to parse xml and create a dom out of it?
I would like to be able to save all open Illustrator files at once.
For example: I am working on a series or collection of designs. Each design has multiple artboards in it that make the files rather large. I am making minute changes to each one that require grunt work. I would like to be able to open 10-20 files at a time, copy and paste the chagnes i need, hit Save All and walk away. So is there a way: a command, a script, something that does this?
How do I save an illustrator cc file to open in cs6? I get an error when I send the file to a colleague and they cant open it.It doesn't give me any options.
when i go to open or save a file in illustrator, the pop up box will only last 2 seconds? i just recently installed the new maverick osx but it was working fine yesterday.
I've downsaved the file as an ai file for CS6 in CS7, however when I go to open it in CS6 it forces me to open each artboard as a separate file. How can I save it so the file will open normally?
I am having an issue placing my Ai file, saved multiple ways, in InDesign without losing quality? Maybe save settings or a step-by-step? I work between Ps, Ai, Id often but just started using Ai to create my own graphics.
I am just trying to save a PDF from my illustrator file. However, when I go to Save as, and select PDF, no dialog box opens to allow me to set how I want the file outputted. IF I just hit enter, the file does save.. its just like the Dialog box is hidden or not appearing. The reason I need the dialog box is because I need to add bleeds to the PDF and my default save doesn't do that.
I am new to Corel Draw X4 after using illustrator. I created some artwork for a client in hot pink. But when I try to print, or to save as a pdf, or open in illustrator it is not pink.
What do I need to do with my color settings? I have contacted Oki who assisted my in downloading the correct driver to print pantone colors. Therefore must by color settings in Corel Draw?
I work in a print shop that prints biggish stuff. I will frequently have files that postscript to close to a GB or more. Working on simple vector art with a few images in CC is not too much of a problem, but I still notice CC is slower than CS 6. The big problem is when I get a few 200mb PDF's, or files with layers of transparent PSD files in them etc, big busy files, then AI CC really bogs down, or frequently crashes altogether. CS 6 is MUCH better. I don't have the font issues, AI CC works fine with simple files. Saving & opening these big files is such a problem, I just save them back to CS 6, but that causes problems too, I do not want to, nor should I have to have 2 versions open at the same time.
I always try to optimize the files as best possible, but it is tough sometimes as they R supplied by the customer, and the time it takes. We save to a Windows Server 2008 R2 box over gigabit network, which I know is not best practice, but no choice with the sheer volume of files. Would B insane to try to keep track & copy them back & forth, and it was never a big issue with CS 6. I am the first victim in our office, but the other 3 Mac Pro's will B switching over to CC this week, and I know the operators will B crying.
I am currently working on the schematics of a quite big document and I am using Illustrator. I work on the .ai version of the figures but I want to save them in a very quick way as pdf files with personal setting (super compression, no preview...). What I am doing now is that I have my .ai file open, and when I want to save a pdf version of it I go to "File" then "Save a copy" then "Type: pdf" and I enter a name, I click on "Save" and a window pops up with some options. Here, I select a personal preset and then click on "Save pdf" and I am happy with the final saved pdf.
The thing is that it is a quite long process when you have to do it several times per figure. I tried to automatized it through a script (or action) but the available options are quite limited (it is hard to make Illustrator understand that if the current file is myfig.ai, I want a myfig.pdf and that I want to save it in the working folder). Under "File", I also tried the "SaveDocsAsPdf" script but once again, I have to select the folder where I want to save the figure and so on. Maybe I missed something. Any efficient way to save my figures as pdf by clicking a the F9 key (for instance).
I'm using Illustrator for work and I love it, I never needed scripts yet. Now I have couple houndred svgs coming in per day, I would like to have a script that opens every svg one by one in the selected directory and add them to a pdf as pages of the same size and than save it.
Everytime I try to run 3ds max design I get this error messenge
" An error has occurred and the application will now close. Do you want to attempt to save a copy of the current scene? "
It happens during the lunch screen after loading all the plugins. I searched a lot and tried everything, from updating the video drivers to changing the video card used, to changing the graphics sittings to reinstalling it, still nothing changed the messege shows and the app closes.
I have two PC's side-by-side, running the same version of CS6. On one PC, I can see my Libraries from the "save as" and "open" dialogue boxes and on the other I have can't have have to dig down to find the folders I want to save to. I don't have any plug-ins installed, and I have not edited the registry.
I want to open a "Save File Dialog " with some default path.Like when user run that script I want to open a "Save As" dialog box with default path "/Volumes/<shared name>/<folder name>/.. ."I am using File.SaveDialog(prompt, filter);
but it doesn't open to the location by default that I want to open.
