I recently created a logo through illustrator for a sticker that is going to be made and they've asked for the vector file, so I'm not sure if the illustrator file is the vector file.

I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

The file has layers, and I have tried to select just one of the layers to copy and paste into a new AI file, but it doesn't work. I applied a blur to the group and was still editing the vectors within the group since then. After I saved and closed my file at the end of the day and opened it the next day my vector group is now solid. It seems like it is just a raster image? I can't edit it at all. How can I get it back? If I can't change it back I am going to have to start again!

View 2 Replies View RelatedBelow is a .jpg copy of the Vitruvian Man that I bought on istockphoto.com. I would like to get rid of the gold background and keep the black line work. I would like what was the gold background to be transparent. I would like to convert this .jpg to a vector file using Adobe Illustrator CS5. To do this I assume I somehow use the Live Trace feature but I'm not exactly sure how.
I would then like to be able to select the black linework and change it to red. Does this mean I need to somehow convert the drawing into a collection of indivdual paths and anchor points? When I've used Live Trace before, I had the tolerance set to about 45 and Simple Trace. This indeed got rid of the gold background but gave me no individual paths or points I could select and change the color of. The only thing I could select was the image as a whole, not individual points or paths. It was the entire image within a box. This occurred whether I used the black arrow tool (Selection tool ) or the white arrow tool (Direct selection tool). If no, then how could I change the black linework to red?
am having an Issue with CS6 when saving files. When saving a file using the 'Save' option (not 'Save As') the file is not staying at the size of the artboard as it should, it is however being aurtomatically cropped down to the actual artwork size. This is causing issues with the Process we work with as we need the file to stay at the artboard size.If I click 'Save As' and change the Adobe PDF Preset to 'Press Quality' then this works, however this means that every file we save(which is quite alot in a day) means we have to go through the 'Save As' option and manually change each save.why this has suddenly started to happen with our Illustrators and do you know how to fix this so that it stays at the Artboard size when 'Save' is used?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, I'm trying to create a repeat pattern of a Balloon illustration I've done in Adobe Illustrator. I've got the singular file (balloon.ai), which weighs in at around 700MB.
Now I'm trying to create the repeat of this pattern on a separate Artboard which will repeat these balloons, 30 balloons per repeat square to be precise.
What would be the best way to import these separate balloons into the repeat square once (as they're the same file) without affecting the weight of the file and performance of Illustrator?
So, in essence, is there a way to import that balloon.ai file and only have it use up 700MB on the page rather than 30x700MB by the time I've placed 30 balloons?
I can't rasterize the files as the printer needs the raw file.

I checked before purchasing that CorelDraw exported to AI and DXF. I have not been able to export the file to AI or DXF and have the file be in a vector form. THey all started out the same, but I edited them and then did a save as, but the file icon image didn't update. How can I fix this? I tried resaving the files and copying the files, but it didn't work.

The files will save, then throw this error when re-opening. The preview of the file in the Finder will disappear and the file becomes useless. We are on Macs running 10.6.8 and Illustrator CS6 (fully patched).
