Illustrator :: Losing Elements During PDF Conversion
Mar 1, 2013
We have had a few instances where we get a file (PDF) from a client and then take it into Adobe Illustrator to add bleed and make a few marking on it for the cutter and then when we re pdf the document, a logo or element drops off the file and then my staff do not pick it up and end up printing the file and it is costing me huge money in waste. We can Rasterize the image in Photoshop before we make changes but then it is not practical to make the changes we need as nothing is vector anymore. Can we automate the solution (If there is one) with Switch?
I am trying to convert a drawing to PDF but I keep losing the hatch in the conversion. Is this normal? Can the hatch be converted to PDF with the rest of the drawing?
I'm using illustrator to add some bits to .DWG files from AutoCAD, and then exporting them as .SVG files WITH the artboard. However, when i open them, the artboard has changed it's X and Y from X:0 Y:0 to X:-0.5 Y:-512, the artboard is 512px by 512px.
Also I have noticed that when opening a .dwg file and scaling it on to an artboard, the Y co-ord jumps to -512, but the X stays at 0.Is there a way to constrain these X and Y values so that they are locked at 0?
I'm working on a design and I have CC. I need to share it with a coworker, but they only have CS6. Will we have any problems working on the design on both platforms?
I have somehow managed to create a monster size picture in MB's. ie my picture is 12x10 with several pictures and a backround etc....but it has somehow got to 871 MBs!!! How do I get that size down to a more manageable size in mbs without losing the quality??
I am currently using PE6 in an old XP PC and want to use the same PE6 software in my new Windows 7 PC. The sheer number of photos (>12K) make it nearly impossible to reorganize and retag everything from scratch!! If a newer PE version would avoid these problems, I would consider upgrading. I can't believe the Adobe hasn't been asked this question before, but I have been unable to locate any relevant information on their website.
If CC is a TRIAL program, why would you allow it to blow away layers and groupings when the doc is reopened in CS6? No I have to resinstall CC, open the doc, save it back down to CS6, and PRAY that the layers and groupings are intact. What a waste of my time.
Im trying to create a logo. I grouped a bottom layer of shapes to form one shape. I also group three letter together. When i put the group of letter on top of the group of shapes it looked great. Then i tried to group this bottom and top layer together and lost the top layer of letters...how can i stop this from happening?
I am editing .CR2 files using camera raw, and when I save the edited version as a .tiff, my changes are being applied to my original .CR2 as well. I am losing the original .CR2 files.
I am using PSE 12. When I delete photos the program is moving automatically to the bottom or top of my catalog rather than staying in place. So if I am deleting photos 1000 - 1005 it will reload at the bottom or top of my catalog. This is a huge annoyance given I have 12K photos. Other times it simply freezes and crashes.
I have simple line drawings in illustrator (outlines of clothes) that I wish to open in photoshop to add colour and effects to. When i have tried to copy and paste (as normal paste, smart object, pixels, path and shape layer) the quality is lost.
I have also tried to open or place the file in photoshop as a .psd, .ai , .pfd and still the quality is lost.I have saved with different resolution settings too, but it always loses quality when it is opened in photoshop.
Is there any way to have a clear line drawing like it is in illustrator in photoshop?
How can I back save illustrator files created in CC (CS7 version???) to CS6 without losing layers? when I open the files in CS6 it says "some info will be lost' Ha! all layers and separation is lost, so cannot separate parts whole file seems grouped and cannot be separated? When I go back to my (other) computer where I was foolish enough to upgrade to CC, way to save back as I can with InDesign and saving as a idml file.
I was trying to make a logo and for doing as I sketched it I thought Offset path will do. But unfortunately it didnt. By using this feature repeatedly the shape is losing its initial form. This is what I want (as concept) but as you can see the shapes don't have the same form as the original cloud:
I know is almost impossible to make this without any distortion, but I was wondering if there is any other methond with less shape deformation.
Is there anyway to convert 0/0/0/100 Black to PMS Black by replacing the cmyk swatch with the PMS swatch? I have a bunch of Illy packaging files that are using CMYK black that need to be changed to Pantone Black C and the only way it seems that I can do it is by selecting same fill and/or stroke. I tried using recolor artwork, but cant get that to work with cmyk black either.
The standard unit conversion calculator (from Google) says that the 668 pixel = 17.7 cm. But this values are varying in the Adobe Illustration, i.e., 668 pixel = 23.56 cm.
I compile all of my data in Arc and get my data referenced and looking good. Once all of the data I need is in place and ready to be exported, I export the map out to an AI file. This has worked fine and still does. I am new to AI and have great Arc Knowledge. Here's where my issue begins:
- Once I bring in the map to AI, the roads look horrible and nothing like they did in Arc. I exported it at the small scale (county) and the linework looks horrible. Roads that were straight in Arc are all zig-zagged and did not convert over smoothly. This would not be an issue if there were only a couple of them, However, I am dealing with thousands of unsmoothed roads. The smooth tool works, however, one line at a time and then it leaves loose connections. So this tool is not really an option for me.
- My next attempt at smoothing out the lines in the masses, was to select the area in question, then Object>Simplify>Smooth. This works on some, but did not produce the output I was looking for. It smoothed out all of the selected roads, but instead of keeping them all together and just smoothing out, It moved some of the longer roads and long story short, the roads became inaccurate and did not shown what was really on the earths surface.
- is the scale of exporting out of Arc. At the small Scale, the map is rough, nasty and needs some smoothing. However, when exporting on the larger scale, the roads turn out fine, just as they are displayed in Arc. I have been messing around with this idea since it produces the output I am looking for, however, scales and whatnot are all out of wack creating more than wanting distortion as well as gridding out my map to export, then reassembling it. I could do that, but this map will need to be accurate and an error in this that could mess up the coordinate system.
There are multiple ways to smooth out data in Arc, however, the data looks fine in arc, it only has conversion errors when brought into AI.
Experienced this error with linears and scales? I am going to locate a new road shapefile and see if it will come out better in AI, but if there is a workaround.I have tried other files that I have, and some are better than others, however, all have large areas that will need to be smoothed.
Just installed version 11 of PhotoShop Elements. In trying to convert the Version 10 Catalog to Version 11, the conversion fails. I have repaired and optimized the Catalog with Version 10, but still no luck with the conversion. A
I've tried to convert several files using "Process multiple files" in Photoshop Elements 10. Input files are CMYK psd files with one layer and transparent background. They should be resized and converted to PNG. It works excepting the transparency in the PNG files is missing - the background is white instead. The conversion works however if I open a single file, convert it to RGB after prompt and save it as PNG. The background is transparent as it should.
So why my pngs are not transparent when using batch conversion?
I want to batch convert some .psd images into jpegs in pse 10 or 11. I know you can batch convert for image resizing, but don"t see the ability to convert images from one format into another.
I have been using PSE8 successfully for several years. After using it all week, when I tried to open it today, I got a message that said something to the effect "cannot open because file is corrupt or cannot be updated and/or the catalog should be converted". Suspecting that after so many years I had too many files, I thought I needed to convert (not really knowing what that meant and no explanation was clear). After many attempts, it finally did that (converted) but now the only files that are included in the organizer are the files that were contained in my previous PSE version 6. Nothing beyond 2009 exists in this catalog. I made many albums from our travels in 2010, 2011, & 2012 that I spent hours creating and can't stomach the idea that they're lost.
how to, or even if it is possible, to find the old (new) catalog and switch it back. I'm thinking I could do a system restore but am not sure that's the most efficient way to fix this problem.
I am using an HP Pavillion desktop, 320 GB hard drive (92 GB free), Vista Home Premium X64
Any workaround for text along path conversion from freehand to illustrator? The problem is text along path in freehand which is slightly moved along path. The result after conversion to illustrator is an invissible (exept a red+ where the text should be)text. Sometimes you can't even correct the problemtext so you had to place hundreds/thousends of text (streetmaps) again after conversion.
Exporting the Freehand file as illustrator 7 gives a much better result for the text part. (the art works is in this case seperated into lines and fills)The message I get opening the illustrator file in CS3 is that legacy text should be updated, clicking the update button and text is looking way better and there is less text to replace.Opening the Feehand file in CS3 doesn't give me this method.
After Copy/Paste form PS cmyk object/picture into AI i noticed that it looses original colors making color conversion CMYK->RGB->CMYK (with AI defined cmyk profile).WHY?
Didn't find any preference in AI (or PS) about that.
