View 6 RepliesI've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

I am familiar with the "plastic" effect to get the 3-D looking raised areas, but I can not for the life of me even get my live trace to make a vector in similar colors here.
It has become quite a pain as I am looking to be able to do these designs on my own. btween the jpeg and the final "proof" jpeg how to make the vector to send off for production
I'd like to create a vector graphic with precise object size and placement so that when I import into PhotoPaint I get a precise conversion.
For example (use no outlines):
make a black square 10mm in diameter create 9 colored squares 2mm in diameter placed 1mm from the edge of the black square and 1 mm from each other copy all your squares paste into photopaint setting size to 10 pixels square and turning anti-alias off what you get is not what you drew in corel draw
Here's my example as a vector:
and as a bitmap:
So the squares are completely the wrong size - 1 pixel larger than they should be and in the wrong position!
Interestingly if you import the same vector as a bitmap 100 pixels square it looks better - however you'll notice that the colored squares are, in fact, 21 pixels square and not 20!
The conversion process seems to make every object larger by one pixel in each dimension - not useful. I should note that this effect happens in X5 as well.
i have many simple vector files, created in CS6 that are over 15MB. i had deleted all swatches, brushes and symbols. I jusc cant figure out why those files are so big..heres an example: and the .ai file weight is 17,1 MB. URL....

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot figure out how to separate a graphic from a a vector file I purchased on Shutter Stock which has a bunch of graphics in the file used for design. The file has layers, and I have tried to select just one of the layers to copy and paste into a new AI file, but it doesn't work. Nothing seems to be grouped together, and I have no idea how to tell if there is a compound path or not.
I need to separate all the images and then resize them as well. Then I want to export to a jpeg file so that I can use in photoshop and/or publisher.

He is insisting on it, because of the vector file. I have a design file that was completed in a layerd PSD. I want to know what, if any, quality is lost from converting from PSD to .AI vector file? Would it be better to have the Designers strach over from Scratch?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have some patterns that our customers can choose from to put sandblast film on their windows. Not sure about the english term for it, but this is what i mean:
We are looking for a flexible way to make the vector file from a predefined pattern.
Like the example below, when resizing the outer rectangle (= the window), the number of squares should be adjusted automatically. And the squares need to be centered in the window all the time.
I'm not such an expert in using patterns in illustrator, but i believe there is no way to define settings that control the pattern i believe? Like pattern brushes in illustrator, in which settings can be set like scale the pattern or scale the space inbetween, center the pattern,...
The square pattern below is just an example, see some other examples that i would like to easily control the thickness of lines, number of circles, space between stripes, horizontal and vertical scale of the pattern,...
I was working in Illustrator CS6 I had made a a bunch of vectors for a background and grouped them. I applied a blur to the group and was still editing the vectors within the group since then. After I saved and closed my file at the end of the day and opened it the next day my vector group is now solid. It seems like it is just a raster image? I can't edit it at all. How can I get it back? If I can't change it back I am going to have to start again!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'll omit the long background --- suffice it to say I did this once and need to do it again, but can't recall the toolchain / workflow I used.
I _think_ it was Macromedia FreeHand 8, and that I used a plug-in w/in that program, but I can't recall. Any way other than rendering the drawing as a half-toned bitmap and then tracing it? Or re-drawing the image on top of such a bitmap?
Below is a .jpg copy of the Vitruvian Man that I bought on istockphoto.com. I would like to get rid of the gold background and keep the black line work. I would like what was the gold background to be transparent. I would like to convert this .jpg to a vector file using Adobe Illustrator CS5. To do this I assume I somehow use the Live Trace feature but I'm not exactly sure how.
I would then like to be able to select the black linework and change it to red. Does this mean I need to somehow convert the drawing into a collection of indivdual paths and anchor points? When I've used Live Trace before, I had the tolerance set to about 45 and Simple Trace. This indeed got rid of the gold background but gave me no individual paths or points I could select and change the color of. The only thing I could select was the image as a whole, not individual points or paths. It was the entire image within a box. This occurred whether I used the black arrow tool (Selection tool ) or the white arrow tool (Direct selection tool). If no, then how could I change the black linework to red?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm writing an application in C++ that loads vector images from a source directory and convert them in bmp or other non vectorial format in the destination directory. I need to load CDR file also, but unfortunatly I can't find a documantation regarding the proprietary CDR file format.
Of course, these informations aren't published by Corel that maintain the secret of the format. But my question is: does Corel sell some SDK that provides some functions, callable directly from the source code written in c++, that permits the conversion of the file?
Whenever I open the batch conversion window a file always appears in the main file list window; I have to manually remove it (pressing clear) before using the browse button.
